2012 had more than 1000 on SFIV, it’s not the same, you can’t afford to put more games unless you cap the registrations (bad) or put 1~2 more days on the event (don’t know if they can afford that yet)
It isn’t that EVO can’t afford it, it can, it’s whether or not it’s overkill and if the public can afford it. Seeing as how we scream poverty, I doubt they’ll stretch it any farther.

Players choice was predictable but I thought they were going to do something like “only players who go to Evo get to vote.” But, the breast cancer drive was a good call. The picks are about what I expected them to be, and I’ll probably be donating to CvS2 and/or SC5 for 8th.

for the other titles, i know they have PS2s too not sure about PCs.
Last year’s EVO was screwed by the KOFXIII shirts and SFxT. If the numbers for KOFXIII went from 1000 to 300 (which is almost certainly going to happen) you’ll be able to put in 2 more games. Add in SFxT almost certainly getting a much smaller turnout and I don’t see why they will have too many problems dealing with the numbers.
Unless the turnout for SFxT cuts in half, you’ll still have to have more space and run more matches than last year since it’s 1v1 over 2v2. If 200 people came out last year and it’s down to 150, you’d actually need to run 25 more matches. And if anything the change to singles will up the turnout since getting a partner is no longer a prerequisite for actually entering. SFxT had the same stigma last year as it will this year. If anything, the numbers will go up.
KOF will go down to 500 minimum. All the way down to 300 is too harsh a drop.
But the main thing to see is that if I’m not mistaken, EVO this year is in a MUCH bigger space than it was last year. So the issue won’t be as pressed as before to begin with.
KOF and TTT2 are unlikely to get beyond 300-400 players, and that’s an extremely generous estimate. The numbers they have been getting in majors doesn’t suggest that they have a chance of getting 500 players. If things don’t improve about how the FGC treats SFxT I would be surprised to see it hit even 200. Back at NEC you have guys like Chris G and Ryry DQing themselves because they can’t be bothered to play the game. Maybe the patch will magically make everyone love the game, but if it doesn’t I don’t think even members of the SFxT defense force have the patience to stick around any longer. Add in the fact that P4A is likely to have less hype by the time of EVO2013 (espeically after BB:CP is out) and it’s not hard to see why having 8 games isn’t unreasonable.
Strekken will get a decent number at Evo. Why? Because you’ll have guys entering a low number tournament to get that pot. Guarantee you that last year Wong, Ortiz, and probably Infiltration didn’t really like the game, but entered because of low competition and easy money. If Strekken wasn’t at Evo2012 it wouldn’t have been at any tournaments past 2-3 months. Because dudes needed that Evo seeding and practice. Same thing will happen this year.

You guys really think SFxT is gonna draw low numbers? It’s a 1v1 format, it’s back for Evo, it’s gonna be a featured game at IPL and Capcom 30. The 2013 update looks great, Capcom is building hype for it, the base game is running 15 bucks used, the online is better than SF4 or Marvel, the online has great feature set compared to everything on the list…and its got 5 months to build steam and will likely start popping up at Road To Evo events because of it’s inclusion. The only thing going against it is a vocal, ignorant playerbase that clearly doesnt know anything about the game or even play it, which is becoming more apparent everytime you look at comments when news is posted about it. It’s a 50 character game with a cast that is relatively unexplored beyond simple tactics… I would not be surprised if SFxT winds up 3rd in entrants under this format. FGC needs to stop sleeping on this game…far too much unexplored potential. Awesome lineup for this EVO though, something for everyone, glad they went for a more inclusive roster of games. EVO presence for all of them is important for lifespan. :tup:
