it’s especially awesome because he basically rejected one childhood dream for another

Then again, when you work at Disney World, you ruin ALL the magic.
Seriously who are these people who think BB won’t be back and why? I really wanna know why people think it can’t make it to next year outside of wah it’s not GG.
Recently in ARK IV:
AE: 73 Entrants
MvC3: 57 Entrants
Super Smash Brothers: Melee - 34 Entrants
3SO - 29 Entrants
MK9 - 25 Entrants
Super Smash Brothers: Brawl - 18 Entrants
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II - 18 Entrants
Heck it seems that Soul Calibur IV has a bigger scene presently than Blazblue. Devastation has put a $500 pot for SC4 and only $300 for BB:CS, the same as HDR.
Why are you going by a tournament in Arkansas?
Lowest turn out. Not to mention it was only there because they gave they gave their spot to Melty Blood last year.
It seems like FG’s are developing the same problem that is present in the MMA community. Too many different leagues that have different rules, regulations and sizes (kind of paralleling different games) but only one very identifiable tournament aka UFC (in gaming case EVO sponsered games).
I don’t know how the following idea would be received but maybe have multiple EVO’s through out the year? That way instead of cramming 9 games into one tournament (which just seems like a logistical nightmare) you could have 5 games in Summer EVO and 4 games in Winter EVO?
In theory, splitting among publishers would be optimal because then they would have huge incentives to invest in their communities if they know a tourney spotlighting their games would not be competing with other tournaments. Unfortunately, I don’t think enough publishers have enough stand-alone games to make entire EVO’s out of them. However, if you could find a balance that allowed for enough games to shine properly, then you could get more games without overloading any single aspect of the system. Maybe figure out which games have the smallest overlap in terms of players so there isn’t too much cross competition in one EVO and have similar games be split between the multiple EVO’s throughout the year?
Arcana is pretty much dead already in Chicago and There was a tourney with like 50 and 50 for mvc3 and sff4 this weekend and arcana got 3. Skull girls and persona have a better shot.
lol well thats Chicago, no offense but thats not exactly indicative to the rest of the country I know on the west coast we still get decent numbers but obviously nothing close to MvC and SF though thats not really a fair comparison. I dont see skullgirls making it but I wouldnt be surprised and I would actually love to see Persona make it but thats really unlikely given that its scheduled to release right around Evo.
Unless Evo wants to become a week long event what we’ll see are great games that keep getting bumped from the line up and new games with big sponsors featured. CvS2, MvC2, Third Strike, Guilty Gear… … list goes on… all bumped. Some of these games had 100-200 people still signing up each year… but now they are replaced with games that wont stick around for 1/10 as long as those games did and still could.
It’s terrible but what can really be done? Unless you want an NBA style league of teams that all have to travel pretty much every day you can’t do it. Nor can you pull off the Evo to please everyone… …unfortunately when they choose it seems to be new games not old… no matter what any branch of the community has to say about it. Why? Capcom makes a LOT more when Evo features gameplay of MvC3/SSF4 than Third Strike/MvC2. If you look at cost of product + full DLC Evo footage getting a dude hype to buy products pays $80+/$100+ vs $14.99/$14.99. Or look at Blazeblue($60.00 retail) vs Guilty Gear(can’t buy it except old ports.)
A four day Evo is a bad idea.
I been to conventions that tried 4 day programing scheduled befor, it isn’t pretty.
On the 3rd day most people are exhausted as it is any ways, by the 4th you have people both staff, and players dropping like flies.
If SFxT is run at evo, I will have literally zero respect for the FGC.
Edit: If I had to call a big 5, it would be SF4, Marvel 3. Then it gets harder, but Skullgirls deserves one year. KoFXIII should be played, and I highly doubt we will NOT see SC5 from Namco based sponsorships and it in general being a new game that actually looks pretty good.
That probably leaves MK and BlazBlue to fight for a spot. I’d rather see MK.
Evo doesn’t need more time, it needs more quality control.
Art, he’s right. I know you two have had your past bickering, but this time he’s actually being 100% true. America is not top level in KoF 13, maybe by Evo time frame it will be, but at the moment you have people that play a shit ton and still drop basic Shen hd combos.
Also many of the people who are asking for 4 days, have never probably judged or ran a tourney before. For me, judging is not that draining, but it gets to you. Judging one day, and the rest of the tourney to yourself is draining, even with the non working days. Imagine the Evo staff running it, another day would be horribly tiring. I don’t know why people are complaining about potential game choices, Evo will do what they want and feel like is the best thing for the community, just as they have stated in the past.
p.s. Stuart stop talking like you know whats actually going on
people who want change vs people against change
kof13 is gdlk and i really hope it’s at evo
at our weekly get together this week i just asked everyone if they wanted to do a kof tourney and got over 20 entrants, and it was by far the most hype shit of the night. even people who had their reservations of the game immediately went out and bought it over the next few days. this game is serious and thanks to this age we live in this game has a good chance of blooming. at least one can hope - its converted a few players in the scene here, so why not anywhere else?
shoutouts to rogueyoshi and everybody else predicting the kof breakout months ago
i was initially skeptical of the idea that the sf4 craze would help non-capcom games, but mk9 and kof are making a pretty convincing argument for it
and miz, even if the US still sucks at kof we’ll have the elive crew, koreans, mexicans, probably south americans, etc. at the very least, top 8 should look good.
also i will just say that the rumors do not look good for sfxt…nothing set in stone yet tho
EDIT: probably nobody gives a shit but my ideal 5-game evo lineup would be AE2012/UMvC3/SC5/KOF13/MK9. skullgirls is #6 tho i could see myself enjoying it more than MK, wait and see obv!
I hope KOFXIII’s at EVO too. That being said, if it came down to MK9 and Blazblue for EVO, I’d have to say that I’d imagine BB would get a spot over MK. I mean, Extend will have come out in February so there’d be a bit of hype over that too, and I think BB has a much better potential for longevity than MK9 does. That being said, I’d actually kinda not see Skullgirls get main stage. I never got what the big deal about it was, and it kinda seems ‘meh’. Personally, I think we’re looking at this for EVO 2012 so far:
Super Street Fighter IV AE: 2012 (or whatever it’s gonna be called)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Soul Calibur V
Blazblue Continuum Shift: Extend
King of Fighters XIII
Honestly it should be
Sf4
Umvc3
Sf x tek ( you can turn off gems now )
Kof13 ( if more then cali plays honestly, all this hype and no one has been doing shit but us west coasters )
Sc5
Sorry no bb anime games had there shot at evo and it never goes well, guiltygear needs a comeback to make up for this. Mk9 would only get in if they bought the spot again, tekken gets replaced by soul calibar naturally.
Lets be real guys capcom games will take over, the only capcom game that never did well of recent was tvc and thats because it was on wii and was a turn off to players. Theres needs to be like a smaller evo for the lesser games with a line up like
Tvc
Bb
Tek
Any other non capcom games, what evo needs and wont have ever again is game diversity ( and I dont mean brawl or mariokart ) a line up id love but we wont get ( because capcom has a monopoly almost on evo )
Sf4
Kof
Sc
Mvc3
And a n open spot to the communitys fight for.

I really don’t see how you can say Blazblue didn’t go over well at EVO this year considering it increased from where it was to get on the stage and was more successful than MK and (depending on who you ask as reports I’ve heard have varied) either as, or almost as successful as Tekken 6 was. Plus, with Extend coming out in February, it would seem pretty likely. The way you casually brush it aside makes it seem as if you’re speaking from your personal opinion on the game and not that of a practical or realistic prediction.
Even with extend coming out there are other games that may take its spot, sc5 and sfxtek are forsure staple so the last spot is up in the air.
