Evo 2012 needs to change

…that’s a little extreme. It’s just a video game.

he probably wants to quit his job anyway lol

This is exactly what Mr.KOF did for this years EVO, he quit his job at Disneyland 1 month before because they didn’t want to give him the days off.

The problem with Kof13 is that while it’s getting more exposure than the usual kof game in the US, the majority of the players playing it in the is verrry low in comparison to the level of play in other games in the US. Unless the US seriously levels up in this game, I think putting Kof13 at Evo will be a joke.

No the problem with kof is people like you mouthing off about how free America is and then never showing up to anything. Part of the problem. Shoutouts to the answer, dreamcancel southtown arcade and ipw as well as Cali for keeping the game alive.

J Wong did put on his Twitter that he enjoyed playing KOF13 in PAX and that it’s the KOF game they should have released years ago…

Wtf is up with all this new talk about KOF? Is it even new? I thought it was just a port or localization or something, isn’t the game already out? I never pay attention to the roman numerals. It looks the same. What’s happening?

I see where you are coming from cause A LOT of people feel the same way about Tekken (Korea>the world) and BB where top players like HeartNaNa see EVO more of a North America National tournament than a World Tournament which is fine since we know that his actually lived and played BB in Japan so I think his entitle to share his opinion. However that didn’t stop those games from being at EVO and I don’t think that’s what the EVO organizers are looking for, I think it’s more about the community showing support and wanting those games at EVO and not by the skill level in the community. Also I don’t think there’s a single individual on this forums or in the community (including myself) that would be able to determine the whether the community is skillfull enough to have a tourney at EVO.

I hear you use to play KOF, maybe you could be the one to come out and show us how the game should be played.

EDIT: @Dragoomba: Well the game was released for the arcades last year but it is being localized, rebalanced and adding new characters. The hype about it is that is turning out to be the best KOF ever release (yes even better than 02 and 98) one or two people may disagree but the community in general sees it that way.

I want to show up…

Also my comment about US being free wasn’t trying to say that they would get crushed by Mexico or Japan if they decided to come to Evo…it’s that the level of play of the US (with exception of verrrry few people) would make Evo look like a joke. The level is very low for the game to be featured on Evo as anything but a side tourney. I have a hard time watching any US tournament for any kof game and it needs to improve greatly before the game is considered. In fact, I have a feeling Stuart’s misinformation about the game was from him watching US tourneys of players mashing it out, and thinking that this is what kof is about.

Basically, even if Japan is better than the US in SF4, the US skill level is still very high…but in kof it is VERY low. Game needs more exposure, with people taking the time to study it and play it on a regular basis.

Thats true though man, game just needs more exposure. Its hard trying to get good at a game when not many people are playing it in your area, in the US for that matter. I remember when i started playing KOF and wanted to get better play it locally and asked around. I remember Dark Geese telling me from what he knows there was only Rouge and some well else in my area (Philly) playing, just two people. Others say go up to NYC (which i sadly never have the money to do so) and play there.

Hopefully by next year EVO there will be more people playing XIII and there skill will be above average. I personally wish i had the expenses to go out and get more people into it. I know NEC should be having it there, the first tournament to be holding the Console version of XIII on the east coast that i know of. And if i prayerfully have the money im damn sure gonna go there rep . Try to get people into it, as well as leveling up my game. I personally think there’s just not enough people playng it in the USA for us to get better as a whole. And of course the more people we get playing it, the more exposure it will get. More of the US needs to pick it up and show some love for KOF.

*Sorry Bout the Sloppy ass Paragraph, in a rush. *

Maybe because the game is only in a couple of American arcades that just got it recently(?)?

At least wait until the port comes out before going on about people playing it at a low level.

KOF XIII, which has been out in the Arcades for a year now, is finally getting released to consoles this October. It is not a port of the arcade version, however, because of things like balances changes, etc.

I just want Arcana Heart to get a shot :frowning:

If a bunch of top players take to KOF, and may have said they like it, it’s going to take them a while to catch up, but they will.
It probably won’t be by Evo 2012 though. The question is will they stick with it or drop it after they get crushed initially? I think that’s going to depend on how well they like UMVC3/Apology Edition. That said, it’s a tournament, and upsets can happen.

Of course there will be low-level matches- you saw some low-level matches on Steam Friday at this year’s EVO. Doesn’t mean that the whole tournament is going to be that way. When you have an open tournament, you’re going to get all sorts entering.

If KOF is a game at Evo, I guarantee at least some top Mexicans/Japanese would show. This is what would make it interesting- we’ve never really had a real Mexico vs Japan of any sort (and no, online play doesn’t count).

2011 being a Crap year for Capcom is the reason KOF is getting a chance.

As for Arcana, it deserves a shot, but won’t get it.

mortal kombat made it for the first time but i heard they had to pay evo. maybe snk can pay evo to have the kof13 be included next year.

Comeon, we’ve been going through this dance for half a decade. That is a flat out lie, and you know it.
ps:. quality of players doesnt matter. Building a scene does. Skilled playes = with building a scene. No scene = no skilled players.

If KOF actually makes it to evo and the quality of play is not to our liking…well that’s youre fault for not showing up to “show ppl how to really play KOF”
(btw, its widely known that theres no kof scene in america besides a few places, and only a few arcades even have the game. why even bother stating the obvious?)

I’m just curious as to why having less then 300 people is an inherent problem with a community.

Not instigating or anything, I’d actually like to know if you’ve always felt this way or if this come into play in the past three years or so.

And don’t get rid of the BYOC, please.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, BB didn’t really feel like “omg no top JP players, so it’s not worth putting at evo”, but it’s like “oh, no top JP players, so it’s hard to consider it a world tournament.” I think BB finals were pretty hype, because there was still plenty of skill there. Even with KOF, even if no top JP players show up, the finals might still be hype. However, similar to BB, the problem is just interest. A lot of US BB players came to Evo, and supported the community by showing up and playing, but despite that, the numbers were still far less than SSFIV or MvC3. I personally think 200 people for BB is pretty good, but I guess if it’s less than 300 it’s not worth having at evo. KoF has never really had high attendance at tournaments compared to the other games, so obviously it’s almost sure NOT to get in based off that alone. It’d be cool if it got the chance, but it just doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen. Same for Arcana Heart 3, too, sadly. I’d love to see it at Evo, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen.

Most KOF/SNK tournaments at EVO can barely pull a standard 8 man. (And usually the exact same people entering each SNK/KOF tourney. Give or take 1 or 2 people)

So obviously we should have it at EVO.

And besides. Do we REALLY want Dark Geese back? Especially if no Mexican players make top 8 so he can bitch about EVO is fixed and all that jazz? Knowing him he’d try to get KOF finals to start early so none of the Japanese Players could come.

You know it to be true.
