I agree that KOF, just like any other non-sponsored game, should have to earn its way in. I just think of all the games coming out next year, it has the best chance to do so.
3SO isn’t going to draw much new blood
Skullgirls may have a rough start with a low count roster, though I have faith Reverge will get it done eventually.
SC5 is throwing lots of stuff at the wall- that’s a risky strategy
Final Showdown won’t be out in time
There’s also the idea of having 2 separate events. Evo and what we used to jokingly call “Animevo”.
One could be centered around the big 3 (SF4,UMVC3,SFxT) and the other one, smaller in scale, could cover the rest of the genre.
(Older Capcom,Namco,SNK,Arcsys,MB,SG,MK)
they were able to handle 6 games before. maybe next year there will be another round of voting of which game gets to be included like melty before in 2010. but i think to make sure the authenticity of the votes, maybe they could have only pre-registered entrants (and perhaps the registered in qualifiers) to vote, and you automatically become a player in the game you voted AND there must be a minimum number of votes to win. we’ll actually see which has the most serious active community. sounds too much of a stretch (like yeah what would you do if the game you voted lost?) yes but i think this way, the game you like actually has the chance if you really support it and not just because you probably want to watch a top8 finals or because you just want a new game in evo and end up with little turnout. at the same time, the organizers are sure to have a turnout for the game selected avoiding an incident for example, they choose VF5FS or KOFXIII because of vocal community but no one actually joins.
we really have alot of FGs to choose from … AH, KOF, VF, Skullgirls, TVC, 3SO, HDR, SC and before the year ends, there are more coming out. so there’s no way they can ever please everybody. but they can give chance to the serious competitive fighter.
i honestly would love to see KOF make it to the game roster for evo next year. but it seems like the kof community better step it up on people to come and compete if they wanna be in the evo roster. i like what atlus did at evo and i like how you guys are showing up at more conventions. good shit the answer and atlus for this shit i hope KOF xiii would get more love in the US like how it is at other countrys.
i love my capcom and snk games. why cant you guys get along lol so much hate and i thought this thread was suppose to help out evo and bring the fighting game community closer since fighting games is getting fat. But 2012 is gonna be a tough one since alot of new fighting games are coming out soon. I dont know if evo can host every game as i wish they could but that would be to much work.
This is why Evo is considering 4 days. Evo is kinda like the WSOP of fighting game tournaments, and I think that vibe should be encouraged.
A 4 day EVO has no reason to not have KOF, I just hope they make the decision by Feb- I can only hit one tourney next year, and I don’t want to just play Capcom games.
Make it a day longer so people have time to see REAL games! 3s/CVS2/ST/MVC2 !
I am trying not to be a bitter old player who “can’t get with the times” and maybe AE2012 and UMVC3 might not suck but seriously. Its unfair how they have to pick only 5 games now a days considering how many options/games we have now.
Well I didn’t mean it like age I just meant that I don’t like any of the new games. xP
And I just don’t mean those games but SC5/Skullgirls/KOF13/etc all the games that have a release or still have a scene should still be able to be a tournament. Thats just my opinion though.
I’m sure it’s too soon to ask, but will there be a possibility to have more than five games at EVO2k12?
AE2012 and UMvC3 are a given. Then you have SFxT with a lot of hype, MK9 (screw the haters) surprisingly brought tons of hype (even the disclaimer made people shit bricks ffs) and I’m definitely sure KOFXIII and SG fans want in.
I’m honestly not too sure when BBCSE drops for consoles, so it might be dropped again and I heard TTT2 isn’t coming to consoles until SFxT is out, so SCV is a easy replacement, which makes that a total of **seven games **ready for EVO2k12.
The MK series has always been a guaranteed million seller and there has always been a cult following for it competitively, so it’s never an unreasonable risk to bet on it when it’s being made by a new studio. For that reason it’s not unreasonable to bet on SC5 in EVO2012, but do you think KOF XIII, Skullgirls and the numerous anime games will hit 1 million sold?
