Evo 2012 needs to change

Shout outs to niggas being biased as fuck towards The King of Fighters, because “that’s how CapSRK rolls.”

KOFXIII will be at EVO2k12 and Telemundo will be there, whether you like it or not.

Me too, this is VERY true.

I do not get the hate for the snk in here. I mean as far as playstyle kof is the funnest 2d fighter out there

The again stuart is a dumbass with bad opinions, so is a lot of the internet

It just seems weird to me with TTT2 coming out. I think I’m over thinking it. Stop thinking.

I’d love to see Skullgirls make it as part of Evo’s lineup.

Think I give a fuck what Japan thinks?

not really. but okay.

and i meant kof xiii. i wrote that post at like 5 in the morning. so sorry for a fucking typo. idiot.

Actually, aside from the gaming components of EVO, I’d like to see more booths and convention like type of showcases. Turn it into half Expo, half Tournament series!

Yeah. Lets make it like every other vanilla carbon copy gaming convention out there.

whoopie.

If Telemundo’s there, I want the Lucha announcers. I also want hair matches in top 8.

Here’s the big question- what if UMVC3 bombs? I think it has real potential to bomb commercially, and possibly critically also.

If EVO can make some $$$ off it, sure why not. Don’t go hipster on us man

EVO aside, one thing I would like to see are ‘national tourneys’.
SBO is not the end all event in Japan(though still important), aside from whatever each arcade does, there are usually big national tourneys for each game.
The way PDP had the MK9 tournament attracted a great deal of attention on it’s own.
If a game can attract players on it’s own merit, even if it’s not formally at EVO, it will not just get ignored.
Perhaps wishful thinking, since we still have the matter of ‘who organizes that event’ of course. But I do not think EVO alone can change enough to encompass EVERYTHING.

Just a few thoughts I wanna throw out there in regards to the potential lineup (more on the actual thread topic in a mo), so don’t mind me…

[]Personally, methinks AE2012 and UMvC3 are shoe-ins for next year. Straight up replacements for their counterparts from this year…
[
]SFxT is Capcom’s big fighting game release next year, so I can’t really see how it won’t be in the main lineup unless they decide to do an invitational tournament instead (or something weird like that) on the side…
[]Unless I’ve missed something, TTT2 doesn’t have a solid console release date next year. If I recall, they said TTT2 will be released on console after SFxT (Spring 2012?) and before TxSF, so unless something changes in the meantime, a TTT2 console release would be expected around or after Summer 2012, which would be a bit too close to EVO for comfort. Which would mean we may not have a new Tekken game for EVO 2012…
[
]…and the last time a Tekken game was not included in the lineup of EVO, Namco were represented with SCIV, no? Which means that SCV, a fighting game coming out in Spring 2012 (barring any delays), would be a logical choice as Namco’s offering for EVO 2012. MK9 set a precedence for a fighting game released in the Springtime making it onto the roster…
[*]Speaking of which, if EVO keeps to the five-game format like this year, then either MK9 or BBCS2 may be shut-out of this one, regardless of whether they get meaningful updates (MK9 with additional DLC and regular patches, BBCS2 with Extend) or not. With KOFXIII entering the fray, even if another slot opened up for EVO 2012 it would only result in quite a struggle, probably between these three contenders, and no matter who wins, a large amount of people will be disappointed…

Which puts me neatly back on topic. In regards to the actual issue of smaller niche titles not being represented - let’s face it, the people running EVO can only handle so much unless they change the event’s structure. Some neat suggestions have been made to try and accomodate for more games at EVO (like turning it into a four day event, for example), but realistically you know things are tough when entries from the MK and KOF series and an ArcSystemWorks title aren’t guaranteed to be in there. I can’t seriously expect the Arcana Hearts, the Melty Bloods, the Skull Girls of this world to make it as a main game…

A suggestion I would like to make for EVO itself would be to allow the streaming of the finals (Top 8s, Top 4s, heck even just the Grand Finals) for larger side-tournaments. Not only would there be added incentive for some players attending just for those side tournaments and added exposure for those games by being streamed to potentially thousands of viewers, but the people running EVO would also be able to gauge their popularity to see if they perhaps missed a trick with their chosen lineup (unlikely, I know, but the possibility is there). Any feedback is good feedback for them to be able to improve the event in the future.

I think someone else also suggested that looking into other majors for launching your scenes (luckily for you guys, you have plenty of those throughout the year) and even setting up a season of events for specific games, perhaps culminating in a grand finals event of sorts.

Just remember that EVO isn’t the only place that fighting games have to expose their scene (though some exposure would be nice) and there are other options that can and should be considered, methinks…

O-O~

wait…why are people saying KOF looks bad?

have they played it? its fun as fuck.

but i do agree that SRK will hate it cause they are capcom jobbers and theyll play worse games more simply because its made by DAT CAPCOM so the likelihood of it getting in is low. but didnt mr wizard want to have it this year but didnt because it wasnt on consoles yet? or was that just a rumor

I love people who post and have no clue how things work. The EVO lineup is usually decided in the November-December time frame. This is way before we have any sponsors on board for Evo. No company can buy their way into Evo lineup.

Also another thing that simply makes me shake my head is people saying “Our Top 8 was the best out of all of them”. Who cares if the tournament can’t even break 300 people? Its a WORLD tournament. If you cant get 300 players to show up and play, that community has more problems than you know what to do with.

Skull Girls and KOF XIII making it in would make my day. I know they definitely have the potential too seeing as there’s hype surrounding them and gasp they’re actually good games.

Won’t matter, even if it bombs commercially the SRK people will still play it like they play MvC3 and it’s guaranteed for a big turnout.

KoF XIII shouldn’t be considered based on just viewer hype. I mean, it’ll be a bummer if it’s boring to watch, but if the players show interest in coming out to compete, then it should be considered for EVO 2012.

I personally can’t wait to see KoF XIII played at regional tournaments. I’m excited to see who comes out and how many come out to compete.

I agree 100 percent with this. Super didn’t sell nearly as much as vanilla, and mvc3 didn’t even sell that well in the first place. There’s no way it’s going to sell more.

Skullgirls isn’t out yet ya know. Don’t doubt the ability of players to destroy a game.and the limitations of Xbox/PS3 live to limit the teams ability to patch it.
