The game is tournament viable if people come and play it in tourneys. How much your SRKheads love/hate that game is irrelevant. And MK9 has a much higher chance of drawing a successful tourney turnout than Skullgirls, solely base on the fact that more people play it.
MK9 is basically fucking dead. All EVO did was give MK9 a healthy bump at first before things happened that drove people away from the game :(. If you don’t think a game being on EVO can get a game a scene you’re retarded. Keeping the scene on the other hand is another thing.
Wait soo soul calibur wont be at evo? O.O
You blasted me a while back for calling BB a dead game… MK9 drew over 89 people in NEC and 64 in SCR. BB drew 45 people in NEC and 40 in SCR. Are you trying to tell me MK9 is dead while BB isn’t despite more people playing MK9?
Isnt Evo 2012 in July? If thats the case I find it wierd to have SFxT on the line-up. A new franchise being released 2 months prior to Evo, with a mechanic that has the community in split on whether or not it should be the tournament standard? Not to mention, how scrubby the gameplay will be. Imo I think SFxT should be in 2013’s lineup if Evo is indeed coming in July. Imo it should be
- AE 2012
2.Umvc 3
3.Kof 13 - Soul Calibur V
5.Skullgirls/BB (Depending on how early in the year skullgirls is coming out and of course how it does on release)
It’s not a new franchise, it’s a game with both the SF and Tekken name on it and that more or less guarantees high sales numbers. What the “tournament standard” should be can be determined after the game is out, but I wouldn’t bet on SFxT not drawing good numbers in tourneys.
Maybe I used the wrong word. What I mean to say is that its a new series. Meaning it the first game of this particular series. I already know the game is guaranteed high sales numbers , I’m not arguing against that, my problem is that in that short timespan between evo and the release of SFxT, theres not enough time for even pros to figure out the game to a good extent. And depending on if the game’s mechanics change drastically from the TGS build, the game right now is atrocious to watch when players are at a week or 2 of playing it. I say it should stay out of 2012’s lineup to be honest and be brought in 2013, where the crossover is more established( ie: the level of players).
4 months are more than enough to figure a game out till it can be played in tourneys. No player are at a week or 2 of playing SFxT, the game isn’t out yet and what you are seeing is day -X technology. We’ll see how good that game is to watch when it is out but either way to me putting SFxT in EVO is a low risk choice. It doesn’t need to be popular enough to take over SF4.
Well i feel like 2 months isn’t enough time but Meh lets just see wat wizard announces on tuesday
I get and understand what you’re saying, but I half suspect that they’ll find a way to sneak it in anyway. I mean, it’s not impossible depending on things that they’d do 6 and just have the 6th do top 4 on Day 3, but considering how much went into EVO 2011, having them add a new game to top that is ridiculous and even though you can never say never, it’s most likely NOT going to happen. My only concern though is that a lot of the same people might play the 3 Capcom games, and already a bunch of SF/Marvel players play KOF. So, it might increase the numbers for those games, but the number of people playing in general might go down a bit for it.
On the flip side, SC5 demos actually HURT the SC4 registration. We had 80 people registered for SC4… then people played SC5 and they were like “I’m not going back to SC4” and backed out of the tournament.

Oh well, that’s a shame than, doubt it will get in. Seems a bit premature to announce the lineup this far ahead of time… should just say AE2012 and UMVC3 with 3 or 4 spots up for grabs. Announce Skullgirls than and no one ends up playing it would look a bit lol… KOF could be dead by March, SC5 might flop and if you leave out SFxTK to show “f that casual crap” and than it ends up being a massive hit @ tourneys… well yeah egg on dat face yo.
I doubt Capcom or Namco will miss their targets… as MVC3 shows Capcom could care less.
Which had more entrants than T6 & BBCS combined and had a massive amount of stream viewers?
I don’t blame them.

Why are you guys arguing about Mortal Kombat entries when it was on the Evo lineup last year before it was even released?
fixed
Final Round is also supposed to be the EVO of Mk tournaments as well, so your point doesnt make much sense. I know at least 57 members of TYM are confirmed for FR, and many others are flying in from Canada, Mexico, and maybe the UK. 57 does not sound like a lot, but that is only for one MK website. The number of confirmed will skyrocket as the date gets closer.
I think EVO should have at least 6 games. If so this is how I would personally want it to go:
SFAE2012
UMvC3
SCV
MK
KOF
Skullgirls
Sadly though I think SFxT is going to replace one of those games. Oh well.
Pretty sure Mk had over 300 maybe 400 entrants, and BlazBlue had a significantly lower amount. Cant really see the logic in saying BB did better than MK.
I just said from what I’d heard, so it could’ve been wrong.
With that being said, I really can see it being:
SSFIV:AE 2012
UMVC3
KOFXIII
SCV
SFxT
BBCS:E
That’s if they do the 6 games thing. If they do 5, then I’d naturally assume one of those gets cut, and it’s obviously not going to be AE or Marvel. Ideally if they had to cut one of those and have 5, I’d rather it be SCV or SFxT, but I have to be realistic and think BB would get cut before both, and the only one it would have a shot of beating out would be KOFXIII, and I doubt that. As I’ve said before, I personally feel Skullgirls is way too niche to be in EVO, even niche within the audience it’s aimed for. Again though, that’s just my personal opinion and for all I know it could wind up having 250+ entrants in every single tournament that it’s a part of for the next 4 years.
Sorry, I just cannot see it being BlazBlue. Dont get me wrong, MK is on pretty thin ice, but even it is getting more entrants than BlazBlue. Mr Wizard already said if you cant get 350+ entrants you have a problem. I know MK could get that, as now it is even more important to our community than before EVO 11. BlazBlue I am kind of doubting at this point, although maybe their community is the same as ours.
But yeah I think there is no possible way Skullgirls is making it. Sure MK9 was not released after the EVO 11 announcement, but its MK. It had built up a fanbase and tournament following, MK sells millions of copies each game(even MK vs DC). Skullgrils is a brand new game, from a brand new developer. It would be a huge risk to make it a main event, because by that time either Skullgirls could be going strong, or more likely, will have died out and have a lower number of entrants.
No matter what though, it is the responsibility of the gaming communities of the games that dont make it to set up side tournaments. There is always a way.
A fellow TYm dropping the truth and keeping it real. I agree with you 90% my friend. I kind of disagree with the skullgirls part though. That game has me shaking my boots because it’s doing A LOT of things right and is getting a lot of support. So, while it may be a risk. It’s a good risk fro them to take because you have a created a game for the fighting game player, and a game that feeds the noobs the fighting game player knowledge. So in conclusion, If you’re a BB, KOF, and MK player/fan and you want your game to be at EVO. You should be afraid…be very afraid of Skullgirls. If you are not…Well, Painwheel and Peacock want to talk to you…in private.
I dunno. I can see fellow BB players being worried (and probably for good reason) and even MK because of the stuff before, but KOFXIII has really taken off since it got released and has been getting nothing but praise for how viable, hype, and good the game is. Like, a whole bunch of communities have even been supporting it too. It’s something that seems to just be getting more popular the longer it’s been out.
