EVO 2012 Lineup Speculation

I won’t say that I am a fan of MK, but many people seem to be convinced that it wouldn’t make it to EVO2012. I personally do believe that MK will at least make one more appearance in EVO, but I can understand why people expect MK to die. Right now the game IS dying and losing popularity in the competitive scene, and I am not sure if it will survive SFxT. But then again I can see room for MK to at least be next year’s Blazblue.

+1 on this list but throw in like a Skullgirls official side tourney or exhibition of some sort.

Had MK9 finals not been hype it might not have had a chance, but the finals were super hype so I belive it has a good chance for next year.

Can’t say the same about T6…

BB finals were great, but I can’t help but feel the game isn’t really growing or being accepted widely. Like it still has that “a casual watered-down GG with worse character design” reputation since the first game. But I dunno, that’s just my feeling. I personally think it’s a cool game though, Arakune ftw.

I hope to see EU bring it in SC5, to defend the SC4 EVO win.

I really don’t want 3S returning, no matter how online it is now.

I think these are the most likely games at Evo 2k12:
AE (v.2012)
UMVC3
SFxTK
SCV

Wildcards:
MK9
KOF13
Skullgirls

A few points I wanted to make, but didn’t want make a post that was 1000 words like I was about to:

-UMVC3 has the potential to be more popular than AEv2k12.

-T6 I predict won’t be there next year because of boring top 8 this year, SFxTK & SCV coming out next year (I know they’re not really substitutes for a Tekken game, just using them as a factor and nothing else), TTT2 will be coming out this year in arcades, and who will really care about T6 even if TTT2 won’t make it to the states in a year or more?

-However, I fully expect TTT2 to to be at Evo whenever it comes out, and I expect 1000 people to enter. I don’t care for T6, but I’m pretty hyped for TTT2.

-Will Evo reverse the trend of MK9 dying out? I have my doubts. Only way it survives is if more MK9 players (who mostly online warriors if not completely casual), come out in mass to support their game during majors, ranbats etc… IMO, this game gets shit on/trolled/hated more than any other game by the serious/competitive fighting game community, even more than Smash to my estimation, I don’t think it is all deserved

-Since I don’t see T6 coming back, I see BBCS2 coming back next year even less

-KOF13: Doesn’t really have a big scene in US. It has a bad rep of being unbalanced (although, cries of unbalanced/OP characters are always exaggerated IMO, this case is no different). It comes down to 1 thing IMO: online. If the online is BB status say, It’ll do well and likely be at Evo. If the online is ass, sorry SNK/KOF fans. Here’s hoping for good netcode.

-I don’t see 3S coming back personally. Couple things: US ain’t that great at this game, and mostly newcomers will cry or be bored of same top characters usually winning things.

-About AH3: time to move on trollface

I can agree with most of what you said, especially these 4 games being a shoe-in
AE (v.2012)
UMVC3
SFxTK
SCV

However, I think it’s unfair to say that MK9 gets hated on as much as Smash. A lot of MK9 players are also capcom players. And MK9 is a LOT more balanced than Smash Brawl, and more exciting to watch too. The crowd loved MK9 at evo, and CEO, ECT had 120-160 MK9 entrants.

But yeah, whether or not MK9 makes it to Evo 2012 depends if the players will keep supporting it at Majors. If Summer Jam, Seasons Beatings and Winter Brawl gets 100+ MK9 entrants, I think it might be back at Evo. But the game seems to be super popular at East Coast Majors and less so at west coast majors.

yeah, that’s probably a stretch on my part. But I’ve noticed a lot of hate for it, and I feel hate for any game to get old fast. Probably just trolls being trolls though

SSF4:AE
UMvC3
TTT2 if out, otherwise T6
SFxT

MK9 if it still has heat going into next year (UMK9?) othwise we probably will see KoF. Just because KoF has never been there before doesn’t mean it can’t appear now.

I actually think that those expecting Soul Calibur V to be a shoe-in are in for a surprise. Just read this:

The fact that the release date of the game is uncertain just turn what that is already not as likely as people think into something that’s near impossible.

UMvC3
AE
MK9

I think are all givens. MK9 is great and a ton of fun to watch; its really energized the scene and i think it has legs.

I think skullgirls will do well but not well enough to be a main game at evo. After initial sales it’ll go more cult then have a big scene, more akin to bb or gg.

My guess for the additional lineup is cross tekken and either tag or t6. If the release date for tag doesnt line up i’d rather see SC5 then tekken though.

I am definitely biased, but I have to strongly disagree with this opinion. BB has had the opportunity to be in the Evo line-up for 3 years. The first year didn’t work out because it was released too late. The second didn’t work out because the game was in version hell and the community itself offered up its position. And now that it finally got its official spot the tournament was hype as fuck. I don’t think that equates to “little chance in hell”.

However, there really are just too many games competing for those last few spots, so I don’t see any game being a shoe-in. I still hope it’s BB because I was planning to go to Evo next year :frowning:

SSFIV AE
UMVC3
SFxTekken

Those 3 are obvious games that will be there next year. I believe that MK9 will also be back. If Tekken Tag 2 comes out in time for Evo 2k12, I hope to god it replaces Tekken 6.

Mr. Wiz may also make it more than 5 games, so they might include Soul Calibur 5 and KOFXIII if that game is good… I really doubt SFIII 3S OE because everyone was hella bored at it during the demo before MVC3 finals and Mr. Wiz stated earlier this year that they are trying to make Evo a disc style game tournament only but maybe make an exception for Skullgirls.

Personally i’d like to see EVO going back to 6 games.

SSF4 AE 2012
UMVC3
MK9
SFxTekken
Soul Calibur 5
KOF13

Replace Soul Calibur with Tekken Tag 2 if it’s out by then, and replace MK9 with Skullgirls if no one plays it anymore.

Just to help the KOF XIII case, we hosted an unofficial KOF XIII side tourney at EVO this year and we had 54 (paid) entries. We use the arcade version which is only found in like 4 states and only had 2 setups. On Sunday (the last day of EVO) we helped Atlus host an FREE KOF XIII console side tourney and we had to cap it at 32 due to limited amount of time, all 32 spots where taken in 17 minutes.

stay free

Don’t forget the UFC guys might push for a spot next year.

Sup DAVID (t hawk bird noise beewwwwww)

Heres my guess

AE
UMvC3
TTT2
MK
SFxT

I think they will have 6 or 7 games. If they do it will be between
3rd Strike
SkullGirls
BlazBlue
SC5
Tetris Attack (jk :P)

I love SNK and kof but I doubt that the new kof will be that popular, would love it if it was tho and would also like to see it at evo

Also, anyone without Sf x T on their list… for shame. The games not only going to be really fuckin popular, its actually pretty fun

If you have played SF x T you would know its nothing like SF4 it just looks like it.

what I’d like to see

MAIN ROOM
SF4:AE:2012
UMvC3
SFxT
MK9
KOF13
BB (whatever version is most current by then)

SIDE ROOM
TEKKEN TT2
SC5
UFC
ST
SF3OE
SKULLGIRLS

Maybe have it last four days and add one-three more games this time around? The fighting game scene is certainly booming. Also, more chairs would be nice.

AE2012, UMVC3, MK9, and Skullgirls

everything else is good too. ;p

TTT2 (hype level, allot of tag players that left after tekken 5/6 came out are coming back)
MK9 (It had the numbers, the game has new dlc characters that can now participate and NRS still keeps care of it)

I really don´t care for other games as long as these will be there.
