Uhh… yeah I would think I know that Tekken 6 was the only game on Sunday to run longer than it was supposed to. The fact that Tekken needs 3/5 to reduce a chance of being randomed out as well as a losers bracket which does the SAME THING says a lot about Tekken.
This is either a strawman or you’re missing the point. If SF games had no meter management, they’d be no doubt 3/5 as well, but since the game has a mechanic that carries over past rounds, you can’t just increase the round count to make it better. Losers bracket serves a double purpose: it not only givers people a second chance, it ensures that the person who’s second best won’t get last because they played the best guy first round. While this is irrelevant in Japan due to lack of prizes, its obviously hugely important at a large money major. Its not that Tekken is a random game (hint: its not random in the slightest outside of a few rage upsets), its just lowering the luck aspect even further. Perhaps you should look at other reasons why Tekken ran over time: all the games were close, the finals were reset into something that wasn’t 3-0 (unlike MvC3 where Viscant ran through PR.Rog in the second set, and SF4 where the finals wasn’t even rest at all), and so on, so forth.
Or you can just continue to miss point the point and argue about something you don’t understand, that’s fine too. You could also just get a drink, or play some friendlies with friends while Tekken is on if you really despise it so much.
MK9 was surprisingly hype. I honestly didn’t give it a fair chance when it came out. Not my first choices, but I’m thinking it will be:
SF4
UMvC3
Soul Calibur 5? eh
SF x T
MK9
Tekken Tag II~
Tekken 6 is dead. It’s been on life support for months now. There are few top players in the US right now really focusing on the game. Tekken 6 at Evo barely pulled in 100 people. It’s a great game, but definitely won’t be returning. It will more than likely be replace with TTT2 if it’s out. If TTT2 isn’t at Evo, there simply won’t be a slot for Tekken. Soul Calibur 5 will most definitely be there. Skullgirls is a long shot, but it can definitely be there, and will replace BBCS2, since that game isn’t making a lot of buzz these days. So I think it will be
SSFIV AE:Rebalance
UMVC3
Soul Calibur 5
SF x T
gauranteed:
TTT2
Skullgirls
If they are released or show enough community support
I read a post from a regular at Tekken Zaibatsu who said that Tekken 6 had 300+ Entrants at Evo 2011?
I look at the lineup this way: It’s going to be a given that we’ll see UMVC3 and SF4, because Marvel and Street Fighter always have a presence. SF x Tekken if the game actually sticks to its release date would be a likely addition as well.
Beyond that it gets tricky. If TTT2 is out on console with enough time to spare I could see that being in the lineup; same story for SC5 if that’s out and actually gets a competitive following. I’d also love to see KOFXIII there, but the game has to prove it has the scene to make it in. Same with Skullgirls, and honestly I think KOF has a better shot than that one does.
I could see MK or BlazBlue coming back if their respective scenes keep on rolling strong, but I’m not making any predictions that they’d be counted in with all the new shit coming out.
Don’t forget the new post EVO balance patch coming out. There’s a good chance MK will be back.
I agree, the tekken stream was boring as shit to watch.
Making the case for 3rd Strike:
1.This isn’t 3rd Strike, it’s 3rd Strike Online
It’s been said before that the Daigo video is what put 3S on the map, and that’s just it. 3S owes a lot of it’s notoriety to an online video on Youtube, and now 3S has the opportunity to take advantage of internet connectivity that modern gaming thrives on. The game will have much more exposure now compared to when it was released a decade ago. Maybe it won’t start off big like MvC3 or SF4 and their online communities, but I believe it could start off like BB and definitely grow from there. After all, BB gets it’s due in tourneys in most places.
2.GGPO
Yeah, I get it. Blah blah blah GGPO, blah blah blah GGPO, and so on. It’s been mentioned to death and certainly no one wants to read another full blown explanation. To put it simply, if GGPO really is as good as advertised, the line that divides online play and local play becomes blurred. We’re talking about a game where it’s possible that a good majority of online warriors translates into viable tourney players.
3.Street Fighter IV
Back in the day, I think most people would agree that Alpha 3 and MvC2 were much more flashier games and outshined 3S for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, back in high school the 2nd Impact and then 3rd Strike machines put in plenty of work, but the crowds surrounding the Alpha 3 and Marvel 2 machines were always much bigger. And hey, I’ll admit it was a little intimidating walking up to a SFIII machine to play against a guy that knew his shit. But for Alpha 3 and Marvel 2 it was different, even if a guy came along and destroyed you with V-Ism combos or if you just plain got obliterated in Marvel 2, both fighters were simple and fun to play. (well, initially for Marvel 2 anyways. MvC2 just got ridiculous to the point where I was better off throwing quarters away and saving my self the humiliation)
Point is, all three were different games (no duh) and SF III was the middle child that didn’t get enough attention.
But now, we have SF4, and this is exactly what 3S needed. SF4 are the training wheels, it’s the game that almost literally bridges the gap between the Alpha series and the SFIII series. The SFIII elements are right in there in SF4, now 3S just takes it one step further. I think it might’ve been a quote from Ono (don’t remember exactly), but I’m sure most have heard that he said something along the lines of,“once you master SF4, move on to 3S.” I can only imagine what a player like Wolfkrone can do if he decides to pick up 3S.
I’d say that, in my opinion, SSF4:AE 2012 and MK9 are shoe-ins, as well as SFxTK assuming it makes its release deadline. After that, I’d give a thought to KoF13, SC5, and BBCS2.
Despite not having played it, I’ve heard some rumblings that TTT2 is basically just T6 with tags and other ultimately superficial additions/changes, and if you didn’t like T6 before, or hated T6 post-Evo2011, you’re probably going to hate TTT2. Third Strike Online isn’t getting in, because even if there’s some MONSTROUS influx of new talent and demand for it, it’s still Third Strike. I think the Exhibition hurt it’s viability a bit, but only because the room was full of people who had been forcefed DAIGO JUSTIN TOKIDO etc. for the last few years, and no one really remembers names like Amir or Sanchez. Even trying to get Victoly, or flying out the Pizzabeast would have helped I think.
Honestly, I’d like Skullgirls, but I feel that, at this point, the art style and choice of character are too niche. It feels like (and has been described to me as) Marvel vs. Capcom: Moe Edition. It’d be like in 2009 when Melty Blood got in: yeah there will be hype, but not enough people will pick up the game on hype alone.
Get blown up by anyone and everyone who has ever played Third Strike significantly in the last decade. It’s not rebalanced. There are no nerfs or buffs. 3SOE is the same as Third Strike in 2007, or 2004, or 2002. It’s the same. Exact. Game.
SFxTK
UMVC3
KOF13
Simply because these were sponsors/Displayed
Strong Possibilities:
MK9/UMK9
3sOE
SF4AER (I dunno)
EDIT:
I forgot about the TTT2 machines.
my final list:
SFxTK
UMVC3
KOF13
TTT2
MK9/UMK9 (It had the numbers and brought the hype)
That’s if evo sticks with 5 games.
-Current SF4
-UMVC3
-SFxT
-TTT2
- 3sOE
- SC5 or KOF13
I reaaallllly doubt Skullgirls will be made by then tbh, and 3s would be really interesting since it will show people who actually practice the game unlike what the exhibition showed.
lol @ KOF being in an EVO line up.
Riiiigggghhhhtttt.
Yea, 100% of the people in this thread forgot Big Bang Beat Revolve.
Question is, why bother making that “one step further” if you don’t have fun playing or watching 3S? 3S is ancient history, has appeal only to a few hardcore fans and I would rather see underrated games like CvS2 or Darkstalkers 3 getting a second coming than 3S.
I’m certain that UMVC 3, SFxT, TTT2, and KoF will be in the line up. BB most likely will be apart of the main lineup as well. Also I know it’s wishful thinking, but I really want to see Arcana Heart 3 get main stage action. It was apart of the main line up for ReveLAtions and CEO. Again, wishful thinking.
If they can’t be played on the PS3…forget about it.
That was last year.
Wait, what makes some of you guys “certain” that KOF13 will be in the lineup? Not that it’s outside the realm of possibility but it sounds like a long shot to me.
why do people find KOF a longshot but yet two sf4 engine games (AE and SFxT) are definites?
if both AE and xT get in thats going to be repetitive as fuck
