EVO 2012 lineup AKA what will be the biggest games a year from now?

People are down on MK9 because certain people go out of their way to try and play it down. The game has issues, but so do the others. Don’t try to tell me that UMvC3 or the 389483th SF4 rebalance will “fix” those games. In light of everything, MK is the only game that doesn’t reward the losing player in some arbitrary way.

Tom Brady is a narcissist buffoon who can’t win majors anymore, so naturally its everyone else’s fault and not his own.

it seems to me that the mk9 community has a problem with people (tom brady being the worst example) being massive whiners. the “problems” that i hear people complaining endlessly about are almost universally no big deal and they’re making the game look bad by constantly harping on about them. there’s some weird sf4-inferiority-complex shit going on where they think the game has to be absolutely perfect for anyone to give it a second look. skisonic told them this on tom brady’s justin.tv show and all of TYM made out like he was an idiot.

I’m just stating my honest opinion. I’m not “against” the game.
I don’t even fucking play the game yet I still helped supporting it.
I made a Subs tutorial vid, and uploaded S1lent&Tom Brady episodes (with permission) to give them more exposure.
I also don’t hate specific MK community members unlike you.
Also is Aris trying to play MK down? He says he loves the game and he’s vocal about it’s flaws BECAUSE he cares!

CvS2 high rollers wouldnt be a bad idea

People aren’t just going in on MK because they want it to fail, it’s a great first attempt but it has some really bad flaws that just can’t be fixed without a new game.

LOL@calling KOF unpopular. 12 was ass yes, but these characters are way more well known than BlazBlue. And with support from more local ranbats, other majors, etc like southtown arcade is currently doing, i can see KOF13 getting up there. the fanbase is passionate (i know not as much here on CapcomRK) and its a really fucking good game. SF4 was garbage, MvC3 is ass, but KOF13 was able to make me give up MvC2 thats how good it is. When this drops it will def be at some majors, its up to us KOF fans to go out and support it (i know i will damn sure be going to ECT if KOF is there). we need to support this great game! the fact that its proper 2d sprites (and tear-inducingly beautiful ones at that) makes me want to buy 2 copies.

if sfxt AND ae get spots thatll be dumb ridiculous IMO

Its one thing to be vocal about flaws(which is what Aris does), and another thing to blather about how the game will die and is total crap all that shit. That stuff enters people’s heads and influences them because most FGC members are zombies who follow trends. “Oh man, MK is that the game with the situational bugs and glitches? That game sucks!” goes to play Marvel with situational bugs and glitches

i read a post a month or so ago along the likes of “people wont play non-capcom games for the slightest reason but will continue to play capcom games despite the many things they dont like about them”

i wasnt aware of that particular problem , i thought that you were talking about normal trades

lmao

“lol random factor” “lol wolverine” “lol phoenix” "lol happy birthday wins a whole match with one guess"
I don’t think insults about a game have such a big influence as you might think.

I agree with this

Insults don’t but Tom Brady does.

I’m totally flabbergasted that people even consider the possibility of AE 2012 not being a main game at next year’s EVO. Like, I can’t even express how absolutely jaw-droppingly crazy that would be. From a spectator’s standpoint, it is very straightforward and already has a lot of exposure. From the community’s standpoint as a whole, the game is hugely represented worldwide, and with no arcade release slated for SFxT at the moment (correct me if I’m wrong), it will almost certainly continue to serve as our greatest asset in terms of attracting the Japanese community and worldwide attention. Finally, from a historian’s standpoint, it’s fucking main-line modern Street Fighter, of course it’s going to be in. It would take something of literal calculated insanity to stop AE 2012 from being on the lineup. Maybe Ono will actually make the game even less balanced than it was before somehow… but even *then. *

Anyway, we can’t discount the possibility that EVO will expand in some unforeseen ways next year. This would be really nice and would allow for potentially big games like Skullgirls, SC5, KOF13, and a theoretical Blazblue sequel remain in the spotlight. Everything but the “big three Capcom games” is pretty situational, but I’m most hopeful for Skullgirls.

what was the evo attendance?

Seems like Mr. Wizard was pushing KOF XIII for this year anyways. Stack on good netcode, KOFXIII could easily be an EVO mainstage game for next year.

At EVO this year, I went around getting the general insight by non-KOF players playing KOF and I asked what exactly did they enjoy about the game. The appeal other than subjectional aesthetics was the feel of the game. Normals felt good, walkspeeds felt good, running felt good. Attacks and movements felt as they should. There wasn’t a sense of anxiety while playing the game; unlike Street Fighter IV where most normals, walkspeeds, and dash speeds felt sluggish and silly random things happen all the time (from their description and perspective) that induces an overhanging sense of discomfort when playing the Street Fighter IV series. Within the Fighting Game Community, it’s not as if KOF is unknown. So at least reeling in players from other communities should be relatively easy especially when the resources to learn the game are completed, it should be relatively easy for most people to pick up.

Other than interest from those “outside of KOF”, the game balance has been heading towards the correct direction. The main two complaints of K’ and Raiden being too good for simple reasons have been toned down to “fair” levels but they didn’t get hit too hard by the nerf hammer to be warranted low-tier or no longer fun to play. The weaker characters were buffed in appropriate manners. The generally “annoying/trolling” aspects that were present in older KOF games were toned down (such as Kula Ray Spin safety or Kyo qcf+D,D frametrap pressure) as well as new “annoying” things that have been introduced in this iteration (Super Drop Kicks.) KOF XIII will be a good product, and the development will continue down this path as there is community input reaching SNKP/Atlus via Japanese and Socal players. GGPO was used for KOFXIII according to the Atlus representatives and the producer at the panel, but they said that it didn’t run perfectly smooth and they’re tweaking the code to optimize it for KOF XIII. Most specifically they stated that the HD Combos and what not didn’t bode well with plain GGPO. Could I confirm that this is really the case or not? No, I cannot. I could just relay that Atlus and SNKP did officially say that GGPO was used, incorporated, and tested and they’re they’re not going to be using plain GGPO.

So let’s say that Mr.Wizard and company are still pushing hard for KOF XIII, KOF XIII console version looking to be an even better product to rival or outdo KOF02um as a solid fighting game, huge promise of KOF XIII having good netcode, and an already established recognition by those in the general fighting game community, King of Fighters XIII seems to have an incredibly high chance of being at EVO 2012 next year.

The only factors that I see that games like Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom have over King of Fighters is brand recognition by the general consumer/public. As in, those that aren’t in the fighting game community nor have been keeping up with the news and information. The few that do recognize King of Fighters would most probably those that casually played Capcom vs. SNK 2. Do I think this is enough to not warrant KOF XIII a spot at EVO next year? No. If anything, KOF XIII could use this chance to expand its brand recognition in the West and gain more respect. Will it become more recognized than Street Fighter or Tekken, I wouldn’t say so. But, this game has enough to generate a solid community and gain the sort of solidity that King of Fighters 98 and King of Fighters 2002 have to be 10 year old games that still have some vibrancy within their international communities.

It helps that players such as Juicebox Abel are willing to pick up the game. Even Wolfkrone has shown much interest in King of Fighters 2002 UM and I willing to bet he’ll be interested in King of Fighters XIII. I believe Combofiend said in one of the Wake-up SRK podcasts that he would be playing KOF if there was competition at all. So having interest by those with some respect within other communities is good publicity for the game.

The biggest factor so far that could mess things up is the Online function. Personally, I have good faith in Atlus and SNKP from what I have seen and have been told in my past weekend at EVO. This game will be at EVO 2012 main stage.

You’re forgetting Marvel is a Capcom game with Ryu in it.

VF5FS

I’m a dreamer

Also I should note, KOF XIII’s retail price upon launch is $49.99 in the US. Pre-ordering includes a 4 disc soundtrack that spans from 94 to the present. As in, music from the Orochi saga, NESTS saga, and Ash saga will all be included, all for about 50 USD. Atlus knows how to sell a game with swag. It’ll be lesser of a burden for those to commit to buying KOF XIII. Other than digital releases close by, KOF XIII also has a good price advantage to lure more people into buying the game.

i dont think KOF13 having bad netcode will keep it from being a mainstage game

i do think that KOF13 having a small/nonexistant scene at majors will, though

Personally, I plan on coming out to Norcal Regionals and Socal Regionals to promote the game. I’ll also try to make it out to as many of the South Town Arcade ranbats in San Francisco as I could. I can picture good attendance by itself in California; but, I feel that attendance in other majors might hinge on good netplay as players would be more comfortable in entering if they had more practice. I think Texas and the Atlanta area might be able to get something together offline and maybe Next Level in New York, but I’d say that most people will only have online play to really practice and gain experience against a broader spectrum of players. Even me for the longest time, the only way that I got good/decent at KOF was living in west coast and getting good connections with Asian and Hispanic players on GGPO for 98.

In other words, the direct result of having bad netcode won’t necessarily be KOF prevented from having mainstage status. The direct result of small/nonexistent attendance at majors will prevent mainstage status. But, bad netcode does have a large influence on whether or not attendance will be good at most of the majors that will happen throughout the year.
