I guess i can say fuck it if BBBR isn’t even gaining any support. I actually thought that the bad taste in peoples mouths of 1st impression and MKV would be forgotten.
Didn’t the first MK9 tournament have a shitload of cash on the line?
I think it can still be there at evo just as side tournaments giving smaller prizes like Madcat shirts and what not. Bring more players into the venue cause even though they are different games they are all still fighters
Bring the SSBM, SSBB, Arcana Heart, Melty, 3SO players as well
Wait maybe that too may games
Oh, I guess I misunderstood your post then. I thought you were lumping it with all of the big killers with a gazillion players.
I could definitely see a side tourney happening though. Any game could have a side tourney actually, even IaMP.
I don’t think AE is going to be completely irrvelevant by this time next year. Maybe it does if SFxT blows everyone away. Arguably, most EVO lineups have 4-5 defined slots and there is always one game that is either:
a) flavor of the year
b) really really new
c) pushed by a company
d) try something wacky to show variety
So, let’s say we try to go 6 games. You lose two automatically with UMvC3 and SFxT. Personally, I would like if the lineup was (assuming console releases happen within a reasonable time-frame):
- SFxT
- UMvC3
- BBCS
- TTT2
- KOF13 (SCV)
- Skullgirls
The variety and how new these games are, should be a breath of fresh air and encourage more unique competitors and different types of people and players. But, we know that this isn’t a perfect world and the lineup may be more CAPCOM dominated. (SF4AE, SFxT, UMvC3, BBCS, TTT2, SCV). The only reason BBCS makes it, is simply because it is the go to “anime fighter” and less aethestically unpleasing to the ignorant. It is also it the closest thing we have to Guilty Gear.
Now, if TTT2 isn’t ready for console, T6 is a possibility. I don’t know if Tekken wants to do something as unhype as that. Now, if that happens and Tekken is out of the lineup for a year, I think it is guaranteed that SCV gets a slot, as Namco would not want to be unrepresented. So, if that spot opens up, another obscure game can perhaps fit in (KOFXIII, Skullgirls) I still think SCV gets in either way to add another 3D game and how its going to be relatively new. EVO always has taken 1-time potshots at new games (VF, DOA, TvC) and I don’t think this time will be any different.
I might have a little more to say later as I’m posting from work.
As far as Tekken is concerned, I’d actually think they’d rather play TTT HD than T6 if TTT2 is not out on time.
That would be completely hype, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s not really considered to be a big game that had its time like 3S.
I think the following games are guaranteed:
-SFxT
-SSFIV
-UMVC3
-SCV
-TTT2 (if it’s out on console, if not I’m not sure if Tekken 6 would be there again)
And let’s not write off XIII’s popularity so quickly now, it’s not even out yet it’s been picking up in popularity rather quickly. If you throw around a generalisation that the game is unpopular, it spreads and has a negative effect.
I’m also posting from work
SF4 i believe will be either the 2nd or main game for next evo for 2 reasons
1: 2012 Balance
2: Daigo’s Revenge - Daigo defines what a street fighter player is and the way he went out will make for some nice drama be prepared for another Daigo video where he calls out America, Fuudo and Poongko
UMVC3 has to be there cause MVC is Americas game
SFxT seems like the hype game for next year
Tekken - isn’t tekken another standard game to have just like street fighter? so it should be there
BBCS(3?), KOF13, SCV and Skullgirls have to fight for that last spot if its 5 games like this year
i dunno which is the most popular of the 4
I hope at least they increase it to 6 games
Jeez T6 is a solid title, just too bad how it turns out with the players. Pools were entertaining but then it gets to the Top 8 point where everything is mostly same-y.
Still the game did pull in a 200+ entries so it returning wouldn’t suprise me.
The second or the third MK9 tournament had a big amount of cash yea, it was like 21.000$ or something. PDP tournament and Justin won it.
But the very first MK9 torunament was PowerUp I think.
But the hype dropped afterwards.
Stream 1: SFxT, UMvC3, SSFIV: AE
Stream 2: KOF13, Skullgirls, Blazblue, Tekken 6, Soul Calibur 5, MK9,
That’s my opinion anyway. Capcom games will remain the ‘main’ games of the tournament. I do feel there is a chance that KOF13 might be one of the main games in the tournament though.
Seeing the hype that was in the room when it was the finals at EVO I think there was still alot of interest in the game. Will the interest be there next year? Doubt it. With so many new games coming out I think the players will all move on to something else. Mortal kombat drew in both the Tekken and street fighter players but the tekken players will be playing SCV or TTT2 by that point and all the street fighter players will be playing SFxT.
My personal list for the lineup:
SSF4:AEv12
SFxT
UMvC3
SCV/TTT2 (If TTT2 is out by that point SCV will get the boot as there will be more interest in TTT2)
Player’s vote (games to choose from will be the newest blazblue, KOFXIII, Skullgirls, MK9 and Third Strike, with Skullgirls probably winning)
Evo 12 should be
Main events
AE rebalanced
Umvc3
Sfxtk
Sc5
Other
Mk9
SF3O
Skull girls
I think we all know what the main entrys are going to be.
SSF4AE2012
UMVC3
SFXT
The rest will depend on the community and timing.
BB3 (If its ready)
KOFXIII (I really hope so)
Tekken 6 (old but Namco will most likely push for it).
Soul Calibur V (If Namco gets it out in time)
MK9 (I doubt it)
Arcana Heart 3 (Nope)
Skull Girls (Nope)
SF3 (Nope)
Kinda depends on how many spots are open. If it’s only 5 games again I think one of Blazblue, Tekken, or MK will get bumped off for SF X Tekken. I’d prefer there to be a spot added though. SSF4 AE 2012 edition will be the biggest game almost assuredly.
If a new Blazblue update doesn’t make it to consoles but is in arcades like was the case last year I think attention will definitely wane and it’d be the obvious game to miss. Would love for KoF XIII or Skullgirls to make it, but it’s hard to say either game has a chance to beat out Tekken or MK for entrants, which in the end should be the deciding factor.
Will certainly have a better idea later this year when we get to see what kind of online KoF XIII has, and whether scenes develop at local tournies as a result. Skullgirls success is still an uncertain thing, but for the love of all that is holy I hope it is the best selling XBLA/PSN game of the year. Either way it’s still too premature.
its not random, its stance dependant, and i actually hope that mk survives the test of time, its the 1st mk that i really feel as a solid game in years
imo skullgirls has a chance of getting a spot on evo, its a new hd game made by a member of the community, i also think that the BBCS update would come before evo, i think that asw its aware that if they want the suport of the community on usa they need to release it before evo happens, pretty much like they did with the bbcs2 update (and tbh, i feel that bbcs is a given)
now, i really have hope that kof13 would be a succesful game and it will have a spot on evo, the same goes for scv if they release it before evo happens, and im not gonna be surprised if the game takes the spot of tekken since i dont see ttt2 being released before evo
im not sure about ssf4 and sfxt, while both games looks similar on some aspects the core of the games are very different, i think that there is a good chance that sfxt can take the spot over ssf4, but i wouldnt be surprised if many people wouldnt like this
I’m not talking about the stance stuff.
I’m talking about something totally different, which Tom Brady and other people talked about and I don’t know if you have been following them.
Yeah the stance stuff isn’t to big a deal, but the dumb way trades work or don’t work is. Seriously no one has any idea how the fuck trading works outside of guessing, like seriously watch a Reptile mirror and have them do Dash at the same time, sometimes they just pass through each other, one wins, dor they both knock each other down. And the odd Phantom hitbox stuff is stupid.
i don’t know why so many people are down on mk9. it got over 500 entrants at evo. whether the community can sustain that momentum is another thing, but it’s far from a done deal.
tekken may not make it next year on the basis that everyone is more interested in TTT2, which will be in arcades but not on consoles by then. i believe this happened with DR before? on the other hand namco is a regular sponsor.
i don’t see kof13 gaining a large following (unfortunately) but who knows. also atlus was a sponsor this year, that counts in its favour.
nobody even plays blazblue and there may well be an update next year that isn’t on console yet. the community (such as it is) has demonstrated previously that this kills hype for the console version.
skullgirls probably has a chance based on grass roots hype + illuminati connections that it would never have were it a japan-developed game. i really want it to do well because it looks like the only really well-designed game in years.
I really hope skullgirls makes it. I feel like it has enough hype behind it to be a successful game, but whether the community supports it competitively will be another thing.
