TADA!!
yeah but i didnt consider the stream monsters… watching on monday would be a bit hard.
Evo this year Should be a 4 day event. With the least popular games starting on Thursday.
I wouldn’t to much look at keeping it a 4 day event because realistically all these games won’t survive until 2013 in the states. And by survive I mean having enough people to warrant wanting to make evo a 4 day event for years to come.
The biggest problem is alot of people work. But with a 2 month advance notice you should be able to schedule 3 days off, heck most people do anyway now just because going to work after getting back home Monday is pretty lame.
Thursday should be the day for games that usually have lower turnouts and aren’t as popular. That way those who love those games can show there support by coming out for them, and the rest who don’t really care for your Melty, kof’s and bbcs. Don’t feel like they wasted a day or are missing something if they can’t make Thursday.
If that means a higher venue I’m for it. Even though I’m someone who’s not interested in anime games, tekken, and kof really.
Basically I’m 100% for 4 day evo in 2012…it might be the 1st and the last time.
/me looks at calendar
You take an extra day off. That’s not pushing it for most folks.
I would have to take a whole week off for Evo since I work weekends.
Thursday could be side game pools
Friday main game pools
Saturday semis for all games
Sunday finals for all games
4 days is fine to me as long as there are a shit ton of games to watch.
Four days is good but like most say put the games with the least participants on thursday, though that might suck for the people who love those games, you can’t really push SF or MvC into thursday and think people will be happy with that, As for the small games like KoF and such that never get much hype though they’re great games, instead of not being around at all at least they’ll be there on thursday and maybe get more fans from the stream alone than they ever would without any representation.
I think 4 days is a good idea. All the years I have been going to EVO,I wished for a extra day to see the new games on display and now the panels. I didn’t have enough time in between doing several things to see all the nice things added to EVO this year. I say put in that 4th day for panels and new games to be shown. If someone can’t make that 4th day due to work, family.etc… then they can skip that one day with the extra events. It’s not like they are being forced attend all 4 days lol
From an attendee’s perspective, I prefer 3 days. Day 0 is pretty much the fourth day as it is.
4 days
Run small games on Thursday, bring old games back run them on Thursday(in my dreams!) lol
I’d guess that only half the folks who go to Evo, work M-F jobs. The rest are students, or work weekend-type jobs, or graveyards like myself.
I don’t think taking time off should be a major consideration.
Thurs-Sun is a better idea then Fri-Mon for the finals on stream.
My idea:
Thursday evening: pools for B games
Friday: pools for A games
Saturday: semis for all games B games morning A games later
Sunday: finals for all games B games morning A games later
It would suck a bit for folks who don’t play the main games, but those folks should be happy their game is at EVO period.
Folks who are Capcom fans only would still have a 3 day EVO effectively. I think this is best of both worlds.
A games would be I think SF4/UMVC3/SFvsTK and/or SC
B games would be the other games that only have 256 person or so entries, pools could be 8 people or 16 and semis could run fast (might even be able to do semi/finals all at once)
I’m with Val. I’ll be there the whole time no matter how long it is. EVO BABY!
THURSDAY-SUNDAY IS GREAT!. MR WHIZARD WILL HAVE GODLIKE SCHEDULE.
You mean non-capcom games like Blazblu, Tekken and Mortal Kombat?
I think he means everything.
Right down to Aquapazza and shit.
I think that there are too many viable games coming out before evo 2012 to not think about adding a possible fourth day in order to make space for said games to be ran.
Evo Week 2020
I thought 3 days was perfect. Come in Thursday ~ Leave monday.
Thats plenty of time to play casuals, look at all the panels etc, see what evo has to offer etc.
It really depends on how many titles they’re going to pick.
I mean the more games at EVO the better but if you think of costs for both EVO and attendees, people that can’t make 4 days, it makes sense to keep it 3 days.
Make it all 7 days of the week. Have 3 separate 3S tourneys on the 5th, 6th and 7th days.
The thing is:
if you make it 4 days and put the less popular games in the front slot, you’re making them even LESS popular by dooming them to the early position and inherently skippable. Probably would be best putting the pools of a major game up front or something equally as compelling.
I’m in favor of a 4 day EVO only b/c this past time I judged SFIV on Friday, went deep in Marvel on Saturday, and had practically NO time to play demos or go to panels, which is a part of the draw.
EVO needs the panels and industry talking heads, b/c it generates a lot of media attention for the event.
More media=more players=more special announcements/demos etc= better EVO.
But if no one goes to panels because they’re hidden in the back room while SFIV pools are taking place, that’s not gonna happen.
I say use the 4th day to “extend” the tournament, not add more tournaments. Maybe make a “media day” or something.
Also, i know EVO prides itself on being an absolutely “open” tournament… but have you guys thought about having qualifiers for “smaller” games provided you can bag some kind of sponsorship for their prizes? Qualify top placers on the road to EVO, hold a couple single elim last chance tourneys on the thursday, and you got an epic finals.
It’d be a great way to sneak in games that may normally miss out, like a Skullgirls or KOFXIII.
Give me the games that are gonna be played then maybe I can make a better decision.
If you put MVC2 then I don’t really care what other game are played(added).
