I’m 100% fine with 3-days. I didn’t have a job or anything this year, but its tough to request 4 days off, especially during the summer for a lot of jobs. Sure there are a lot of new fighters coming out, but just because it isn’t an official tournament by EVO, doesn’t mean there can’t be a tournament for it.
Theres no guarantee that a lot of these games will have a huge following either.
4 days, please. Three just isn’t enough time for a lot of side stuff people want to do, and an extra day for more main lineup games is great because the more the merrier.
As a player that was there… It was awesome. I loved it. Best event of my life. That said, I would much rather it be 4 days. Perhaps the first day can have a lot of cool exibition matches like WC vs EC 5 on 5 and stuff like that. That or make it to where days are a little shorter. Not that I minded being there from 8am till 1am…but it would be nice to perhaps get a little more sleep? Haha. Regardless 4 days!!!
4 days sounds great. I don’t typically work during the summer anymore, but even when I did, it usually wasn’t hard to ask for the time off or schedule vacation a couple of months ahead of time. Might be rough on the last minute people, but anyone who registered before the early bird cut off this year should easily be able to get those days off in the same time frame.
I would hope the extra day adds more games, but even if it just spreads the pools out for the same amount of games I’d like it, just because it would make it easier to attend any of the panels (if any) and give more hands on time with any pre-release builds that happen to be there.
Finals on Mondays would be a HORRIBLE idea…no one is gonna be able to watch it due to work…like valaris said, people generally get off of work after 5pm.
But anyways, i disagree with it being 4 days. I mean, it would be great and all that you can add more games and also not have everything rushed…also including a real 5v5 exhibition match (round robin) but not many people can take that many days off of work.
Working a Monday-Friday, I can probably get Friday and Monday off, but taking Thursday would be difficult.
I would hate to miss the tournament, if it started on a Thursday. Maybe if you had casuals, exhibition stuff, displays only open Thursday? But the actualy tournament was Friday/Saturday/Sunday, that might be a good comprimise.
I think 4 days would be cool. Maybe don’t start some pools until the evening on Thursday? But open the BYOC area and booths and all of that Thursday morning.
And if there are more than 5 games, maybe do some of the lower count finals on Saturday night (like ST and VF4 were back in the day)?
I got to Vegas this year on a Wednesday by the time the even was over it felt like I had been there forever. I’d say keep it to three days but maybe expand rooms used for minor or less popular games so you could possibly have 4 to 5 games games running at once (if that many are added) Then on Sunday cut the exhibitions and short films (have them in separate rooms maybe) and only do finals.
Evo is essentially a 5 day thing for me anyways… I save extra days off specifically for it so I’m there regardless.
EDIT: That being said… It ain’t cheap… And having an extra day may price some people out so they may just come on friday anyways… It’s a delicate balance. But either way I’m there.
4 days would be great, but like others have suggested, i think the first day should just be all the special exhibitions and whatnot, and the tournament should start on friday as usual. that way people have the option of going for only 3 days if their main aim is just to compete for the tournament.
I would make it four days. But no more than that. The problem here is that Evo is not supposed to be a convention for fighting games, but that’s what the public clearly wants. You give it four days and you can schedule more panels and events on the side. If you take it back to just a tournament scene without the convention aspect then there won’t be problems. But I for one want to and will be there all four days. And seeing on what people have been saying above ^ it seems like it will be hard to hold any of the tournament pools until the Friday of Evo anyway :/.
i would be all over 4 days. I judged all day fri and sat. 3 days would be even more fighting game awesomeness! Youve got my support as a judge for next year
