Evo 2012 and Beyond - 3 Days or 4 Days?

Skipped a lot of the other replies, but I’m going with the 4 days. Why?

Well IMO, I think that most people who go to EVO, also use that week as a mini vacation anyway, so for most of the attendees, they really don’t have work/school to worry about. Now I know that’s a very bold statement I made, but I’m just going by the trend I see for events during the summer season, where EVO takes place in. People are generally more free and out traveling during that time of year and generally have a more flexible schedule. I really don’t see many problems with having a 4 day EVO, especially if the schedule can be planned correctly to try and convince attendees to be there all 4 days. Maybe spread the more popular tournaments out and have interesting panels/events throughout the whole weekend and put the smaller less interesting stuff in between? 4 days would also ensure that everyone gets a chance to see and do everything they want, especially with the growing number of attendees each year, I can imagine it gets a little crowded and not everyone gets their time to meet people and play the people they want.

Just my two cents

4 day’s would be good if more games are in there and if most of the non major games are there people don’t really have to worry about only booking off 3 day’s as there only going to be there for the majors anyway. The extra day is more for the side tourney and pannels which will bring in good revenue for people who want to go to those tourneys along with seeing the game panels which in turn gives more revenue to SRK.

It’s a good idea and very promising for Evo, I definitely think it’s worth doing that, besides this is a once in a year thing, why not make it an epic event. e3 and other gaming conventions are sometimes almost a week yet no one complains about them I don’t see why fighting games can’t be the same. Were trying to GROW the FGC community not keep it supressed how do we expect it to get bigger and better if we keep it so limited.

Who knows, in time it may get to the point where there might be two different EVO’s for different FG’s in the future this COULD be the step in the right direction for this to happen if we give it that chance to do so.

I vote yes on 4 day’s and I hope other people can do the same.

4 days please

It would be pretty sick if the extra day we had was just so everyone can come early and get warmed up and make new friends in the BYOC area, getting some matches in, sharing technology, buying stuff at the booths ect. 4 days plz.

Pretty much what I wanted to get at! Now I haven’t been to an EVO yet (plan to go this coming one), but from what I hear and notice from the scheduling, it’s a very busy 3 days with major events/matches going on constantly. Having that extra day at the beginning of the weekend would really be nice for people to just chill, hang out, get to know people, check out the booths, and play some casuals without worrying about missing that one panel/match they want to see. Maybe have a few semi interesting panels on the casual day and host a few free side tournaments for either lesser known fighters or a few casual non fighting games with swag such as tshirts, basic fightsticks, games, etc. for prizes

I’m fine with 4 days. I just want some underground MvC2 Matches

I would personally prefer that EVO kept the 3 day schedule, at least for this year. Keep in mind that wednesday is the Fourth of July (For those unfamiliar with American culture, July 4th is our Independence Day holiday. It’s the one with all the fireworks.) Meaning that most sane people wouldnt fly out till Thursday at least. Flight inconsistencies and other holiday travel issues could lead to people missing the very tournaments they are traveling out for in the first place. If you do decide to make it a 4 day tourney, I would think it would be better to start the tournaments on Friday like normal, and then host the finals on monday. This would avoid the travel issues that having tournaments on Thursday would create. Sure, not having finals on Sunday would be annoying for the stream monsters, but isn’t the tournament supposed to support the players who are traveling out to compete before worrying about the stream monsters? Especially if it isn’t a pay-to-view stream that the tournament organizers can profit off of like SBO.

I actually have a question for the EVO staff. Have you considered running tournaments at night? Like, after midnight? I don’t know what the hotels policies are, but if they allow that, allot more tournaments could be crammed into the 3 day span. I’m sure the players would be able to deal with being up most of the night if it meant that their preferred fighter got into the lineup. They’d just have to be more responsible and schedule their free time better to accommodate for sleep, at least till they get eliminated. Tournaments are no joke, if someone is going to spend their time partying or doing other stupid stuff instead of sleeping, and ends up too tired to compete properly, or even to even show up for pools, its there own fault for getting eliminated. At least, that’s my opinion, and this is coming from someone who’s been DQ’d before.

Also, I’m sure the individual fighting game communities would be happy to step in and help organize stuff during a “night shift” if you guys (EVO staff) need sleep. For example, letting the Blazblue community handle the Blazblue tourney, the Soul Calibur community handling the Soul Calibur tourney, etc. You already take volunteer judges, right? It seems like taking volunteer organizers would just be a natural progression if a night shift ended up happening.

If i have any of my information wrong, I apologize. I’m just trying to be constructive since I want EVO to be the best tournament it can be, and I’m sure most of the people here feel the same way.

Also, crap. I clicked on the wrong option and voted 4 days instead of 3. It was a dumb mistake and I apologize. >_<

I like this idea a lot actually. The non Capcom fighter communities are pretty well organized and close knit from my experiences with the Florida Blazblue scene. I think if the EVO staff can agree on some of the more well known tournament organizers in different areas, they can nominate a few to run smaller tournaments when the main ones aren’t running. I’m sure it would give the EVO staff some more time to rest and allow smaller communities to come out and have fun with people who they can relate to better.

4 Days please, this year I was scrambling mad hard to try and play everyone I could find and play all the new shit, the fourth day for the less popular games would be a good idea.

Like others have said, more time to play casuals, meet people, drink, gamble, play game previews, enjoy the venue.

I like 4 Days.
