If this is true (and I am not saying it isnt) then why not just have ALL of the remaining games voted on by the community? Make a poll and have everyone get the option to choose what the remaining 4 games should be and the ones with the most votes should be in, plain and simple. If TvC really DOES have that strong of a community, then im sure it would make it in. If everyone actually WOULD prefer HDR over ST, then im sure that would make it in too, right? And with regards to BB, its obviously gotta be CS or its a waste of game slot and you might as well just put GG back in or any other game that can be voted on.
tl;dr
I cant go to evo this year anyway, but all im sayin is that if what you say in your original post is true, theres no reason to not have the community decide what THEY want!
Some controversy with this femme fatale tournament and the loss of MVC2.I believe it’s good to see this though. I only got into fighting games last year but from what I can tell the FGC was in a relatively comfortable position however, new developments and games coming out are causing the FGC to change in ways that are making old and new fans question where the scene is going. It’s interesting to say the least.
Whatever all I know is that SSFIV is gonna be too much hype for words.Especially when you factor in the new characters, new combos, new setups, new players, classic stream commentary from S.Kill and co,the possibility of the return of Daigo and other foreign players,an improved stream(hopefully?) and you’ve easily got a successor to the madness that was EVO 2009.And this is coming from someone that only gets to watch the live stream!
Ponder, great point. But alas, therein lies the problem. Had the staff even decided to go with Classic mode on HDR, would the Vanilla scene be willing to accept the compromise of playing the game on new sprites AND widescreen? I posed that question to the Vanilla scene a few months back and it certainly did not seem so. Moreover, if the Vanilla scene really wanted classic mode, then why haven’t they actually been proactive in running HDR-classic mode tournies and/or dragging players from ggpo over to XBL/PSN? Like it or not, there are NEWER PLAYERS who are attending tournies for the first time on account of HDR. Now before anyone says, I’m pro HDR, ST or whatever, I’m not. I’m Pro SF2 (that means I will support ST even if I feel that both HF & SSF2 are superior games to it).
In any event, I’m just happy that SF2 is going to be at Evo yet again. Propz to the staff for doing so.
Oh Ponder, my bro chuckled at the “random online warrior.” We should have formally shaken your hand at the B5 ,’)
Oh I’m sure you would as you’re one of the guys who’s been doing his thing for the HDR scene (props to you for that). But personally, I’d be very curious to see what the majority would prefer.
Hehe, I was just bein’ a smart ass. In all seriousness, while I do prefer HDR, I’m with Vintage. I’m more pro SF2 than I am HDR/ST/HF. They’re all very fine games IMO.
I really like this idea, even if just as an experiment with no actual change in the real games. The results would probably be quite interesting, and even if not just directly ported to the Evo games, could change a few minds. Why not give it a shot?
Here’s what John Choi said about it from the evo interview (and also mentioning that Graham and Alex Wolfe hate the game):
*John: It?s definitely a different game. I think the game has a lot of potential and that the suggestions where really good, but maybe just the implementation and execution didn?t follow through as originally planned. At the same time I understand that Backbone is a 3rd party company with limited resources with pretty much only David Sirlin doing all the design work and one other person doing a bulk of the programming, so of course it?s not going to come out as polished as something like Street Fighter IV which had a lot of manpower behind it.
That being said, there are some bugs in the game that are kind of annoying especially if you?re a long time Super Turbo player such as myself and a lot of other people. I guess you just treat it as a different game and try to look at it with an undiscriminating eye. I think everyone is looking at it as if it were ST and they were hoping it would be ST+, but it?s much more like a new game.*
I agree as it seems that itwas only David Sirlin doing much of the balancing and gameplay and having little help from Backbone as they aren’t competitive tournament players.
I thought much of the scene would have made the transistion over, but I think it’s like what Jeff Schaefer said in his youtube videos. When Hyper Figting was upgraded to Super, “it was the end of the OG”. When Super went to Super Turbo, a lot of people thought it was dumb, and the Super bar was a ridiculous idea. The same could be said for ST going over to HDR, but it’s been over a decade now and tourney players are just so used to ST as it was a well made game and it’s hard to make the change now.
I do think that HDR is a great game though, with a lot of thought put into it (as seen from David Sirlin’s articles), and it did bring back Street Fighter 2 for everyone.
not nearly enough complaining about old version of blazblue imo
that shit is worse than ladies tourney hands down. people don’t understand…when we say it’s a bad game, we don’t mean garden-variety bad, we’re talking tekken 4 bad. almost the whole community stopped playing CT after a month or two, and now with the new version out in arcades it’s deader than KOF in the US.
unless aksys has a secret hookup for CS, this is the REAL worst decision of evo’s this year. i’m hoping that turns out to be the real reason for this…
also vote melty blood, the new game is good and the community is the hungriest out there.
Yeah, I feel like I should have raised more hell about BBCT considering NOBODY plays it anymore. I don’t even play the game, but if I did I’d be a camel treat right now.
There aren’t any good female SFIV players in the U.S. except maybe that one Abel player Miyuki(?), a few more are decent. Good players or not, it’s still incredibly sexist. Since you don’t seem to know jack shit about women, I’ll tell you this: segregation =/= encouragement.
If you don’t mean it in a vulgar way then what the fuck do you mean? Seriously, I’m trying to read it sounds offensive no matter how I read it. I’ve been told at tournaments “hey there aren’t a lot of girls in this scene I think it’s really cool you’re doing this thanks for doing this” Thank me for coming to a tournament? Really? I was like wtf I’m not doing this for YOU I’m doing it cuz I want to play, scrub it up, and lose. Cuz it’s fun. Fuck it.
“Anyway I was thinking, I noticed there’s a very small number of Indian-American players in the FGC! How about we give them encouragement by giving them their own tournament so they can compete with each other. It’ll be exciting for everyone to watch right!? And hopefully more of them will play in the future so we’ll see more Indians at Evo 2011” <---- I don’t see how this is ANY different.
This shit makes me hate the SRK community, honestly. So hey, give yourselves a pat on the back for getting more girls involved.
I’ll chime in for BB CT being a poor decision. Every single good player in our scene is focused on CS(that was before the leak too), I know I’m not playing CT at evo in any capacity, and I imagine a majority of our particular scene will not either.
