You agree with the post that said Evo was fucking stupid for taking out MvC2 in favor of a girl’s tournament, even though MvC2 is not out yet and stands a decent chance of being in, and even though the girl’s tournament isn’t taking the place of anything.

im not against an all girl tourney, but the reasoning behind this is fucking retarded. just make it a side tourney along with everyone’s favorite dead game like my dead game Super Turbo and problem solved. then…if it becomes super hype, then a slight maybe.
dont believe this is the case, but this could be a ploy to pad capcom’s pocket. i mean, we had that shitty game mario kart ds that one year at, of all things, our biggest national fighting game tournament. really, i dont see any other purpose for this.

marvel should’ve been in no contest…all female tourney should be a no-no…i doubt the majority of people watch wnba (all 10 of you) are actually girly girls or females at all for that matter…3s shouldnt be in evo…the game doesnt get enough merit and shouldnt be demeaned to the point of running it on console just for the sake of it being there…console 3s is a joke…marvel shouldve been in since the get go and melty blood AA should take the last spot

I’m in the same boat except for an older version of BlazBlue being a main game when “the community” (ie Blazblue=dustloop right?) and many others have said they won’t support an older version of their game.
The following is a post I wrote for HDR FG Discussion but realized it might be more appropriate here. No cats were killed in the process of writing this post and neither was there any hating. Just reflection.
I feel really weird about EVO’s decision to use HDR again. ST is my favorite game of all time (arcade or HDR) and so I will shed a tear if it ever loses its place in a nationwide tournament. At the same time, HDR has created such a weird divide among players that most gamers have argued that it is a chore to play the game - that their “version” of SF2 has been tainted and they are waiting for a reversal of the community’s values to prove them right or to be left in the dust. I know quite a few players who hate HDR but are playing it competitively just to keep the scene alive. It is unsettling.
Then you have CVS2. A game everyone thought was dead a few years ago. Maybe it still is. Examining the last remnants of its community, however, brings about evidence that suggests the game is very much alive, forever changing and strategy getting deeper. And they stuck to ONE version of the game, no remixes or changes for them (EO was never in the running to be tourney worthy). It makes me sad that EVO supports the communities with the largest participants, with no measure or scale for the heart, grace, dedication or love of the game. ST, at one point prior to HDR, was a game full of love and dedication, and HDR tainted that slightly in my eyes. CVS2 at this point boils over ST’s level now and their just deserts are weak and disconcerting for FG lovers everywhere.
I am not hating HDR - I love the game for bringing more players to the tournaments and perhaps providing digestible evidence for casual gamers that ST has as much going for it as HF. Just sad that perhaps more deserving communities aren’t getting their spotlight due to political issues.
Side note: HDR brings about huge numbers in big tournaments. I’d say about 50-60% of those players don’t play HDR obsessively but consider it a side game that they know full well they are capable of competing in.
So I know next to nothing about MvC2 and even less about TvC, but is the general attitude toward TvC within the Marvel community? Do the players think it has the potential to be the next MvC2?
How does one go about measuring these qualities you say that games like ST and CvS2 have, especially from an administrative level?
Pretty hard to argue against numbers if you ask me.

HDR has made a very strong showing in 2009 and 2010. It’s almost always the game with the 2nd most entries (behind SF4) at tournaments. It’s included in EVO based on that strong showing. By comparison, MvC2 attendance at tournaments has dropped off considerably (Season’s Beating, aside), and when you see MvC2 it is almost always the Dreamcast version. The PS3 version is a different beast, which currently is not getting as much support from the community as a whole as HDR does. It’s not clear right now how people will come out for Marvel on PS3.
If you’re right, MvC2 will win the vote for the 6th game in a landslide and MVC2 will be at EVO. This would actually make me really happy. Marvel is always one of the most hype finals, and 2009 was no exception. If MvC2 doesn’t win the vote, then it shows the community doesn’t support Marvel on PS3 as much as they do the winning game.
In either case, the community will decide whether or not they want Marvel, as it should be.
can someone please tell me why we arent playing ST in HD mode instead of HDR? seriously, hdr was cute and w/e with the so-call balancing bs and how sirlin made many people waste time and money trying to help him fix these issues when instead he just said fug it and went with what he felt was best in the end? ST is a great game, and the only reason HDR even got a shot was because it looked like ST, it played somewhat close to ST, but its more like a rainbow version of ST. HDR sucks, plain and simple… if the point of having HDR was to give something to the original community of SF players then it is way off base. if the point of having HDR was to attract new players from online to a tourney, good stuff. but to say HDR was popular at EVO and entries can vouch for that… naw man, people entered cause it was convenient and i praise wizard for having the balls to say it. tom/tony/seth/wiz, you know i love you guys but seriously, HDR is really really really bad… might as well go to taiwan and get a rainbow edition of HF instead of this. at least if we played that we know the game is utter BS and wouldnt find something unexpected… /rant
Hopefully no one will shout “take it off” or some BS when it comes down to the all females tournament. That’s my only worry about the all female tourney. It’s a vegas atmosphere, combined with a majority of guys, plus the idiocy of large crowds…it’s bound to happen that someone will say a stupid comment like that.
Because it has a very strong tournament scene outside of EVO. Look at the Fuddrucker’s tournament last weekend: random online warrior took 2nd and almost sent Choi to losers. Going vanilla isn’t fair to the (masses) of people who have adopted HDR as the new standard.
It you can revive the vanilla ST scene and convince people to play HDR in classic mode rather than HDR, I’d go back to ST like gangbusters.

im not sure where i was being confusing at all but once again the fact that its played by people cause its convenient comes into play. its almost like ST and pleases some people, but overall if you are talking about the true ST and OG fans, this game doesnt cut it. will people play it? yes. would they rather play ST? yes. if you took a vote and seriously asked people who play both which one they like im certain ST wins hands down. and since you mention choi, i can tell you first hand dude thinks the game is garbage.
