Evo 2010 Game Announced Live on SRK Podcast @ 7PM PST!

Ok.

The point is to expose the FGC at large to the fact that trend of women playing competitively is increasing and that they’re a group that deserves respect. It should not be acceptable to throw up a stalker cam, or treat women players with the general derisive tone that is an undercurrent today in the community. It’s not that I WANT more girls in the FGC. The fact is more girls are coming into the FGC, and the we can choose to be less hostile to them, or stick with our current ways.

I don’t want any of that.

Then play in the main tournament. I wish you the best of luck. I hope you’ll also play in the women’s tournament. The entire point of the tournament is to showcase the GOOD women players. The good players will stomp the attention whores in the early tournament rounds so who cares about them. I also like some of crackbone’s suggestion about highlighting top women play in the open tournament with videos, etc.

I can’t believe I’m being baited by an obvious troll, but more players than HDR means that (gasp!) more human beings are interested in playing in an HDR tournament than a Marvel tournament, not that Evo is following the money. SF4 and Tekken6 are enough to get over 95% of Evo attendees through the door. The remaining game lineup does not affect Evo financially whatsoever, since all tournament fees go right into the pot for players.

Ask anyone who’s run a successful tournament if they’re a good way to make money. Gimme a break here.

mvc2 just got a re-release on a next GEN console with online play?** not to mention this game OUT SOLD HDR for XBL\psn. is that factor being overlooked?** Is this how we support games? wait for the port to come out then not support the game @ EVO?

I have never heard of such a thing and its frankly kinda retarded.

Exactly! Wiz is stupid as fuck for that. We’ll see if it gets voted in.

  1. Evo staff selects games
  2. People complain / bitch / threads get made / etc
  3. Evo comes around, nobody gives a shit at the end of the day and people have a good time anyway.

Thats hard to understand??

As I said before there is nothing wrong with the women’s tournament, its actually a cool idea for girls to enter and entertain the audience, and I don’t mean it in a vulgar way. However, the way the Womens tournament was presented: if you guys had not made this GAME 7 into the evo lineup and instead as a womens skill exhibition tournament, the FGC would had responded in a more positive way. No matter how you state that this tourney is not substituting any other game, even though you are right; people won’t acknowledge it. maybe you can come up with a better idea to make the people happy lol

I wouldn’t have nearly as much of an issue, personally, if it was a merit-based exhibition, similar to the regional team tournaments and whatnot. Then it’s more about showing off where girls stand currently as opposed to just being a scrub tournament for any random to jump in if they can’t hang in the real thing, as long as they pee sitting down.

People who can’t read don’t get to call people "stupid as fuck.’ or "fucking stupid. the chick tournament isn’t pushing anything back. MvC2 isn’t out yet, there’s still a final spot to be voted on, but interest has been declining lately. I disagree with the chick tournament, but because I’m literate, I’m not assuming it’s taking the place of something else I want.

Here’s my question in regards to the women’s tourney: Why SSF4?

Seems to me like there are more legitimately good female players in non-SF4 games, such as Tekken.

Also, I trust that the Evo stream would be respectful. The live evo audience… ehhhh…

Oh, and one more thing:

THEY DIDN’T DROP ANYTHING FOR THE GIRL TOURNEY. SIX GAMES WERE INTENDED FROM THE BEGINNING, SIX GAMES IT SHALL REMAIN.

And once again: Go MBAA. The community is most deserving.

Before I post, I just wanted to say again that I appreciate what inkblot and the evo staff does. I am critical of many of the decisions they’ve made over the years, and think their priorities are messed up, but those guys bust their asses and put a lot into making evo happen year after year. Their hearts are in the right place, but I think over the years they’ve taken a paternalistic attitude towards the community that has damaged the prestige of the tournaments. Regardless, I’d like to support you guys, thanks for your dedication.

That said, here’s my 2 cents on the game lineup:

SSF4 and T6: Ok, I get this. I could go into a long tangent on why I think including brand-new games like SSF4 is bad, but let’s not go down that road for now.

HDR: This should not have been a lock. Inkblot says that last year’s turnout is the reason for including it, but this answer tells me either evo staff is not being straight with us or they didn’t give selection much thought. Here’s why HDR got a big turnout last year:

-PPL paid $40 to enter SF4
-chances are, they had HDR on their next gen console
-HDR would only cost them $10 more to enter
-HDR is not hard to play
-Why not?

Using last year’s entries as a proxy for community interest, in a year when the only current next-gen fighting games available were HDR and SF4, is TERRIBLE reasoning. At the least, include marvel and this game in a separate polling and see what happens. By the way, I dislike both of these games.

(My conspiracy theory: Evo staff orgasms for ST/HDR. There’s no way on earth an evo would be held without one of those two on the docket as long as they are in charge.)

Blazblue: If Aksys offered you sponsor money to include it, then tell us straight up and we’ll accept it. Otherwise, it’s inexcusable to include an obsolete game, after we’ve learned year after year that it doesn’t work.

Tatsunoko: Same thing as Aksys applies re:sponsorship. Otherwise, I can understand the logic, but only if that logic is: promote new games at all expense. Which is a terrible reason to include a game in a player-run tournament, but again, let’s not get too involved in that.

Player’s choice tournament: Love the idea. Hate the fact that all the dedicated sub-communities are going to have to fight each other tooth and nail for this spot. I thought all of the evo games were supposed to be players choice? :stuck_out_tongue: I hope you come up with a good way to keep this from being rigged.

Women’s Tourney: A lot of very good arguments against this have been said. As long as it’s the 9 AM tournament, letting everybody else sleep in for a bit, I don’t have a problem with it.

(Having 9 AM grand finals at all should be ended btw. Having a tourney this early is the best way to kill crowd hype for that tournament)

"don’t suggest anything as an alternative"
you mean like how people have been saying things like “have a 2v2 tourney instead” for pages and pages
i guess that count as keeping one’s mouth shut

What I’m wondering is: Why Blazblue: Calamity Trigger? If you’re not going to host Continuum Shift, you might as well host something else. The players who live close enough to arcades to play CS(most of the good BB players) probably won’t play CT again. The game is now “hacked” and playable on the PC, so that means even more people moved off of CT. And in all likelihood the game will be released in June like last year, if not earlier. Last time the arcade release was november, the console announcement was in march, and it came out in june. Most of the really good arcade players will not want it, the people who are willing to set up CS on their PC will not want it, and the console players won’t want it. They’ll have all moved on by then.
Calamity Trigger is not nearly as bad as people in this thread make it out to be, “V-13, Noel and Rachel spam shit for 60 seconds durr durrr i know anything about the game whatsoever” but BB players still want to move on to something that is very superior.

Also, has the question about transgender people been answered yet?

Sale do not equal Tourney show ups, last year HDR had more applicants. (you see what I mean about sale not being the same as tourney players? SC4 sold alot of copies, was it top dog at EVO 2K9? Nope)

There is still another game to be added by vote, if MVC has the support it WILL BE MVC. I would not be suprised in the slightest if MVC ends up being voted in, when voting time pops up in a few days, put in for MVC, there ya go?

You know I love the crack, but sales don’t necessarily mean more players at Evo, especialyl for a highly developed game like marvel. And most likely the up and comers online will only like to play on ps3/360 with the awesome TE stick (best stick ever for marvel), nevermind the fact that the staff sold or destroyed the dreamcast last year.

I am not surprised at all.

Like many others, I’d like to believe that at the moment Blazblue CT is just a placeholder. Last year the big question was, “is this game going to come out in time?” It’s probably the same around this year. BlazBlue CS doesn’t have any official release date (that I know of) so it’d be pretty lame if the game hadn’t even come out by Evo.

There is NO

I repeat…NO reason to have a Calamity TRIGGER tourney.

Lets learn from the past please.

Its one thing if aksys wants to bring 1-2 h2h setups of continuum shift, but lets leave holding tourneys for obsolete games in the past decade please?

and bitches there is another thread on the girl tourney take the discussion there.

edit: having a CT tourney makes about as much sense as running a T5 DR tourney at this point…

I’ve never seen you post before, but that username is fucking awesome.

Then petition for the thread to be closed if it doesn’t matter so much. You’re more than welcome to laugh smugly everyone discussing this come July, but if all you’re trying to do is flush out discussion, I’ll put you on ignore.

Shut your ass up. My statement still stands. I still agree with the post I quoted. Regardless of the chick tournament, marvel should still be in imo.

It is in the games respective communities hands now and mvc2 has my vote.

I’ll be honest, I am surprised to not see Marvel in, but at the same time, I’m not surprised after hearing a lot of complaints towards the PSN/XBLA ports.

What does make me a bit curious though is why Calamity Trigger?

Like Jazz said, if its a place holder thats cool, but if it isn’t, then I personally think it may not be popular. Curious to see what the BlazBlue and DustLoop communities have to say about it

Actually, that’s not entirely true. A couple years ago, GG was bumped out of Evo. At Evo, the GG players showed up in force and threw a huge side tourney in order to get their game back into the main line-up.
