Evo 2006 LIVE RESULTS - Thread updated constantly

some of the their big name players may have been knocked out (bas, daigo), but the japanese still did extremely well this year. The people they sent mostly specialize in GGXX, 3s, CVS2, AE (just daigo). Even counting MVC2, they grabbed the top spot in 3/5 SF tournaments.

We definitely improved in cvs2, knocking out daigo, tokido, nuki, nitto, bas. Seems like Ricky is still tops in the US when it comes to CVS2. And Kindebu has the edge on Ricky.

3s last year we were closer, Jwong almost took it with nuki having to come from the losers bracket to steal it.

GGXX, japs play that way more.

AE was surprising in a number of ways. No watson, choi, where was dirty cole? It’s nice to see the old school step up tho, Nelson!!!

Hopefully the prize money will still be 80k or more next year, and the competition will only heat up. Evo has definitely set the bar in this regard, props to the cannons for revitalizing the community.

3s is all yun an chung in tournies… too much fun.

Thanks for putting the facts strait.
In that case, go USA!
Conquer them next year!

damn…

who won a single match against justin in the entire singles tourney?

Congrats SmoothCat – you can’t retire 'till you get that big money.
Afrolegends for making top8 in AE. QUOTE]

play the way he’s been playing he ain’t going to get shit.

big ups to Alex Wolfe. representing the true school/old school street fighter.

Gian didn’t enter SFII this year?

Man, I can’t believe the Japs held us out in 3s AGAIN. The top 4 are all Japanese. 3 of which had to make their way through last chance quals!

Pretty awesome of Valle to take out Daigo in 3s. Shame he only got 7th, though. I think people are making it a bigger deal than it is. Sure, we took down Daigo, but we still got clusterfucked by the Japanese.

Are they holding Evo in Vegas again next year?

Out of curiosity, since japanese play mostly Arcade games and there was no Arcade AE release, how do they have a scene for it?

you mean anniversary edition? well Hyper came out in the arcades and obviously so did 3s.

They have every version of SF in the arcade. I talked to Daigo about that, but he said his favorite is ST. We played the exhibition match on stage after the tournament on ST. I was able to beat him 2-1. Personally, I’d rather play ST but AE was the pick so everyone had to man up and practice. All I know is that I had Graham to practice with, I’m sure their pool of players is a little bigger. :lovin:

Daigo had many very good things to say about me and my brother’s play. The man is a dam good player and if anyone says he was a push over, there out of their minds. I’m very happy me and my brother had a chance to play him, was a real treat. Props to Valle and Nelson for their wins against him. You guys played great

This was my first EVO. And it was great. Had loads of fun. I lost in CVS2 on stage. First by KSK then by INO. However, I did manage to get to both of their last characters though. Nice meeting the Wolfe Brothers, the 3 Jasons (nice ST Vega), Spence (Dubl07), Shinobi00, Valle, NKI, and a few others.

To everyone I played SF and CVS with, feel free to critique my game.

The “A controller was removed…” was BS. 3S, Marvel, CVS had that glitch. Wonder if they are gonna leave that stuff in the EVO DVDs.

Oh yeah, a few of us picked up a boat load of trash after the 3S finals.

I gotta give props to PYRO LEE!!!

He never enters EVo and soon as he does hes the highest placing American.
Good shit man indeed!

Yall aint fucking around with Yun huh…shit!

Old man Valle is still a BEAST. Good shit taking out the Beast.

Good Job to the MidWest Guilty team too. I think yall got some money for 4th.

And thnks to eveybody that keeps this shit going on so I can have something to look forward to when I have a chance to compete again!

Outro

Good job to everyone that attended. Glad to see some familiar OG faces in the top slots. Sorry I could not go this year, but I’ll try my best to get to this next year!

I’m not going to make excuses for Japanese, but I don’t want anyone to get confused about who are better players. On our turf (the USA method of majors) we play on console. On their turf (Japan majors) they play on arcade cabinets. Granted the USA really does not have arcades anymore, we kind of have to take what we can get.

When the USA players go to Japan and play at SBO on arcade cabinets, we get pummeled, simple as that.

No slight against anyone, console does take a tremendous amount of skill, but to be honest:

Apoc (who went from top 4 to stuck in pools because of console), Watson, Choi having problems over the past few years, until this year, Sirlin, (this is just ST?AE since the console switch). Do we really think they would do poorly on arcade cabinets? Of course not.

Do you all remember a few years ago when all the console naysayers said “console sucks, arcade is the true way of skill”, now that we are doing better against the Japanese on console, we are better players?

Granted anyone that beats Daigo in ANY type of tournament, it’s a major feat, but the Japanese are still on another level. Give them a standard Japanese arcade cabinet vs our console or USA arcade cabinet, and I don’t think a player in the USA could stop him or most of the Japanese contingency.

^^^ Truth

I fully agree with you; however, Japs have been warned that evo is on console for at least 2 years, so it’s their responsiblity to practice and be prepared before every evo.

Yup…what Jason said.

what place did Pyro Lee get in 3s?

5th.

Daigo told me personally after the tournament that he thought I was on the same level as the Japanese and that I could win tournaments over there. He extremely impressed that me and Graham could play at this level after being out of the game for so long. Sorry but I think I’ll take his opinion a little above yours. :wgrin:

As far as cabinets go, I played Onuki in ST on Japanese arcade cabinet and beat his Chunli with my Dhalsim. What’s more, is I gave one of my friends second round and still beat him in the 3rd round. Yeah, I’d say that was at my disadvantage. lol.

He admitted to me and Graham that he got beat bad and made no excuses. He said the level of play this year was far higher than the year before. Once again, there is hear say. And there is real life. End of story!

P.S.
I have never played a console tourney in my life before EVO WEST, ever! Every other tournament I have ever played in my life has been on a Arcade.

sorry for the delay since the frst post regarding sanford’s “randiom” bracket… i was busy shaving my nutsack and slowly placing it in the mouth of everyone who talked shit and ate a nice slice of dick in the form of $6600. watching justin’s asian cock slice through the marvel brackets is getting to be like that one porn you have watched too many times, but you keep watching anyway hoping to catch something new; either that or you can’t afford any new porn… my initial shagrin came from what i thought would be some interracial rape scenes in the finals involving sanford… black cock just does so much more damage than the yellow… but the asians will always have the upper hand seeing as they will do just about anything on film to catch a nut.

… but for real… good job justin, chunk, and soo especially… my cohort in console hate taking 4th at a console tourney.
