I noticed this happens a lot after a crouching mp or lp after axe kick. http://i.imgur.com/P5YrKKF.png I always seem to drop the tatsu cancel when I’m on P1 side because of this. Anyone have any tips? Am I holding the stick wrong?
Like Audric said, it hits low. For example a very common tactic is empty jump into cr. LK or even cr. MK. You fool your opponent into thinking that you’re going to perform a jumping attack so they block standing. Instead you don’t do a jumping attack or do one very early so it won’t hit and instead go for a cr. LK or cr. MK when you land. If they’re still standing they will get hit by it. If you were to do a cr. LP it wouldn’t hit low so your opponent can still block it standing.
Just to add…Using c.lk allows you to crouch tech at the start of your combo. C.lk has an extra active frame, so it’s easier to hit meaty. C.lk also puts e.ryu into a lower profile state which will make some reversals whiff.
No it doesn’t, it works on mostly shoto’s.
Don’t have the specific list though, your better off just using HP SRK or if you have the execution cr.lp, st.hp.
Nope, if you’re asking this because you saw the Daigo/Smug match then that only linked because Daigo landed a counter hit cr. MP. Counter hit medium and heavy attacks give you 3 extra frames of advantage so all those CH cr. MP’s were +8 on hit making the cr. HP link a easy 3f link. Damage and stun is nuts though. Daigo got 605 stun and 393 damage off each of those without using meter.
I’d love it if it worked for real though. We could just do cr. LK, cr. LP, cr. HP into axe kick combo for over 300 damage. Yeah it’d probably be too good but it wouldn’t be our problem lol.
idk if this is known or not but against hakan and rufus you can do st.HP xx mk.axe kick >> cr.mp xx ex.tatsu and the tatsu will drop but it crosses them up. its useful bc you can get an ultra that’s less scaled. if they don’t block the cross up it net around 530 damage. however hakan can buffer u2 while getting hit by the tatsu or can block the tatsu and u2 as a punish. I’m not sure what Rufus can do and idk what other characters this works on.
That’s exactly what happened to me once before. All I wanted was to do EX tatsu into Ultra in the corner and then the drop happens with the guy mashing Ultra 2 and I get punished for it. Honestly the reset into Ultra would be so fucking good if people weren’t mashing all the time looking for us to drop the cr. LP/MP link after MK axe kick? And I still don’t understand why most people keep doing it. Lets take Ryu for example. If he mashes DP and I drop the link, he gets 160 damage. But if he held down back and I miss the link he could do cr. MP, cr. HP, HP SRK for 278 damage.
When I’m in the Evil Ryu mirror I never mash because I’m hoping for that drop so I can go for the axe kick combo myself. It’s kind of hilarious when my opponent and I drop it consecutively. Sometimes it went up to 3 between the two of us before one of us finally hits the link or just goes for something easy.
Whenever I try to use divekicks I can never combo off of it. After it hits I get thrown. Can you list some dive kick set ups? I started using E.Ryu but I mostly play like how Daigo plays except my footsies are bad and I have bad execution. Does E.Ryu have any cheap set ups? I remember someone threw me whiffed a st. mp then dive kicked but I simply blocked it I don’t know if that was some sort of set up or not.
Forward throw, whiff (st.MP, cr.MP, sweep, or throw), forward jump, (dive kick or j.MK) is a fairly decent 50/50 setup. If you predict your opponent is going to delay wakeup, you could try whiffing an additional jab before or after whiffing whatever action you normally choose.
The timing for combing off a dive kick takes some getting used to at first. Just keep practicing.
