At a certain point you just have to play the game. If you engage in name-calling (especially “f**khead”) then you’ve proven you’re no better than anyone else here.

I’m Links on steam, add me and we can practice. I play Evil Ryu, Ryu, Dudley, Cody, and I’m trying to learn Adon. Might be good to get some matches against Adon in, since he really tests your spacing and fundamentals.

I have trouble with the lk Axe Kick link as well (don’t feel like FADCing just to go into light punches) so I consistently do the crMK into fierce punch and I don’t even have to plink since the timing is so easy. Something about the standing HP is easier for me than crHP too, so I always go standing HP xx whatever. mk Axe Kick usually. It also looks very cool.

Been bouncing around some characters but I have narrowed it down to 3. I’ve been playing some Evil ryu more and more lately and I still have a few questions.

Evil Ryu’s footsies don’t really seem very strong what should I be using?

How do you guys use his footsies. Next Ultra 1 vs Ultra 2 I like Ultra 1 because lets say someone randomly does a bad jump in I can light uppercut ultra however I have seen ultra 2 in more red focus combos. st.hp seems like his bnb but what happens when your out of range of st.hp what do you use? c.lk, c.lp, c.mp the m.mp wiff’s unless your really close.

How do you get in?

Far s.mp isn’t bad. Of course you want to land c.mk so you can FADC into axe kick combos, but it’s noticeably slower than Ryu’s.

Ultra 2 can still hit off of light srk against deep jump-ins. Or if you’re quick, you can get a full animation U2 against jump-ins. But of course don’t do it against Oni (air dash bait), when either of you are in the corner (will go under), or deep jump-ins against other characters with air hurricane kick.

I am not really great with fadc I’m still practicing. I am trying to be able to do it on command but it’s still really mashy with say fadc ultra and I still often hit with the fadc when I try to dash :/.

I’m getting the hang of low fireball FADC, I don’t normally burn meter for LK axe kick FADC unless it’s a red focus into Ultra. My problem with low forward fireball FADC though is that I’m not comfortable doing it from near max distance. So when I’m at that range, I don’t really even consider it an option because I’m not getting the kind of damage that I want. I also struggle to adjust to crouchers when I’m out of cr. HP/cl. HP range. At least I can recognize a crouching opponent and opt for a sweep in that situation.

When I watch replays or streams of other Evil Ryu players. They almost never go for tatsu > sweep against the characters that it works against. If they don’t do DWU, you get a ambiguous jump in. If they do use it, you can dive kick to maintain pressure(risk getting reversal’d though) or empty jump into a low and hopefully they won’t know which side you’re on. But instead all I’m seeing it a fierce DP for max damage and a dash up meaty. I feel like I’m the only Evil Ryu player that makes sweep my first priority outside of certain situations or reads. What about you guys. When you fight one of the 27 characters that tatsu > sweep works against, do you use it or do you just stick with a SRK to end the combo?

It’s a 1f link against most of the cast that it works against so I’ll admit I do drop it a lot. But I’m so enticed by the fact that 2 Evil Ryu combos = stun that I want to keep going for it.

cr.mk keep getting srk. is there anymore thing we can do?

If you want to be consistent with evil ryu you must have really good footsies and anti air game. Shutting down opponents ground game with cr.mk is crucial. Once you get an opponent in the corner any cr.mkxxhado fadc = full damage combo. Also knowing character specific stuff helps for combos as well (being able to combo cr.hp from just about any range cr.mkxxhado fadc against Dudley). Not only that but knowing things that can help reduce risk of dropping combos (after mk axe kick on dudley you can hit cr jab st mp into lk tatsu dp).

is there anything evil ryu can use to abuse?

I’m using the tatsu-sweep exclusively, if it works on my opponent. Really getting a lot of millage out of it.
Its a 1f-link :O, definitely does not feel like it! Also have not seen any other e.ryu do it.

LK axe kick has become my second bnb, I can land it pretty much every time and the distance you can travel when it works is unbelievable. Say I’m in the corner and it hits, when I’m done where half screen :).

You really should have joined this forum 6 years ago. You’d have gotten chewed up and spat out in a week there’d be so many people calling you out. You’re lucky it’s only two or three. Everything is here for you to read. Posting every single question you have without looking for an answer that is already here is what is annoying people. This forum is specific questions. Not stuff like “How do I play footsies?” Those answers are elsewhere. Maj’s Footsies Handbook. Domination 101. Seriously. Read that shit. Quit whining about people calling you names or not answering you questions. Read the real info, learn a bit about how to play, and then come back and ask “So, Dudley is owning me with his f+hp, what do I do?” Those are the kinds of questions this part of the forum is for.

Read “You can lead a scrub to water…” and you’ll have a good idea of why people are hating on you right now, and how harsh this forum used to be. Seth Killian pulls no punches.

cr.mkxxfireball can be heavily abused if it connects. Far St. MK is also a good normal to annoy characters. Sweep is fast has good range and is mostly safe. The only bad part is against a good player whiffing any of these normals can be very dangerous. Any normalxxmk axe kick is safe and if you land a hit or even counter hit you can go for big damage, not a true blockstring tho so if you get too predictable you can get heavily punished for it. Mix it up with fireballs obviously.

Against the original 5 characters that it worked against before(Rose, Cammy, Rog, Sim, DJ) and Poison, you have 2f to sweep them after a LK tatsu. The other 21 characters that you can tatsu sweep like Viper or Sagat you only have 1f to hit that sweep.

As for LK axe kick FADC, I think I might start going for this when near max range. I’m not comfortable burning meter on cr. MK, hado, FADC from that range so maybe I should try it with LK axe kick FADC instead since a MK axe kick combo is guaranteed. Problem is hitting that 1f link into cl. MP or cr. LP. I’ve been working on that link for years now but never wanted to commit to it until I felt I was hitting it something like 80% of the time. Sometimes when I’m in the training room I’m hot and hit it 10 times in a row, then the next day I’ll get it 3 times in 10 tries. Well it’s either this or make sure I have another bar for EX red focus which removes the execution issue.

I can understand the 80% part. Its all about the pratice (don’t need telling you that ;p). If you plink the cl.MP, its easy as pie. I normally start in training mode and try to go from one corner to the other using cr.mkxxLK axekick FADC, cl.MPxxMK axekick, cr.LP, st.MPxx LK axekick FADC, cr.LP, st.HPxxMK axekick etc. Really helps to get the timings down.

My problem is that this combo is so deep in my fingers I hardly use red focus, done it maybe twice.

I actually practice using the same method. I think my success rate with that link is probably around 50%. So I don’t have the confidence to go for it most of the time because I feel like I’m most likely just going to drop the combo and waste meter. I will keep it up though, it really comes in handy from that max low forward range where you don’t get much extra damage from FADC’ing cr. MK > hado.

if having doubts and asking questions in this forum is whinning(provided was told by others to ask for matchup). then i understand where this is going to end up with. thanks for all the advise and stop bring up/quoting all these nonsense. me and the other guy have stop. so just let this matter die off.:slight_smile:

I’ve got this bad habit of going to Low Forward XX LK Axe all the time. I need to use fireball since even if I FADC forward, I’m still safe.

Btw, I do go for sweep sometimes, but I’m not sure it’s worth it. Depends on the timing. Maybe near a stun, if you can get a good setup, yes, but any other time I would rather just SRK. It’s nice vs Cammy since there are multiple ways to make her Cannon Spike whiff after a sweep.
