3f Safe Jump setup works as Ryu, Ken & Evil Ryu against all shotos:
Just thought it was worth mentioning but Daigo is now the #1 Evil Ryu in Japanese USF4 arcade rankings. And he has more matches using Evil Ryu than Ryu with a total of 579 matches with 439 of them being wins(75.82 win percentage). I think his Ryu has a little over 400. Does this mean he’s really going to change to Evil Ryu? We’ll find out at some point. Imagine Sako and Daigo coming to EVO both repping Evil Ryu.
Here is a somewhat recent picture of him about to face a Ryu player.

Wait what!!! I wonder how he plays E.Ryu?
Can’t wait till evo, shits gonna be hype!
I can only assume its similar to sako with a couple minor differences [sick as fuck footsies an even sicker fireball game, but much less emphasis on unblockables (Less FADC combo enders into HKD especially due to DWU)] but who knows
Im stoked
Im also wondering how sako is going to deal with DWU. Crazy setups that can cover both with dive kick or disgusting metered tatsu resets.
At a basic level Evil Ryu plays almost exactly like Ryu. So it’s a easy transition for Daigo who is probably playing Evil Ryu nearly the same way he plays Ryu. Evil Ryu’s footsie isn’t as good, but the pay off is much bigger for him than it is for Ryu. On top of that he actually has some mix ups and gimmicks that Daigo may find useful compared to Ryu who is about as honest as it gets. Head to head, it may still be slightly in Ryu’s favor or even in USF4(although that target combo into fake cross up in the corner might be a game changer). But overall I believe Evil Ryu is better in USF4 and I think that’s why Daigo may be making Evil Ryu his new main.
And we may have some new company from another top Japanese player known for playing a shoto
That’s not Evil Ryu. That’s just his pissed Ryu cause some scrub thinks he can use his main against him.
I don’t think Daigo has those things…
What it’s called…

Oh right, emotions
You can’t win all the time if you don’t despise losing. He has emotions. The people are best at things, get the most upset with themselves when they fail. That’s how they get so good.
sako’s evil ryu was a lot more solid, daigo’s a bit YOLO’ish.
Here are my general thoughts of Ultra Evil Ryu in the “General” thread.
Target combo: I like it a lot, I call it “the lazy man’s OS”. Sure I could do low forward OS LK axe kick or HK tatsu, low forward has a lot more range and hits low. But their is some risk involved and this on the other hand is so simple and easy. Their is no negative edge, if you touch something then the HP comes out, if not then you whiff a far MP which isn’t that bad. I use it a lot to try and punish people dashing in or using a move to get in like Gief’s green hand or Hawk’s spire or condor dive. On block it’s -5 and with enough delay it has enough push back to make him safe against most of the cast because not many characters have a far reaching 5f(or faster) normal.
Sweep: This move being made faster has made me do my best Akuma impression. I do a lot of walk in and sweep my opponents near max distance to get a knockdown and if it’s blocked then again I’m safe most of the time because of the push back. And I feel like I’m the only Evil Ryu player who likes to do tatsu > sweep against the characters that it works against. It may not be the best idea, but even with DWU I like having that knockdown and hopefully guessing right on their wake up because all Evil Ryu needs is 2 combos to stun just about every character in this game.
Hop kick: The expanded hit box has really come in handy in a few match ups. The ones that really stuck out to me is Gouken and Ryu since I’ve gotten blown up in the past when their respective low profile moves ducked under Evil Ryu’s hop kick and they recovered first to punish me.
The other buffs like extra health or more block stun on cr. MK help, but they don’t add or change his play style at all. I’m not that solid of a player, I like going for gimmicks and pressuring people after knockdowns so that should explain why I use those moves the way I do. Anyways I was pretty happy with the change list when it was first released last year and now that I’ve had a lot of time with the new Evil Ryu nothing has changed. He’s a pretty solid character although not dominating at all in any particular match up. A lot of well known players have made the switch to him so I’m excited to see what those guys can do with this character as time goes on.
I just don’t even understand street fighter. I have no idea how I will lose to people that know zero combos. Even worse it seems like moves trade that shouldn’t example I played another evil ryu I would jump in MK he would jump in with double hp I believe in the air I would get juggled and he would srk me.
Fireballs are straight up dangerous to use even at full screen people will litterally get hit just to gain ultra just to ultra when you throw a fireball.
I played the same bad ryu again I threw a fireball he ultra now I was thinking there is no way I would get hit because I only threw a fireball and I could just jump. But even holding up the ultra hit me.
I tried to do the exact same thing in a different round and he was about to jump.
I try to punish moves and every jumpin but I’ll lose to crazy people mashing buttons crushing me. I was so blown I looked at a replay abd turned on inputs it was litterally like 40 inputs for a 3 hit combo.
I get srk for even the smallest drop then there are times I land the combo just fine and srk just hits me after I complete it.
I don’t know why I can go from 1k pp to 200 I swear I’m out playing people but I will lose to srk srk srk when I try to use footsies. But when I bait it I’m either to far to punish or they just don’t do it.
I really don’t feel like he has any reliable safe block strings.
Try posting one of your matches with the new youtube function in the video thread. Makes it easier to give you some pointers.
I don’t know how it is suppose to work. All it does every time I try to use it is that it Pulls up the versus. But never actually does anything past that.

My suggestion would be to block instead of trying to jump ultras if you’re worried that you might be in range. It doesn’t specifically mean that all fireballs are unsafe, trying to jump over an ultra is just not always the safe bet, especially if you can block. If it’s gonna chip you then that’s a different story, but jumping still wouldn’t be advisable (at most ranges. Obvs if they’re full screen you gotta hop on they head).

Forever a stone.
Can someone clear something up for me. I got the Brady Games app for ultra street fighter 4 and according to its data cr. mk counter hit combo into medium wheel kick should not be possible. Cr mk is a +0 on hit with 16 recovery frames while medium wheel kick has 20 startup frames. If counter hit adds 3 frames of hit stun you would end up being at -1 if you replaced the 16 recovery frames of cr mk with the 20 startup frames of medium wheel kick. Therefore why does this combo? Is there a special property on evil ryu’s cr mk that it adds 4 frames of hit stun on counter hit? Thats the only reason I can think of but if thats true its pretty bad that this app doesnt mention it.
Soooo… Anyone notice E.Ryus Close St.Lp isn’t cancalable. Just BS. I should start hiding my E.Ryu combo videos when they do updates!!!

Yeah, it’s a bug. It’s in the bug thread here - USF4 Bugs and improper set character data list. *SUBMITTED TO CAPCOM!*
So did anybody else buy the new costume for Evil Ryu besides me and Donfloris(I know he has it because we’ve played)? The trailer didn’t give us a good look at it but I bought it anyways just for the sake of having it. And I’m glad I did because I really like it. The new costumes have 24 colors each I think. Color 7 and 13 are my favorites because I prefer darker colors. Color 13 has the edge for me so that’s what I’ll be rocking for now most of the time. I didn’t think it would happen but I’m finally retiring alt 1 color 10 for a little while.
Color 22 is my personal favorite, so calling dibs on that one
As for the really colorful ones its like seeing a power ranger, really weird haha.
