dandy j when kof 13 comes out and they run a decent size tournament for it in chicago (god willing) you’re more than welcome to come out some time and play and no it won’t be associated with dark geese incorporated. i’m going to do my best to get as many people in to it as possible… but it’s just going to take a certain level of dedication by everyone… not just one or two people… as you should know by now. I’m willing to put the leg work into this and hopefully something at least will come out of it. The interest is definitely there but it’s going to take more work than what is being done now… which just an endless runaround. the “i promote snk games” act might fly in MN since for whatever reason they can’t seem to put together their own tournaments (?) but that sure as hell doesn’t fly here. Oh same thing to you Desmond… I’m sure it must have been frustrating coming down for a 3 person kof and whatever else SNK event… but yeah i’ll try not to let you guys down and actually get some guys for you to play… not just say SNK GAMES HERE and then (not) be surprised when no one shows up.
to be fair, MN also came to the tournament to actually play someone worth playing in SNK/KOF games (darkgeese). funny how some people forget he’s our BEST player in this country. i like how syxx you say it’s “quality over quantity” in games like HDR or whatever…but then when it comes to that particular tournament…that doesn’t apply. considering the lack of snk/kof interest in the ENTIRE COUNTRY as it is.

As far as people not showing up to RG: Midwest, it basically just told us there are people that just talk shit here on SRK (I’m not sure if a few of you were actually scared of Dark Geese but we the sure hell weren’t) and there are people that actually spend time playing the games they like and are willing to travel out of state for a challenge regardless.
Almost the whole KOF crew up here in MN doesn’t post online except for me, and I’m wondering why I’m even doing that, lol…A lot of cats here has life fucked up.
Yeah i give you tons of credit for getting KOF added onto that tournament you guys ran a couple months back. If you ever decide to come back to this neck of the woods i’ll do whatever I can to get a real scene going and make it worth your while to come down so you don’t just end up playing a handful of people who just know how to press buttons. I know you are really good, and I want want to be good too… but it’s going to take a lot of working together with people locally to get everyone to a decent level to even begin to start thinking about getting better, which isn’t a problem with many games for me locally such as Tekken, which I can play good players with in person, and like I did with SF2,where I could play good players with online in a generally lag-free setting, which wouldn’t affect how I played offline. There’s only so much one can learn by sitting in training mode, playing in single player, and beating down on people who have no clue what they are doing and don’t really care that much anyway.
And no, like I stated before when the tournament was announced that there was a huge lack of interest in the immediate area but after introducing some of the games to people in person and showing them the basics there is more interest now in people wanting to learn a new game that doesn’t begin with the word “super.” But like what dandy j was saying the way they came off with that thread was so discouraging to people who might have been interested but weren’t going to show up to try to beat dark geese or get beat… the scene is too small for that nonsense. For now it just needs to be nurtured as much as possible.
Webster is just mad because he focused on getting Tekken players to play KOF (or so he claims, it’s not actually true) but the people who I’ve gotten to play have been around for awhile it’s just a matter of pulling everyone together who is interested in 2D, which has still existed in small quantities in this area but has grown significantly over the past few months. It’s just not new players either… the main problem that we had was there wasn’t really a central place to play, and now not only Milwaukee, but Chicago has regular gatherings though I will say that most of the Chicago gatherings are centered around SF4, the Milwaukee ones are totally different. And then of course you have the south side chicago people where most of the current scene have been around for a bit and there is at least a slight interest in KOF and other games.
The main problem is, like I said before, it just takes a certain level of dedication to get into a game like that… not everyone is willing to even be bothered with importing, or downloading roms, or going online to play. I think doing any of that, while might be simple to some people, is just asking too much of most. The reason why I think 13 will turn it around is because it’s just such a better game and of course will get an american release. 12 could have been the turning point, however it was just too bad and too unfinished.
One last thing that I will never understand is, if someone is trying to get people interested in playing different games, why they would establish such a terrible report with the local players. It’s extremely discouraging to see the same old “I don’t give a fyck” and then not understand why no one wants to play.
I couldn’t have said this better myself. I’ve been in this too many times and tired of it. You kinda get to the point where you’d rather not even play as opposed to playing people who suck/don’t care about the game.

and here is the biggest bunch of bullshit you could have typed. i have tried not to just get those players involved in playing KOF (by running free tournaments or having casual stations at tournaments/gatherings). but there have been a whole fuck ton of fighting games I tried to get those motherfuckers to play. you know i have a much longer history with the WI tekken scene than YOU DO. i was around playing tekken 2/3 with antonio c at the arcades…where the fuck was you? oh that’s right…you didn’t show up until tekken 5, 5-6 years LATER.
