Everett, WA - AFK Tavern - Upcoming Events

its pretty tight that this is 18+ and a bar

I can bring a ps3 setup (monitor, console, 1 stick) for ssf4/t6, and a copy of ssf4 for xbox.

Yes, you’re right I shouldn’t bash on the lanfest thing, but it smells of corporate monetization of the community.
And I dont like how gameclucks appears to do the same thing.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
REALLY??
I should prob stop there before I make someone look like a dumb ass (and it wont be me).
You may want to check your facts on Infernal LAN though… because you OBVIOUSLY do not know what you are talking about.

I’m not going to beat a dead horse, people have debated this stuff more than enough already.
I have checked my facts and I just call it like I see it, if you want to set me straight on the facts feel free to do it in person then.

LOL

Your facts are wrong, plain and simple. More then happy to explain it in person on Saturday. Its a one word explanation.

Gameclucks: COOL place to hang out and play

AFK: COOL place to hang out and play (from what I’ve heard from the people here)

All Lan parties: Wack sauce. Personally, I would never try to host a “fighting game” at a lan-type party just because there is a culture clash in respect to “PC” gamers to “Fighting Game” (console) gamers. With that said, if I were to host a tournament that reaches out to new potential players (with sponsorship), I would do it at a time/place that has a mix of both PC and console gamers. Such type events in life do occur and one such LARGE even like this is PAX every year.

So, in a nut shell, the best opportunity to get sponsorship (or, be involved with sponsoring in general) and attract a new crowd would be ONLY to reach out to such said events as I stated above like PAX.

Lan parties are a FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!!!

Frankdadank: Man be quite about running a “season” type tournament, you fucked that up so let Will give it a shot if he wants to.

Oh yeah, so I approve of holding something on the 4th at the bar.

Hey now, there’s no need to be so salty. LANs are fun. Tourneys are fun. Like a strawberry and banana they’re good in different ways and can be great together. There’s no reason for the two to be unable to live concurrently with each other. Anyway, I’ll be up at the Tavern tomorrow night around 7:30-8:30pm if anyone wants casuals on PS3.

I stopped by to check out the displays for the xboxs, they are asus displays so theres a fair chance they wont be laggy.

Is this confirmed for the 4th? What hours are we looking at?

What am I missing? How is the LAN party going to be important to our community here?

Yes it’s confirmed for December 4th, Doors open and Registration starts at 3PM, Tournament will probably start around 4pm.

Big TV’s with the PStriples feel okay, there is some slight lag on them. The ASUS monitors for the 360’s I hear didn’t have any issues (I didn’t get to test them myself but a Halo: Reach Around friend of mine said they were fine.)

Good seeing Sunny and Eman out there as well as Zerostar the B-day boy.

The only thing I see causing an issues is getting peoples sticks plugged in and out of the 360s. If the 360’s are plugged in directly behind the “curtain” then maybe some USB hubs are in order… powered or otherwise… Can we get a better idea on that Keshtath?

There are actually 2 problems:
1: The asus displays are too close together to get 2 people in front of each screen.
2: We’ll have to have a staff member plug and unplug people from the the xboxs for each match.

We’ll probably only be able to use 1/2 of the setups due to space, and see if we can move the rest to a different area for use.
The owner says a 6+ ft cord should have no problem reaching the xboxs, I’m going to scrape together as many usb extension cords as possible just in case.

Good games all around last night especially since I was about to leave! Wish I could attend the tourney but I wish the best of luck to y’all setting it up.

Looking Forward to AFK Tavern AND lanFest,

Ever since tournament wars has been taking away, i believe people have been wanting another location that they can play SF and drink at the same time.

Players listen, the NW gaming organizers are in the process of grouping together and staying in constant contact with each other. This will help the NW be able to have multiple functions a month as well as supporting each other and cross promotion without stepping on peoples toes.

You wanna know why NcR and SCR get so many turn outs? Its definitely not because of out of towners…no its because when SoCal has an event, ALL of Nor Cali goes and VICE VERSA.

So now you look at the NW…we have Portland, Seattle, Canada. The sad thing is that these places are all 2 hours away from each other. In California…nor cali and so cali are 6/7 hours apart. They still support and dont cry about traveling.

So, understand that YES sometimes events will happen on the SAME DAY. This is unavoidable sometimes. So what do you do in this situation? Well you Definitely DO NOT go to the person who started their event second and shit on them for having it on the same day. NO, what you do is support it anyway. You say " Hey, if anyone that can not make it to the lan event…then come relax over at the event at AFK Tavern. Mutual support, everyone’s happy.

NW players, stop bringing stuff down, support one another. Nobody is better then anyone else and the only way to improve our scene is to untie and support all elements.

until I see people supporting others, they really have no place trying to shit on anyone else.

So support both events. I support both of these events and IM NOT EVEN going to be attending. You know why? Because what else is on Dec 4th is North East Championships in Philly. So I will be over there making a few business connections. I know both of these events will go smoothly though. Good luck to all!!!

NCR and SCR are majors and they get alot of out of state players. Around 30 min. I was tlaking to the people who organize most of the local tournies. The crazy thing is there was 3 local tournies in Socal withing an hour and a half of each other IN ONE WEEK. In norcal they have consistant weekly tournaments and they have consistant sessions. Certain players make it a habit to play each otehr twice a week for a small session every certain days of the week. We used to have grill fights but now we don’t have anything on a consistant weekly basis. It’s not hard to see why Cali is as good as they are. They are hungry, they have lots of players who are hungry, they all have their combos down regardless if they have lack of footsies or mind games which means you have to respect them when it comes to whiffing shit (think before you leap).

Nor Cal and SoCal are pretty seperated whe it comes to regular tournaments they only really clash during majors whjich is good for keeping rivalry fresh and meaningful.

Pretty much why Cali is considered the place to be for such events! But we still have plenty of good, interested players. Our scene is strong when it comes together.

I agree. But when? Soon hopefully. Everyone seems to be waiting for something. SSF4 AE isn’t going to save the scene. We need some plausible solution to bring people together. A major of some sort ran by the scene together. That would be nice :shy:
