women can save the scene >_>
Yes Monica, we do. We also need them to slap some sense into Bokkins head.
Yes, they support “their” major. They also promote and few out of towners come (i dont remember to many east coast guys there…).
Our scene is what we put into it. We have monthlies that can be 60+ if portland, seattle and canada all participated (as well as the cities around).
You want to talk about saving the scene Riki-oh? How about everyone (meaning the entire NW) start supporting NW events as a whole instead of your little segregated areas. We have plenty of hungry players, everyone is trying to play. Problem is, nobody supports when the time comes.
The Reality of it is, most players in the NW put real life first. That is not a bad thing, but it doesnt help our scene. We just need a little more people putting the effort to drive a little 2 hour drive to support events and make them hype. We have a top tier media head called MikeSlash ready to put NW on the map if people can make things a little more hype by coming out.
All it takes is for everyone to start going to events again. I think we should start with Dec 4th, support LanFest and afk. After that, everyone should prepare for the dec 18th tourneyplay gig in portland. Every single one of these events should push at least 50…“IF” you NW PLAYERS just ATTEND!!!

ps - Its crazy snow over here at the AfroDOJO. If it clears out by Thanksgiving, I hope to see some kats over!
It may not save the scene, but if you think the dormant players won’t come out and play then you are quite wrong. Chances are you haven’t seen me at an event in months. That is because everything happens on the weekends during the daytime now which is when I work. TW happened at night so I could make it. Dojo tournies happened on Thursday so I could make most of those.
If Seattle does indeed get 2 setups (GW and Acme) you better believe I will be at either of those venues M-F. If you don’t think others will be there, then you are mistaken. Nothing can emulate an arcade atmosphere.
Cole the reality is we don’t have consistant weekly anything. Thursday night fights was aweosme but you guys couldn’t provide that venue on that consistancy any longer which is understandable. Having a 60 man tournament every month is a great thing and I’m not saying don’t do that. If anyone is down to travel it’s me. What I’m concerned about is the fact that we have nothing really inbetween these events. No one is really that hungey. I open my place up and only 1 out of the five days it was open did I get any amount of people. I saw FUCKIN ZERO people from the south come up yet I am more than willing to drive to Sammaish and Seattle WHENEVER there is a session/tournamnent and I can remotly make it. Cole Ima slap some sense into your head. You’ve had all these plans and so far we don’t have something consistant.
I’m looking for something simple. It doesn’t have to be conplicated or convoluted but a simple consitant spot for in depth casuals on a weekly basis. Talking to people in Cali that consistantly place top 8 at majors I learned what they do. They have a schedual and they want to get better. They don’t do anything fancy they just get together and do some serious causals and look at each other and help each other out. They do this often to keep each other sharp and have a healthy competition come local and major tournament time. Also rivals. Everyone needs a rival to balance them out and really challenge each other to get better. I feel like if he’s still playing that person is Conner for me. I can never say I will lose or beat him in a tournament for sure. This is a good thing. My rival was Riki, now, not so much.
Plans without action. This is why we get demo’d by out of state players. I like this tavern idea. If this could become a consistant thing that’d be dope. Hopefully we would bring in enough buisness to make it worth your while.
Arcade won’t save the scene but it will get the lazy people who think they’re good to come out and get slightly better. It’ll be better for all around improvement with more variety of players to play with a 1$ on the line when you play and people watching makes the pressure good practice too. It will def help. The sene isn’t going to die nor does it need saving it just needs better players/hungrier players in it.
My plcae will also re-open on sunday with my roomate leaving again.
So I’m not sure if I’m gonna get burned for saying this, but Terrance was pushing a WEEKLY gathering at PlaySmart for a while. Only a 5$ venue fee (for a pretty sick venue) and then $5 for a buy in IF you all wanted a tournament. If not then it’s just a 4 hour casual session for $5.
He just stopped because of the weak turnout but if a weekly casual gathering is something you guys think we should have, then maybe we can get him to open it back up. $5 isn’t bad for 4 hours.
I think you guys are totally right about the benefit of a weekly session, so why don’t we try this??
honestly tounries aren’t the main focus. Locals are good for keeping competiton in check but really we all need to just play each other more IN PERSON. I would go down to Tacoma Mall tournies if I didn’t have class but really you guys are hella deep and at a hard time for alot of people. Good stuff just inconvienient. Really we just need people to want to get better and not just better but want to be the best.
Soooo…who’s going to what? Because I’m not actually driving to Everett (sorry) and if peeps don’t go to lanfest, I’ll just chill.
Also, I don’t play because I don’t have anybody to play with. I care about how I do in tournaments, therefore, I’m not gonna enter any if I’m not in practice. The first thing I do when I get online is see who’s playing SF, and most of the time it’s peeps either playing a different game or people playing ranked by themselves. So in reality, Carlos is right.
It never hurts to send a msg, I’d rather do 1 on 1 endless than spend 5 minutes trying to find a match in ranked just to end up losing to a laggy bison…
Agreed. You can always hit me up Deezo. I’d rather play Endless and learn something than play 1 ranked match.
I’m always down to play tekken.
So I created a new official thread for the tournament, but I did want to clear up one thing.
I wanted to apologize to gameclucks for the way I said stuff. While I appreciate everything Chris is doing to help the community I do not personally agree with his pricing structure for events. I’m not opening this up for discussion I’m just making it clear I have my personal opinion about the subject and I’m not trying to say gameclucks & chris suck or anything.
I also wanted to clarify I’m not trying to start some sort of real life fight with chris, I said we can talk about it in person because I would rather not fuel the internet drama flames.
As for hating on the lan party, I dont like Big Corporations, and Intel is no exception. While they claim to donate proceeds to charity, I can find no record of any donation by intel to Childs Play, and I have yet to see any Big Corporation actually do anything for free out of the goodness of their heart.
BUT! I’m not saying I do not support the event, any event that gives us a chance to gather and play is great. Once again its just my personal distrust and opinion of Intel. By all means I encourage everyone who cannot make it out to Everett to attend the lanfest.
Also Cole and I would like to both apologize for double booking the event, Cole suggested the 4th, I didnt double check for a conflict and here we are.
So in summary sorry for being a jackass and I hope to see all of you at the AFK Tavern.
AFK and events
Howdy
So for what its worth I just got done with a HUGE party there for about 40ish cats and I found out some things that might help you out
1 If you can give them a guaranteed sales amount they will hook you up with some spiffy things, like being able to permanently have a banner on the entry arch by the bar and console area
2 the kitchen will work with you on a catering menu of munchies and the bartenders will make custom mix drinks for your group at a permanent special price
3 its kinda nice to have a dedicated server and a bartender covering your group
Oh wow, so you were there last night, so was I. That was a pretty cool party.
If people post up on the new official thread for the tournament, I’ll send over a list to the owner and see if they can do anything extra for us. But I need to get a count of how many people are coming.
3 dollar hennessy, some sort of draft beer for 2 dollars, and 40oz pbr or some other kinda trash beer for 5 bucks and we’re good
This is going to be problematic as AFK dose not carry PBR. They do have “Orc Piss” that can be negotiated on but they sell it by the “pounder” or 16oz glass. As far as the 3 dollar shot, we would have to guarantee a fairly large sales amount "as in two to three grand, and they hold onto somebody’s card kind of guarantee. Now they do have about a dozen taps on hand. I bet we can set up a price break on one of em so we should be good there. But hey they are giving the space for free, as well as the screens and such so we help em out by buying food and such from them, and remember to tip the girls out so we can have the run of the joint when we want
yeah somebody else should work the drink specials out besides me. i dont even know when and how often ill even come out there
LOL, Jacob always trying to get the hook up.
I think things are just fine where they are right now, price and quality are as good or better than BW.
We’ll work about specials and the sort once we see how things go, I’m just happy to have a cool place with cool owners and staff who are interested in letting us do our thing.
Its all good in the hood, got the info that the new events guy is going to be there tonight around 9ish as well as Thursday to Sunday. His entire job is to hook up groups with specials and things. Look for a large fuzzy guy near the bar in a duster. The guys name is Martin, and let him know that Elements Rook sent you in to hook you up (were kinda tight, and he owes me)
im just a nigga that likes hennessy. i bet the beer is better at afk than bw though haha
