Eurogamer interviews Daigo + Capcom-Unity follow-up

and for mvc2, shit gets intense

that exact same thing used to piss me off a lot. this Daigo, Justin, Tomo worship. it still pisses me off. but dick riders ride dicks, tourney players play tourneys.

You can’t make a dick rider into a tourney player; they care more about riding dicks than they do being any good at anything. let them.

cause it conflicts with your idea of Daigo or somethin…?

Pretty much.

I mean, they said he’s tall!

SF4 sucks, and Daigo knows it, deal with it :stuck_out_tongue:

Seth posted about it on the Unity blog here.

Also, it’s very unlikely that anything was lost in translation. The girl asking the questions and translating his answers is one of Daigo’s closest Japanese friends. This probably explains his frankness too.

Alright, someone has got to say it…

Daigo is NOT immortal at playing Street Fighter. He’s great, but not worth riding…

The US has and will continue to do well in SF comp. I don’t like him talking down on US comp.

He just shat on all of you and you STILL want to ride on him?

I support US comp all the way.

We don’t have LOT of gaming luxeries japan has and we still manage to kick butt.

I have played internationally and im not good, but I must admit… I hold it down when I can and try to show that the US is still ill.

I just don’t like someone bragging the way he did in the article and taking shots at the red, white and blue…

I don’t care what anyone says…

Im 100% sure SOMEONE in the US can beat him.

Japanese people are humble. Daigo was just reiterating his thoughts and observations, positive and negative. They do not tie them in to their own personal status or ego when saying these things.

We are used to people making indirect or subliminal cusses about their rivals in the West by making seemingly innocuous negative observations to boost themselves up. That’s not really how the Japanese are culturally.

Would be no different to the national Tennis champion of some secluded nation turning up to play Roger Federer with a wooden racket and him thinking to himself ‘there’s no way I can lose to this guy, look at that hunk of crap he’s swinging!’.

Yes, he couldn’t say anything resembling trash talking… because, genetically and culturally Japanese are incapable of doing such a thing. I HAVE lived in japan. All I can say is, I have met several Japanese that trash America all day long. Japanese modesty is just a case of not saying shyt, until they are alone with the right people… I knew this Japanese dude that would rip people apart in private, but would be all smiles when they came around…

I was also skeptical about the legitimacy of the interview, but if S-kill says it’s legit, that’s good enough for me.

That said, it’s a very informative and entertaining article. His older sister is responsible for getting him into video games is a wild notion to me.

I wonder what sort of questions he was asked to elicit some of those answers. I remember them asking him after the Gamestop interview about who his biggest threat in Japan was and he said he didn’t know. In this interview though he specifically talks about younger players. Sounds like the interviewer really drilled him for an answer. I think he tried to avoid talking about his peers, so the interviewer might have asked him if he thinks there’s a “Daigo killer” out there in the newer generation of players.

Kill him! Kill the non-believer!:arazz:

The way I read that line is that Japan has an advantage over the US, which is true.

That does not mean the US has no chance, but it would be as hard as a Japanese MLB player trying to win the MVP in America.

People are vastly overreacting to what he said.

motivating stuff…makes me believe that if I apply smarts/wit and combine it with practice, i too can become a champion…

Nice, S-Kill is gonna post more questions on monday pertaining to SB4 and console characters. I wonder if he had anything to say about Sanford’s cammy after the team tournament.

I like it when Amreekans complain about people trash talking.

I like to imagine Daigo reading this thread with his translator buddy, laughing at all your ineptitudes. I also like to imagine him wearing a cape and mask because he talks like a comic book villain.

I find it strange that some people don’t like what he said about American joysticks. He was just relating the thoughts he had about America when he was 16. That was more than 10 years ago.

Good read…

Daigo is pretty hard to beat in a long set with ryu…for sure.

Gimme my 3 rounds in the ring with Daigo and then you guys can all take turns riding MY nethers. :wgrin:

seth and his crappy beard are top tier

Still true. 90% of learning to DP back in the day was in trying to find the fucking diagonal on those piece of shit 360 sticks. Although, the buttons were nice, especially during the VS era; having concave buttons made it much more comfortable to slap out super damage with one’s dick.

Also, there’s a difference between arrgance and simply not being pointlessly self-deprecating. This understanding tends to come with actually knowing what the fuck you’re talking about, so it’s not surprising that the concept is lost on some of you.
