Eternal Fighter Zero

To be honest, at first I thought EFZ looked derivative because of that and over time I just stopped noticing because it does play totally different than the originals.

Still needs a voice patch, though. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I thought that was part of what made it good; the fact that it could be taken seriously as a fighter, and pay homage to the fighters that helped made it what it is, and still have an original feel to it.

Truth be told, I hardly play EFZ, despite how good of a game it is; I mostly marvel at the insane amount of replays that I gathered from a particular Japanese site. I donā€™t have the link with me, but chances are that I might be able to get it sometime next week.

Iā€™m starting to get into EFZ bigtime because the latest MBR is sucking badly. The sucking part might change in the future, but EFZ has better flow as wellā€¦ somethingā€™s always happening in a fight and if youā€™re not attacking youā€™re defending or setting up your shit.

The juggle system makes no linear sense, but it works once you wrap your mind around it. I hope Touhou will be as goodā€¦

So, Mizuka, my current character: does she have anything more than corner juggle loop and note spamming?

Itā€™s pretty hard to not have similar moves with different characters. Take a character from the game Iā€™m working on. She has a diagonal gliding run, like Morrigan, I-no and the winged girl from EFZ. She summons up to two little hearts that move like a ā€œLittle Faustā€, but are used as a more Venom or Dizzy-like rushing tool, to help her weak ground game, but the timing is crucial. She also has a super like Marrowā€™s towering spikes.

She got the most annoying standing A and jump C of the game. Her 236236 super is an excellent antiair assuming you it is not RCed. Her 623B used to be a great antiair and wake up move, but got toned down in 3.10. EX version wallslams so you may do something afterwards. EX 236 has very good startup invincibility. I think j. B crossups.

I still donā€™t know how to use her hidden super effetively.

Hidden super? You mean the time freeze super?

Hit someone back a good distance (using 623+C would be good, because of it wallslamming), then immediately input the command. At least, thatā€™s how I saw it done.

Well, if you REALLY wanted some insanely creepy voices/music in EFZ , I could try and give you my homebrew onesā€¦ but the whole thing was made just for fun you know.

I understand your position thoughā€¦ as long Ayu keeps the Uguu~

Well, I suppose it could be possible to find the material for voice patches.

There is the Kanon anime, the Kanon voiced version, the AIR voiced version, the AIR anime is coming out, and there are drama CDs of ONE, Kanon and AIR (dunno about MOON).

Now, who wants to dish out the money to get them?

I will, as soon as you give me a source for Nayuki droning out ā€œNayu-chan kiiiikuā€¦ zzzzzzā€¦ā€

And you canā€™t forget Misuzuā€™s Gao~~ either.

EDIT: On that note, whatā€™s the significance of Misuzuā€™s hidden super where she stumbles towards you in pajamas and the screen says ā€œGOOOAL!ā€ if you connect? If itā€™s a spoiler, donā€™t tell me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Vman, whereā€™s that trailer you were talking about? Want to get that corner stuff down.

Iā€™ve somewhat got the hang of 66+C, j.B, dash+j.B, land, 5.C, repeat.

;D

Chibi: hereā€™s the page of the creators. You should be able to find the trailer somewhere: http://kaoru.sppd.ne.jp/statice/

The Mizusu super is definitively a reference to AIR. I asked a Japanese friend what the text says and it was something related to ā€˜happy dreams becoming trueā€™ or something (AIRā€™s theme is summer and dreams). Donā€™t remember much right now.

Wow, that did some heavy damage, and itā€™s relatively easy to do.

2.C, IC, 241+C, 9, 2, and then 2.C x 4 I think?, 5.C, whatever.

Haha, thanks for the help Vman!

Unfortunately, no. My efz is soo pirated. I guess I was lucky to find that shitload of replays zipped on the cd, too.

Currently learning Minagi. Since eddie is rapist tier in gg, Iā€™m putting all my money on michiru.

Iā€™m currently playing as Misakiā€¦ love that standing C attack. Got some really nice combos so far, but Iā€™m still learning anti-character specifics as well as getting good at setting up the combos from anywhere.

A few things thoughā€¦

With Sayuri, how do you do the Genocide Cutter? Iā€™ve seen the AI do it a number of times, and to me it looks like some sort of auto-counter.

Secondā€¦ whatā€™s the deal with Reversals, and more specifically, throws? I always feel like I should be able to wake up into a throw (like Guilty Gear), but I always simply seem to get hit out of my atempt, and my character does nothing (I donā€™t even see a whiff animation). What are the rules on throws (startup time and such) and waking up? I wouldnā€™t expect anyone to know exactly how the frames work, but any rules on what you can and canā€™t do would be helpful.

Throws donā€™t have much range, but they are a good way to counter whiffed/blocked moves without the risk of Recoil Guard cancel.

Reverals are not that easy to do, since there are a lot of beefy attacks in the game. For a succesful reversal you need a move that has decent startup invincibility, such as Misakiā€™s EX Assault Gush (214).

Magical Blade (Genocide Cutter) has two steps: first, you need to counter a move. Then, whenever you block the move you countered Sayuri will flash. If you press an attack button, Sayuri will counter with Magical Blade.

Huge spoiler, trust me. >_>

Thereā€™s a move that, when performed, looks like Sayuriā€™s whiffing a throw. (Iā€™m not sure of the movement, but I should be able to tell you tomorrow, if I have Internet.) Use it to intercept an opponentā€™s attack, and sheā€™ll throw them. Counter the same attack (Sayuri flashes white), and sheā€™ll do her ā€œMagical Bladeā€.

Edit: Arse, VMan beat me to it. ā€¦ and I messed up on the having to do a movement before pressing the attack button. :stuck_out_tongue:

I figured I was probably missing the throw because of range and not timing (Iā€™ve got plenty of practice Reversaling moves). I wasnā€™t sure if throws could be reversaled (like GG) or not (like 3S). Unfortunately, I canā€™t really find out for certain because I canā€™t get FRAPS to record in the game.

Wake-up throw isnā€™t worth the effortā€¦

So anything for Kaori?

Probably not, but being able to reversal throw would be helpful in a pinch.

HOWEVER, I downloaded the new FRAPS and so now I can record ingame again. However, I canā€™t find a V-Sync option for the game, so Iā€™m only able to record alternating frames (uhg).

What I managed to pull about throws (at least for Misaki) was that I was getting either 2 or 3 frame startup on the throw. From this I believe I can infer that throws have 5F of startup. Thatā€™s pretty darn heafty, even longer than 3S throws.

As VMan said, throws seem to pretty much be good for RG punishments and mind games. Tick throws are pretty hard to do, although Iā€™m not sure yet if you can buffer the throw during the throw-invunerable period or if you get a C instead (I know you can buffer ahead with the few command throws). Guess Iā€™ll investigate into that and the throw-invincibility after guard stun as well.
