Shiori’s juggles are easy, just a bit hard to get used to. Rather quick too.
I think Misaki is a rather easy girl to pick up too.
Oh my that didn’t sound right at all.
;D

You’ll find the more complicated your combos get, the more problems they have going between characters. You’ll have to figure out where in the combo the factors are that you can varry… usually timing things faster/slower or adding more hits, or taking some out.
As for whoring out A attacks… yeah that’s pretty much what I had to rely on when I tried doing Ikumi VS AI. She doesn’t seem to have very good pokes (all of her moves are really short), so I’d try and find out which of her specials are unpunishable. And… spam the tornado. Seriously, it’s her best move. ;p
As for a new easy character… Makoto is pretty easy. She’s got a standard DP, universal overhead, a bunch of projeciles, and some pretty good supers. Kaori is really easy to pick up, as she only has 3 moves… and then you just need to pick up dash canceling and the pretty simple rushdown.
I disagree with spamming tornados especially the close ones. At best you reset the match, which may or may not be good for Ikumi. At worst, which happened a couple of times against that Mai AI, they go through it with invincibility or RG and punish your recovery. I wonder what an Ikumi would do if Sayuri caught a c.A or whatever Ikumi pokes most with? =p
Well, I didn’t mean “spam” like using it carelessly. It’s a very good move, but it’s going to have it’s problems like any other. The ideal is to hit the person with it when they get up, and hopefully setup for a small juggle into knockdown. Far range versions are probably better for that, as it doesn’t matter if you are far away with Ikumi (she runs so fast).
If Sayuri catches almost any of your favorite pokes, you tend to get fucked. Mishio can usually poke from far enough away that the Genocide Cutter will miss… but I have no idea what Ikumi could do (other than just throwing the whole match).
Mio gets off lucky, as she just has so many things she can poke with.
Edit: Bell, looks like there are at least 8 characters in Touhou. Scarlet and Yuuyuu appear to be in the game, although they may just be bosses.
Greetings from Mexico!
Just a quick request for people: if you are going to record in AVI a replay of someone else, please
Lina: I will reply with feedback when I come back home.
3% battery… gotta go
VMan: Two of the replays up in /doujinsoft/eternal fighter zero are from the batch of replays earlier in this thread which you emailed me, so I have no idea where they’re from. I think it’s from that BBS with all the replays, but damned if I know which post it was. The rest of them have just been me and Gwyrgyn fucking around.
Gwyrgyn: I don’t doubt there’ll be much more than just 8, but that’s good news to hear regardless.
Tornado spamming is bad if you’re not sure they’ll hit, i.e. using them to hit upon wakeup. I try to use it only within combos or blocked poke strings without openings, or to throw one up in front of them so that it’ll hit them out of whatever invincibility they have if they use an EX move. I think Ikumi’s better suited to rush myself due to her great run, with tornadoes thrown in for zoning every so often but not as an integral part of her offense; the fact that they deal shitty damage doesn’t help.
Gonna play around with Mizuka a bit more later… I think that now that I’ve got a better handle on the system I can probably use her more effectively, not to mention that braindead dust loop/air C junk she has…
Ikumi seems pretty hard to play, to me. As mentioned, per pokes generally suck… and rushing down is pretty dangerous in this game. Even worse, she can’t jump cancel her 663C if it’s blocked (that would have been helpful).
On the upside, her tick throw setups are very good, and get her a ton of blood. Unfortunately, the AI just hates getting thrown. ;p
I just realized this, but is my gal Misuzu from Air?
O_O
Misuzu, Kano, and Minagi are indeed the Air girls. Gao.
What happened to your girl Mishio?
I didn’t like her mobility and dependancy to land that 623 move.
;p
Yet another clip. The last one kinda sucked. I’m pretty pleased with how I fare in this one, no real reliance on any one move except maybe tornado (and that’s a good thing). Because Ayu is shaped all weird, I can’t really do Ikumi’s huge combos on her.
I’m beginning to think that to really be effective you have to learn her double dash 2C IAD C combo, and the timing on that is just so bitchtacularly hard. Bleh. It’s difficult squeezing more than 2500 damage out of a combo with her unless you’re spaced just right. At least she can control the match decently once she gets going.
VMan, I demand feedback on mine too.
Not doing too bad actually. A lot of what you need is still just learning the best thing you can do off any setup, but again, that’s something you’ll get just from playing for a while. There MUST be something better you can do off that command grab at mid screen.
Also, I know you tried to setup a big combo near the end (in the corner)… but only had the HIC meter. It’s usually not worth trying to setup big damage off an HIC… as you don’t get any juggle reset or damage boost (which is why you are probably having so much trouble landing hits after that 663C). Usually, HIC’s are best for HFICs, or when there’s some move with an odd effect that you can utilize with a cancel (I’m big on saving up meters though).
However, there will always be some situation where you’ll need just that extra bit of damage… so from that setup on Ayu, you can do this:
A B C > 236A HIC > 663C > jc.A A C > Land > j.A A B C > jc.A B C
That’s for 3400 damage, which isn’t bad for an HIC.
The #2 and #3 combos I posted both work on Ayu, although you’ll have to play with the timing a little.
heh
I found a combo that can get about 300-500 more damage off that same position (full IC, no super, back to corner)…
i feel happy for my small acheivements
i can’t do it very well on a keyboard though, so I don’t have a replay =\
hey! Useless genocide combo!
iad.B-C, land, C -> 236B(3hits), A-B-C -> 236B(3hits), A-B-C -> 236B(3hits)(genocide wears off), 4123641236C
:party:
edit: 1) I may have missed it somewhere in this topic but… how do I record a replay?
2) how the heck are you people playing this on a keyboard?! I wish my stick would work with this game =(
I’m just using fraps to capture the results into an .avi, then using VirtualDub to compress them down. And I have a Saitek rumble pad. ^^; I honestly don’t think I can pull off EFZ-style combos on a kbd. MBR, maybe…
I use a convertor and a Hori stick, also using FRAPS to record.
I hadn’t noticed you could combo of the Level-3 236B with A… that’s pretty neat. But the timing sure is hard.
Also Bell, I had the starts of a combo off the command throw at mid screen, but I couldn’t actually manage to do it myself (I suck at IADing). The idea was:
41236C > 66B FIC > 662C > IAD j.B 66 A B 66 B C…
But I couldn’t get the IAD off right, so I couldn’t figure out if it actually continues to go or not (looks like it would). Maybe you’d have better luck than I did.
damn
alright, finally nailed this shit with my keyboard, goddamn…
<insert much swearing hear>
the combo is basically the japanese dust loop, but with iad’s to push it really far, so it can be done at fullscreen:
2A-2A-2B-C -> 236A -> FIC, 663C -> iad.C, land, 66…3C -> iad.C, land, j.A-B-C, dj.A-B-C
does around 5K.
Yeah, I know of the Japanese double dash 2C loop. I just can’t do it because the execution is tough, so I’m half-assing my way through by doing easier, lesser-damage combos.
i figured this out on my own o.O
before I saw the jap vids (through this thread)…
I saw that vid where minagi does multiple dashing attacks to keep juggling… when it was posted, then saw your first ikumi vid (since I didn’t know you could JC the 663C), and put 2 and 2 together ^^;
didn’t know it was how those other guys did it till I saw the vid for myself o.O;;
haha, 236A -> FIC to 66B -> command grab is hilarious.
Well, that is the setup I’ve seen used in every J-Ikumi replay ever. ^^;
note: i’ve never seen an entire match of any friggin jap players. the stupid links on the first page don’t lead me to any damn downloads. I’ve only seen the “clip” that someone here made that illustrated different jap combo setups for ikumi.
sorry, just a bit bitter than everyone else can see the cool jap vids and I can’t :sad:
