You install it and after rebooting it will check out every program running on your startup. After that you can choose to disable useless stuff like the Winamp agent or Adobe’s auto updater to make your PC boot faster and have a lot less gunk running in the background…

You can use Soluto to check which programs boot up, and how long they take to boot up. It breaks down the programs by which ones you can disable without issues, which ones you can potentially disable, and ones that can’t be disabled. Soluto also lets you disable browser add-ons, and tracks which programs crash and what can be done about it.

VirtualDub can do screen recording with threaded encoding. Not exactly the most elegant for games, but it’s Free Software and it doesn’t limit your time nor put a nag somewhere.

Fraps alternatives tend to be:
Bandicam
Gamecam
Xfire Recorder (ew, xfire)
