I say English. I like understanding what they say. When I see/hear fighting in japanese, I just stare and wonder what’s actually happening. (This is going to offend people)
Anyway, Kanji’s english voice is the best English VA. Troy Baker sounded like he had fun.
English both out of preference and for being the language where teenage girls properly sound like women instead of prepubescent girls. Rapture dynamite Loki.
Personally, I think language should be selectable per character every time you play, in ANY fighter. So you pick a character, then next is color/ISM/whatever/language. English Yukiko vs. Japanese Yukiko is completely possible. Like color.
I’m using English because thats how I got to know them.
I also prefer some Japanese voices, but I like the english ones overall.
Troy Baker as Kanji is the best one though, can’t listen to the japanese one at all
English for this game. And Blazblue. And any game where I can choose. I PUT MUH THERE FU KING KAZUYA IN ENGLISH IN SFXT!! I WATCH ALL MY ANIME IN ENGLISH, EVEN THE PRE 00S STUFF WITH THE SHITTY DUBS!! I’M NOT EVEN JOKING!! YOU STILL WANNA COME AT ME, SIS?!
Because you know exactly what Teddie sounds like in Japanese? Couldn’t possibly sound like a Japanese Mickey Mouse? Also if you wanted to be more hip, you’d refer to him as Kuma so you could have a little bit more air of pretentiousness.
"Undub projects are so awesome!"
If you specialize in being mentally handicapped, sure.
Again, you could, you know, -buy- a Japanese PS2. -Buy- the Japanese game.
Oh but you’re going to undub and have already localized American dialogue running along the bottom. Fucking …brilliant.
My big issue with the sub kids is their ignorance. みつる、ミツル、満、くま、熊, or hell, (ペルソナ, this probably doesn’t ring a bell to half the people in here clicking “jp” without babelfishing or googling it, yet “preference” is Japanese.
"But that’s the way it originally was intended. you wouldn’t watch the Simpsons in Japanese!"
A legacy made by both national and famous VAs =| a Japanese anime that half the time originates in manga.
In the case of Persona being a game, I still don’t care that its set in Japan. Anime suffers from severe westernization, much like Japan itself. I can understand watching a period piece like a Jidaigeki or an actual Toriyama film, in which real live actors are usually the basis for their characters, but nitpicking about regional preferences over a fucking piece of animation is childish, especially when you don’t know the language.
"I KNOW SOME!"
If you can’t hold a full blown conversation with a man from Okinawa who has a very strong southern dialect anymore than you could from a female from Otsu you don’t have a right to critique the acting quality of the Japanese medium. That especially includes praise.
Basically, I think anime lines spoken in English, no matter how brilliantly (or in some cases, terribly) acted make people realize how stupid the dialogue is. Put it in a foreign tongue and its silver. “OH BUT I CAN SAY BAKA, AND WAKARIMA…SEN”
Good for you. Get off your high chair and don’t bash your own native language because your ignorance of another.
Mostly using Japanese whenever it’s possible, I hate dubbing just like many other people seem to do as well. Dubs never sound right.
Still, games are pretty much the only place where you can change the language and actually enjoy it to some degree, unlike anime or other shows where dubbing is pure self-torture.
so you determine your likings due to other people?
pity you.
and there is trash everywhere. quantity brings that with it. You don’t “watch movies / listen to music / play games” because most of it is trash then as well right?
It depends on the game. If stuff like “Over here!” and “Not this time!” gets repeated every 3 seconds, then probably Japanese. If theres actual effort in the Eng voices and its not out of place (Like English Ryu) then English. I very briefly owned BB, and played that in English.
