Hello, my name is Romeo. I run these tournaments. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Where
The City Coffeehouse
8235 Laguna Blvd# 180
Elk Grove, CA 95758
Drinks are pretty good and prices are decent, and the area is fairly spacious. Also, many regulars here claim that the Vietnamese sandwiches are top tier. I’d personally recommend the buffalo chicken wrap, but… I digress :D.
It’s in the same area as Red Robins.
Game area is a bit cramped if everyone’s watching, but it’s not too uncomfortable. Free WiFi for you laptop/iPhone people.

Rules
-All characters allowed
-Double elimination format - 2/3 rounds, 2/3 matches.
-Grand finals will be 2/3 rounds, 3/5 matches
-If a player loses a match in a set, they can change their character
-$7 entry fee - 5 to the pot, 2 to the venue
-70/20/10 payout
-Two PS3 setups
-BYOS

For those who have come here from a flyer…

Spoiler

Hello, all who have come here from the previous SFIV flyer.

Seeing as how we are now in a SUPER era, I have some new plans on keeping everyone informed of anything worth mentioning regarding the Sacramento SFIV scene. Stay tuned here and the Sacramento thread -I post anything regarding my own tournaments there, and am working on a 916 area site.

Some of you may have come here from flyers you found on the floor, at a coffeehouse, a boba place, your friend’s car, or received from me at a tournament/random place/the midnight release for SSFIV at the Strawberry Creek Gamestop on Bruceville Road. Seeing as how you’re reading this now, I hope to welcome you into the SFIV scene here in Sacramento, and, hopefully, introduce you to the larger fighting game scene as a whole. I have been lucky to have made many friends and, surprisingly, a few potentially useful and helpful contacts (mostly unrelated to video games), and hope that the same luck will find you all.

If you want to contact me personally, you can always PM me and ask me for my number. One of the first steps to joining the community is joining SRK - shoryuken.com. This is where you can read up on strategies, find out about events and gatherings in your area, and generally discuss and talk to people who share the common thread of liking fighting games. Another very important step is to come out to any community events in Sacramento, such as sessions, tournaments, and gatherings - none of which explicitly require any money (except for perhaps tourneys, but you can still come early and play casuals and watch for free).

Lastly, don’t be intimidated by anything you see/hear about on SRK. Oftentimes, it’s all in good fun, and when it’s not, you can ignore the negativity anyway. Don’t let a few bad apples ruin the bunch - in other words, don’t sweat it. Trust me when I say that the community is full of awesome people who simply want to enjoy fighting games with others.

Just come out and play! That’s usually how the spark starts.

Again, check here, e-mail 916sfiv@gmail.com (I am the sole owner/reader of that account), and the Sacramento thread for any updates.

I look forward to seeing you all in the future.

-Romeo

Good shit, like the idea, I’m in. Post this in the reviving sac town thread.

Great, great, will do… come on everyone, let’s hear your ideas!

4-8 is pretty early. Davis’ weekly starts at 4 and as a result we only get locals.

Thanks for the input Mike. I could talk to the proprietor, but I don’t really want to impose. Of course, he says he could use the business, so I may be able to negotiate with him a bit. I don’t want to get too deep in discussions with him yet, though, if this thing is never going to happen - it would be a letdown for both parties involved.

Keep those suggestions coming, people!

im down for this wear is the place tho y u makn it seem like a mystery? can we use stiks? 7 bux seems fine but its such a odd number lol maybe 5 bux 3 for pot 2 for venue the 1st cuple turneys tiol it grows? u dnt wanna stray ppl away

You’re right - sorry, I have no idea why I didn’t tell you guys the place o___o. It’s called “The City” and it’s by Red Robins on Laguna Blvd. It used to be called Port City Java, so some of you guys might know it. I was thinking 7 dollars because Munchies is 7 and people didn’t seem to mind, but you make a great point. 5 dollars seems a lot better. Regarding sticks, yes, I see no reason why players couldn’t use sticks. BUT - if your stick is not dual modded, be prepared to ask someone to borrow one. At Munchies, this was no problem, as lots of people had sticks and were willing to loan it for a match, but seeing as how I have no idea who the player base would consist of, I can’t really say much more without knowing more. When in doubt, get your stick dualmodded - but if you can’t, arrangements probably can be made. I myself need to get my PS3 TE dualmodded, but, again, we can deal with those issues when the time comes.

Updated and thanks very much for the suggestions!

LOL, i go to this place during lunch. when i went i kept thinking “wow they could pull off a munchies tourney here”.

I’d like to go to this tourney but I doubt I’d be able to if it’s on weekdays. Randy, me, skrnboy and vasaznion all live in eg and sac but we’re usually busy early in the day. If it started later it’d be a bigger possibility.

Sou ne… seems like the time is a big factor. Alright, I’m going to talk to him when I get the opportunity. Thanks for the input, Matt

I would probably try and go every other week. Likewise I don’t get free time till ~6. I would say Thursday is a decent day but it conflicts with munchies, but I did have ~15 show at my house for a get together @ around 7. Maybe Tuesdays? Many active members in sac seem to have conflicting schedules.

saturday plz

sick. stockton making the trip forsure.

I’d definitely show up on saturdays unless it conflicted with big tourneys (64man +).

As we can see, time seems to be a huuuge issue. Thursday doesn’t seem good, because it conflicts with Munchies. Early in the day may be a no go for people who have work/school (especially summer school - they don’t mess around with absences). Likewise, early in the week may not be good because people have work/school the next day. How are Fridays for people? Saturdays seem like they’d be great, but unfortunately, they close at 5pm x_x. The more and more people post, the more and more it seems that the time is a big issue.

I’ll try to talk to Howard (the owner) tomorrow - I’ll see what I can come up with. He might not mind closing later one day of the week if it means good business.

Saturday seems like a good day because it doesn’t (usually) conflict with other tourneys and provides an opportunity for people to come despite their busy school/work schedules. The only issue is the closing time…

I’ll talk to Howard about this.

I can vouch for at least 3 people from the Yuba City area that would make it most likely every week. Also for around another 3 from Chico, which is 2 hours away from Sac. So, the interest is definitely there. The more frequent the better in my opinion, so I’d like to see a weekly. I could also definitely bring a TV and more than likely bring a 360 set up with two sticks. At least the two sticks. I’m hype already. Let’s get this started!

Wow, we’re catching fire guys… I’m going to try my best tomorrow!

start at 1pm on sat and it should be done by 5

I’m going to run it by him tomorrow. The time seems a bit tight, though - last Thursday, I believe Munchies went from approx 7:00 to 12:30 - about 5 1/2 hours for approx 30 competitors. Now, I don’t believe we’ll get that many every time, but I don’t want to make it a bad experience for either party - being kicked out due to closing, forcing whomever’s working to stay longer than they expected, etc. But I will definitely try to pitch some of our timeslot ideas and look for any and all alternatives.
