How to beat Hugo:
1:st.MP
2:do another st.MP
3:???
4: $PROFIT!$
A fast, 2-hit normal that will beat out body splash unless he does it on your wake up. At least Guile, Juri, and Gouken have to do specials to make him nearly unplayable lol

Armour Cancel U2 is too damn hard
Focus cancel U1 might have some uses, but don’t bother with it at all for U2.
All you’re doing is subtracting the damage of whatever you focus from the amount that you heal (60-70HP).
It’s also punishable as hell, since absorbing a projectile leaves the opponent free to throw another one. You’re just asking them to hit you with an EX or Ultra.
Best ways to deal with Gen’s random Ultra 2 nonsense:
If you didn’t press anything:
If you pressed something but will recover in time to block:
Just a quick note about Oni: you can punish his f+HP on block from almost anywhere except maximum distance with cr HK.
Second that, I got completely destroyed yesterday. Couldn’t find a solution.
The thing that’s -3 on hit, right? Free spd for every st.mp, not a great plan. Any other idea?
St.MP destroys armor and beats out body splash. His massive size makes it nearly unavoidable for his jump arc. I mean, going and doing it point blank is a horrible idea, as with any other of Elena’s options, but it forces Hugo to make a ground approach on Elena. If he comes from the ground, he has to deal with slide and Mallet Smash as mixups on his way in. Big thing to note against Hugo is that your priority is a godsend in this fight; anything that reliably trades with Elena’s bread and butter tools is slow and/or easily countered.
Hugo’s sheer size creates problems for him. You can actually slide under his st.HP overhead like you would a projectile and punish the recovery if he armors through it. Additionally, cr.LP’s throwbox leads to some odd exchanges. At near max distance, doing cr.LP moves your throwbox out of LP SPD range.
Opinions on the Viper matchup? I don’t play any, but I know the crouching hurtbox changes may have altered that matchup dynamic.
So, what are considered Elena’s 3-5 worst match ups and why?
Rufus, Adon, Cammy would be my guesses. I used to think Seth, but Sako just bodied Poongko in a long set.
I’m learning this char specifically as a counterpick to rose. I think you guys have that matchup really wrong. It’s definitely not rose favor, possibly even 7-3 for elena
Rose can’t fireball at any range, even with U2 up. At full screen you slide, at mid screen ex rhino or sweep, up close punish on block.
In footsies, Elena matches Rose’s range but wins in damage output because rose has to be very careful about buffering spiral. Meanwhile, Elena can easily hitconfirm into combos or buffer with cr.mp into ex.overhead to get damage. You can beat rose st.rk by whiff punishing on reaction with cr.mp into ex.overhead into combo. Healing ultra offsets rose U2 and elena cr.jab makes it hard for rose to abuse neutral activated U2. Luffy losing 0-5 to xian’s elena is a good example of this. There are videos of Luffy playing high ranked elenas so he wasn’t totally new to the matchup (obv not xian’s level but still)
Any match up with a character with a fireball she can slide under is automatically 6 4 imo.
Rose is 6 4 MU because yeah if you play right you should win but that damage though!
Lol my friend is planning to switch from Gouken to Rose for the Elena match up. Now I feel kinda bad.
Gouken isbasically rose if you think about it I’m terms of predictable fireballs, damage output, footsies the only thing ride got us her BD but you can slide on reaction to that so he shouldn’t waste his time
So I was experimenting with how Rufus, Adon, and Cammy’s tools work on Elena.
-Cammy: FUCK THIS CHARACTER. I feel this is probably 3.5-6.5. Cammy out prioritizes her, and air throw+dragon punch makes jumping absolutely hopeless against her. Her dive kick has enough priority for the angle it comes from to make beating it from the ground very hard meterless. I do have one interesting piece of tech though: If you hit Cammy with a focus during the airborne part of cannon drill (this may require level 2), you can dash cancel forward and L/EX Scratch Wheel or Spinning Beat.
-Adon: Seems really annoying, but easier than Cammy. Depending on your position, instant air j.HP can beat out Jaguar Tooth.
-Rufus: Can someone who plays this match explain why it’s so bad? I’m not seeing what makes it really bad compared to Yun/Yang.
Cammy is not a bad MU it’s even. Her whole game is set ups if you knew which way to block then it’s not that bad and you can st l.p. her dive kicks.
Same with yun.
Why would you think yang is a bad MU?
Rufus is bad because she really doesn’t have an answer for insta dive kick and once he’s in it’s hard for her to get him off her without meter maybe your playing a bad Rufus.
I wanna know everyone’s thought on the Abel MU. I used to think it was even, until I got destroyed at winter brawl. Trying to stay outside of step kick range is hard enough, but sweep cancels are killer.
Abel doesn’t have a reliable reversal outside ex cod so why are you trying to zone / footsies him out? Be on his ass like white on rice and delay your wake up. Remember bk hk and st hk is unthrowable abuse it when he has no meter. If you look on abel forums you’ll see they hate this match up
I played Kreymore in a ft10 and he begs to differ. He believes that Abel can beat her clean. I tried to rush him down, play footsies, and even mix him up, and it all ends with me getting kicked in the face with step kick. I can rush down lesser Abel’s for sure, but at high level, it’s completely different.
