Sako, was that the guy who was playing Elena, lost spectacularly and then switched to Evil Ryu?
If so, then yeah, totally an Elena main. The proof is in the pudding.
Regardless, a player getting far with her thus far just proves that that player is very strong. I’ve still yet to see any support for Elena herself being strong. I’ve yet to see in any of these matches evidence that Elena as a character has an advantage over whatever character she is fighting against. The only thing going for her thus far is her wonky hurtbox, which might be enough to have her come out on top against Guy and Dan but I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference at all against high-level Viper players or anything like that. That’s literally her only advantage that I’ve seen thus far. Nothing else that she has is truly a character advantage, it’s just something that you can utilize if you get into your opponents head, if you can read their next move, if you as a player are better than your opponent.
There’s a first to ten between Valmaster and will2pac if you haven’t seen I suggest you watch it. If you have seen and you’re still spewing that crap then you’re full of it.
I don’t believe I said two Elena mains in top 32 at Evo and one in top 8. They strictly went Elena the whole tournament. First in regards to Sako I’ve seen 3 characters listed for him gen Elena and e ryu. When he lost vs fie long he switched to eryu. Changing a character for a bad MU gasp the nerve of sako. Sarcasm aside one guy said sako played Elena once that’d weird because I have 2 videos of Sako Elena in the video thread but that’s neither here nor there.
Jwong was the other Elena. We all know he plays her on the side. I’m not sure if you guys new this but wait for sagat is a bad MU for Rufus. So he switched to Elena and lost. I would of liked to see him use U2 but oh well. Which was winners who knows what happened off strram.
You guys are bugging seriously that’s two majors Elena has been represented at. Maybe just maybe the perspective needs to change…I’m not going to hold my breath.
…SMFH dude. You act like you her. How often do you win with her vs when you pick any other character? And great reference Sako who plays everyone, but mostly e Ryu and Ibuki. I guess Dee Jay must be a god since Da knut plays him and Cody is a legend since momochi played him for a while and got far with him. Nevermind the obvious character that Elena has faults my, nigga sako played her once twice. It’s like talking to prof jr…
What other matches did he play Elena in aside from that Guy match and the one where he switched to E.Ryu? Guy vs Elena, that’s easily a counter-pick due to hurtbox issues. Is that the only reason he played her there?
And as for JWong, I didn’t watch any pool matches due to work so all I got to see was him lose with Elena.
I’m watching the Val FT10 thing right now. Only thing I’m really seeing is A) Confirmation that Val is a great player (which I already knew since seeing him play SFxT) and B) Elena has some good advantages in the Poison and Viper matchup (which we all already knew) and C) People still don’t know how to punish this character properly. So many unsafe blocks and whiffs in the set just went unpunished. Even a god damn jab would have been better than nothing.
There were several times when Val would make reads that are damn near impossible to make. For example, doing a block string into H LT, having all of it blocked including the first hit of LT but not the second, then FADCing it and going into high damage combo/Ultra? WTF? That’s not a read a normal human can make. You have to be far beyond normal level to make that kind of a read and know it will pay off.
As for the other player, I think the set would have gone very differently if he just stuck with a character, preferably Viper as he was doing actual work with her. It’s bad enough that he didn’t punish anything properly, but when he switches characters every other match, he has to learn all over again what move will punish her whiffs. Several times he’d try to punish a whiff and then the punish would whiff because he’s having to re-learn the matchup on the fly. While a lot of Viper’s stuff doesn’t work on Elena - the stuff that does is still really powerful and I feel is still much better than Elena’s options.
Show me Val or any other dedicated Elena running a FT10 on a dedicated Yun, Yang, Rufus, Zangief, E.Ryu, Ken, Cammy, Akuma, Fei Long, etc.I bet the results would have been a lot different compared to fighting a dude constantly switching to characters he clearly doesn’t know even half as well as his mains just because he thinks they’ll be good counterpicks. Val might still win because he’s a damn good player, but he’s going to have a lot more trouble against someone who is confident in their character pick.
In a game as fiercely unbalanced as Marvel, you still have tournaments where characters like Iron Fist and Ghost Rider got first place, some of those long after the game had been out for just two months. Fuck, being in the Vampire Savior scene a bit, I’ve seen tons of tournaments won by characters like Anakaris and Jedah. No one is going to say those characters are top tier, or even good. They’re going to say that the players who got them that far are top tier.
It seems as though almost any normal will hit Elena out of her U1 before it gets into the animation. I correctly read a Dudley st.hp today and ultra’d only to have him do more damage to me than I did to him. Very very annoying
Also, any tips for U1 after rhino horn? I cannot get the timing down
Some of you guys are making this stuff too personal. You can disagree without all this negativity. Stop trying to force people to share your opinion and getting pissed when they don’t agree.
U1 isn’t great to blow through stuff, as you saw, due to it losing invincibility when it becomes active, it’ll trade with anything still out there after it’s 9 startup frames. I am starting to come around to liking U1 a bit more lately, it’s great as an easy punish to baited reversals and such. Love baiting out and backdashing SPDs against grapplers and getting the easy U1 punish, it really has great range. I like to use it in the Bison matchup because it punishes EX Psycho Crusher on block pretty easily if you bait it out. Overall though, I still heavily prefer U2.
As for U1 after Rhino Horn… it’s a tough juggle, you just have to practice a lot. Make sure you release the buttons immediately after pressing them (next frame), so it essentially turns a one frame juggle window into a two frame window due to negative edge. Also, if you aren’t already aware of it, juggling u1 after Rhino Horn is very character specific, check Sprint’s huge post on the 2nd page of the Combo Thread.
On a more related note, Combofiend has announced that a bug fix patch is on the way with edition select coming to online but it looks like it will only fix hurtboxes and hitboxes not balance anything. Which means we can all agree that if Elena loses her wonky hurtbox and gets nothing in return she will become a worse charc overall. So yea that might happen. Here’s to hoping Capcom gives us a SS that doesnt whiff and a way to use the heavy moves without them whiffing so much. Maybe even more CH bonus on B+Hk who knows.
Because there’s a thread that Peter and few other capcom employees are aware of, which hascompilation of all the bugs; the few documented for Elena list the fact that she has no CH bonus and her hitboxes/hurtboxes are inconsistent. Which is exactly what the capcom tweet said they’d fix. =\
This coming from the fool who keeps defending Elena is good psshhh what a useless comment. I even said that she will become overall worse if she gets nothing in return and thats a possibility also Elena whiffing moves could easily be considered a fix not a buff it could just be an issue with wonky hurtboxes.
I think b.hk is the better move of the two hk moves in terms of blowing up lows, simply because it’s less likely to be beaten outright by a person crouch teching(why oh why capcom would you have a move that supposed to beat crouch techs still lose to crouch techs???) The main problem with b.hk is that it provides no counter hit bonus(another wtf) so you can never follow it up unless you’re playing against Chun or Elena. st.hk can be followed up on CH or without, but it tends to lose to mashed jabs and crouch techs moreso than b.hk. Even when you space it out it can still lose to both options. b.HK doesn’t have this problem if you space it out.
I still use st.hk moreso than b.hk simply because I find it more useful as a counter poke, especially against certain characters, I also tend to use it to try and blow up crouch techs online because a good 90% of people do not know how susceptible it is to a mashed jab or an early mashed crouch tech. Offline though…
Please fix this fucking character Capcom…I swear all the new characters except Posion and Decapre are fucked beyond belief.
If anyone can record some stuff for Eternal’s bug thread I’d greatly appreciate it. (Work called me in so I won’t be able to).
Elena 1st hit of DP hits 2nd hit often whiffs.
Target combo j.mp> j.HP doesn’t work on most characters.
st.HP whiffs very frequently even when trying to punish the grounded recovery of a shoryuken point blank.
Occasionally EX Rhino horn passes through an opponent during the active frames)
