So how do we punish people for pressing jab and mashing crouch tech? I’ve been tryin to find out in training mode but it seems that this may be one of Elena’s weakness’. So far I see cr. jab>cr. mk works decently. And simply walking back after checking your opponent with st. lk and whiff punishing.
What do you guys do to make your opponent respect her block strings? (besides just throwing out an ex overhead:)
Elena doesnt really have any good Block strings per say but she can trick her opp, I like to do cr. lp into cr. mp if i miss the link it actually becomes a decent frame trap, cr.lk to cr.lp is another one. For someone who just crouch jabs i just block they eventually just do a different button after then i counter poke with cr.lp it is a great 3f move after all. you can also just walk out of the range and space a nice slide, Elena really shouldnt be in front of her opp tho she should control mid range not close range. Sometimes when i do cr.lp to cr.mp to lk SS my opponents do nothing giving me a free cr.lp poke after. Max range st. HK goes over lows and just blows up people who like to mash and B+HK seems to go over some lows like Ryu Cr.mk and then you can link it into the Bnb like cr.lp and cr. mp into special.
LK seems to be her best kara throw, moves her 1 baby square in training mode.
if you back throw someone while they are in the corner she chucks them full screen, might be good for U2
edit: it looks like f+mk kara throw might move her a square and a half but i cant tell if it’s the kara doing it or her moving forward a bit when i’m inputing the command normal
Canceling into Lynx from crouching normals is really hard for me. Especially lights, just not enough time to let the stick go neutral to get a clean set of inputs. The option for st.lk is good, but it certainly can be read if that’s the only way non combo that I am cancelling into it.
And you can’t do reverse dp shortcuts (down-back to down-back) like you can on fwd uppercuts
I have come to the conclusion that Elena will be only as good as the player makes her. Your success with her will only be as good as your footsies, mixups, mind games, and reads. Sorry guys but this is not an “abc” scrub character. You will have to outplay your opponent and dare I say it “really play Street Fighter”.
That’s true, but in a game with so many abc scrub characters, flowchart characters, mash until it works characters, an honest fighter really suffers.
If you are trying to do Lynx Tail after hitting st.HK or fwd+MP, like st.HK, cr.LP xx Lynx Tail, what I do is as I’m doing st.HK or fwd+MP, I’ll hold back. When it’s time for the link, I roll to down and hit cr.LP, then I roll to down-back and hit LK.
Fishing for counter hits with cr.lp with a stocked super is pretty deadly since you don’t even need to cancel the lp into super. You can just hit confirm it with a buffer, sort of like chun-li mp tool.
So after two frustratingly days of pure awfulness, I somehow managed to start putting together win streaks with Elena. But I don’t think it was because I was playing much better, I honestly think I was winning because I had higher PP and was matched against other higher PP players that didn’t seem to favor scrub tactics that seem to destroy her. I just spent a ton of time in training mode going through all her moves trying to find how to beat turbo controller crouching jab and couldn’t find anything reliable. Seriously, low PP players will spam cr.jab and ANY range CONSTANTLY and Elena’s options to combat this seem extremely limited. Slide is too dangerous and punishable and can’t be done in close, st.HK is too slow and takes too long to get airborn, b+HK is good against slide into throw but is too slow to handle repeated low jabs. ALL of her specials get beat outright by low jab except EX DP, which is obviously risky and wastes meter.
It seems if you fight Elena with an honorable, “Gentleman’s Game of Street Fighter” you are doing to straight up lose out to her footsies, high-low game and Ultra One which can be combo’ed into from many, many things. But if you play like an online scrub you are going to do much better against her.
