Yea making attacks Meaty seem to put them at a good adv which is why meaty slide is safe to everything on block unless its 3f. Elena might have a lot more hidden tricks up her sleeves
Meaty/perfectly spaced slide is actually safe against every attack in the game save for 1 frame super/ultra cmd grabs. It’s -1 if perfectly spaced/perfectly meaty.
I am exhausted guys if anyone has any tips for the C Viper MU or any MU make sure to post them on the MU thread so i can add and give you credit for it cause right now i’m tired and lacking in content in some MU i just never got to.
I feel like elena has to completely out play her opponents or frustrate them to win. She has no BS/gimmicks in a game where BS is pretty important.
That along makes me put her bottom 5 in the long run. Right now I think she’s really good because people don’t know how to fight her really, but as people get better and better I can only see her getting worse sadly.
Yea we all know this by heart but I love playing as Elena so i will stick to it
EDIT: Also did anyone else try her Kara grab from using f+mk or F+MP its practicably useless because of how little she moves forward but just throwing out that this is a thing.
I no longer think this is true. Elena has a lot of tech that’s still buried, and a lot of the stuff she does can be made safe. Plus, if you get your execution down you can really make people pay with her high/low game once you start incorporating f.mp and st.hk
Like I said you have to completely outplay your opponent, if they aren’t afraid to hit buttons or respect you its all down hill. I play elena much like I played her in 3s so fmk and st Hk and B HK are what I came out the gate with… but when she’s getting pressured its little to nothing she can do but block even Ex DP isn’t reliable with it randomly whiffing.
The funny thing is I lose to random scrub players online but can streak players that know how to play. It makes sense why but it suckksssss lol
I tried to punish an Evil Ryu’s whiffed shoryuken ultra with HK scratch wheel when he was literally directly in front of me (probably a centimeter off the ground) and had like one fierce attack worth of health left. Only one hit landed, and he survived. I haven’t actually played this game since Super, but in accordance with every other fighting game I’ve ever played that was not something that should’ve happened.
I’ve been having a lot of success against scrub players so far, if they like pressing buttons it’s even easier to massacre them. Everything she does is a frame trap, Just don’t use ex mallet in your strings and replace them with traps into st.hk, lk LT, or SS. I think the bigger problem are reversal happy players, specifically reversal happy players that have dps that are fast and have horizontal range(I’m looking at you Ken). In those instances just throw out something like cr.lk, cr.lp and bait. you can even do something like cr.lp, cr.mp xx SS and a lot of reversals will whiff if they try and tag you with something(Once again Ken is an exception here). You don’t even have to go in all the way, you can just poke them all day with buffers into ex mallet or lk LT, be patient and look for those openings.
I do agree that the key to winning with elena is outplaying your opponent, but I liken it similar to Makoto, just because you play the player moreso than the character doesn’t make her weak. Makoto was real strong in AE 2012 and her key to winning was always by outplaying the player first and foremost.
Actually because of Elena i am a lot more patient with my footies, before i just always went in so now i lose a lot less to scrubs who usually can scrub me out but now that doesnt happen anymore and as im typing this i just got the 3s combo yes.
If Elena connects with a throw that would dizzy the opponent, they become dizzy mid-way through her throw animation. Other multi-hitting throws (Dudley, Makoto, etc.) save the dizzy for the last “hit” of the throw, but for some reason Elena’s doesn’t work the same way. It still doesn’t seem to allow the opponent to mash out of their stun until they stand up like normal.
This is probably just a useless quirk, but maybe someone can figure out something cool.
Something a lot of people haven’t noticed yet, but her MK Scratch Wheel is more preferable to her HK version, for both AA’s (why would you AA with this) and combos. Does more damage.
Somebody here said they were having trouble with Guile.
I’ve found Healing to be really useful in fireball MUs, specifically Guile. Pick U2. Focus his Sonic Booms at full screen, build meter with lk Lynx tail. They cant do anything about it. Just watch out for EX’s. If they don’t come to you by around 60 seconds, start walking to them. Poke them out, punish sonic booms with sweep, and try to get a bit of a life lead. Once your comfortable with your lead, you can stay back and build meter again. The key to Healing is to use it as soon as you see Guile throw a (NON EX) Sb. Let the Healing go fully, you’ll recover a LOT and be hit by the Sonic Boom.
You can still be punished pretty hard by that. All the guile player has to do is dash 2 or 3 times and they’ll at the very least get a sweep on you. Now they get free pressure and being pressured is something an Elena player doesn’t really want due to her weak options. straight up picking U2 is only beneficial against a few characters mainly those with slow walk speeds and slow dashes.
Welp, my day 1 Elena has taken enough beat downs for today. I think the most discouraging thing for me right now is the low percentage for successfully landing her very basic combos (for example lp, lp, mp, mSpin Scythe). It’s what happens between lp and mp that drives me crazy. I just don’t think I’m good enough for what she requires (consistent 1 framers) in the way of execution. I’ll be sticking with her though. I like her… a lot!
I know what you mean i just do cr.lp into cr. mp instead to make it easier and off a cross up i just do cr.mp right away to go into SS i lose dmge and stun but man i need consistency more.
I’ve noticed that cancelling Healing works online about half the time. Most times when I try to bait an Ultra with it, she doesn’t cancel and I end up getting hit with the very move I was baiting.
Also, EX Scratch Wheel done at the same time as EX Shoryuken (at least from Akuma) will lose.
Also, EX Rhino Horn whiffs on Ryu’s fireball animation.
Also, never do one frame links online. Ever. Especially against characters with the reversals that Elena so desperately needs.
