Elena Combo Thread - Shall We Dance?

If you are in the corner, you can connect an EX SW after a LK SS. On larger characters, you can even do it after an MK SS.

I couldn’t think up any combos with that that were stronger than what is up there, but maybe someone else can do something with that knowledge.

Corner 1 bar may whiff on some crouching characters. Tested on crouching ryu.

s. Hk cr. Lp cr. Mp xx lk SS ex SW 319 dmg/556

Cr. Mp lk SS ex SW 257 dmg/ 416 stun.

Also the focus combo you have ex SS instead of ex SW.

I was experimenting with some Red Focus Combos for U2 and took Desk idea and tried to see if it would work and it came out pretty well
HP MS, cr.lp, cr.mp, RF, Dash forward, U2 xx U2 cancel xx HP DP. 336 Dmg/ 456 Stun
HP MS, cr.mp, RF, Dash forward, U2 xx U2 cancel xx HP DP. 344Dmg/ 464 Stun

Combos for Red Focus U1
HP MS, cr.lp, cr.mp, RF, Dash forward xx U1. 422 Dmg/ 376 Stun
HP MS, cr.mp, RF, Dash Forward xx U1. 464 Dmg/ 364 Stun

Subtracting the cr.lp makes the combos better and more damaging but i assume some people either miss the link or are comfortable with cr.lp like me so i put both versions up

mid screen with characters that can get hit with s.hp after focus attack you can do
focus attack, s.hp, MK LT xx Super 520 damage / 444 stun

and in the corner
focus attack, s.hp, EX SS, EX RH, EX SW 469 damage / 668 stun

Saw Jiban connect LK. SS, HK. SW in the corner against Abel. Not sure if it’s character specific. Looks like a nice meterless option against a cornered opponent.

It doesn’t work on the whole cast. It should work normally or with focus, I haven’t tested on who all it works on, but you may be testing on one of the characters it doesn’t work on.

I tested out S. HP after Focus Crumple and it works on Hugo, Gief, Hawk, Vega, Sagat, Seth, and Bison. Bison can whiff but it is fairly consistent. Every little bit of damage helps

Found this out messing around in the lab. You can apparently connect Handstand Kick (f.MP) into Elena’s Super! It hasn’t been consistent (or maybe the window’s real tight), but it works. I’ve only tried it against Juri, and so far only the Super off Handstand Kick has worked. Would think H or EX Scratch Wheel would work, going by the frame data, but I haven’t been able to get those off (mostly as they whiff, but even when they do connect it hasn’t worked for me). Works midscreen and in the corner.

Max range on the Handstand Kick into Super won’t work, as the the first hit will whiff. Doing it mid or close range seems to be the only option, which limits its usefulness. Haven’t gotten anything to work with Handstand Whip (f.MK) yet.

f+MP lets you link cr.jab into stuff. if you’re linking super, it’s probably because it’s hitting in later active frames (usually +3). juri crouches real low so that’s a possibility.

f+MK doesn’t give you enough advantage to get anything.

This was done on a standing, auto-block Juri.

Correct spacing will let you hit with later active frames for that f.:mp: overhead. I was able to get this on quite a few characters, but it is extremely extremely inconsistent.

I would much rather take that extra frame and get an easy mode link into c.:lp: and combo from there into something and then into super.

Now, on counterhit, these overheads get pretty baller and you can do tons of stuff. Elena’s CH game is actually pretty stellar (considering whats she’s got).

While this seems possible with most characters, I haven’t found a situation where this does more or even equal damage to just MK SS by itself. Considering MK SS comes out faster than LK SS, any combo you could use LK SS to HK SW would be easier and more damaging with just MK SS.

What about the stub difference?

204dmg / 366 stun

so about 40 more stun and 10 less dmg give or take. Not really worth it unless you know it will lead to stun imo

Yeah but I think I like the extra stun and meter build. It depends on the situation but it seems shouldn’t you should be able to do. Also ex dp is a great way to finish the combo.

crazy how I’m finding Mr. 507 [H]Mallet Smash -> st.[L]Kick -> [Ex]Lynx Tail -> Brave Dance
easier to execute than
bread and butter cr.[L]Punch -> cr.[L]Punch -> cr. [M]Kick

249 dmg / 406 stun with ex sw

That’s because it is easier. you’re at +6 after an hp mallet.

Depending on the character you can do EX DP after M SS as well.

Honestly I want more damage, even if it is a tiny amount more, and especially if it makes the combo easier. It’s hard enough to get that hit confirm into a real combo, last thing I want to do is give enemy an inch of life when I could take it or risk dropping something when I could have gone for a sure thing that’s just as good.

Elena has plenty of ways to build meter on her own time and, honestly, if you get a stun you clearly had enough momentum to win the match regardless.

And here’s the thing about using EX DP after LK SS - like, let’s say you do this combo:
cr.LP/LK, cr.LP, cr.MP xx EX Mallet Smash, cr.LP, cr.MP xx LK Spin Scythe, EX Scratch Wheel

You get 278. Eh.

Now, let’s say you instead went with:
cr.LP/LK, cr.LP, cr.MP xx EX Mallet Smash, cr.LP xx LK Rhino Horn, EX Scratch Wheel.

That’s 302 and one less link to worry about. Anywhere that first combo would work, that second combo would work too, plus in more places because you can actually get that one to work outside the corner against some opponents.

(You could still throw in that cr.LP, cr.MP link after the EX Mallet Smash if you want to get a whopping three more damage points - 305 instead of 302 - but I’ve always been under the mentality of “Why work hard if you don’t have to?”)

Ah I see. That’s some good stuff.
