Because no mater how good a game is, it is hard to have fun playing it if no one else is going to play it. This problem is worse when it comes to fighting games.
Same thing happened to Guilty Gear. It is arguable the best 2D fighter there is, but it didn’t catch up here that much since there is no comp. Besides, who has #R?
And shameless plug, look how long it took me to have Lando, Luis and Cesar be somewhat interested in EFZ. Lando didn’t get into it until after Eternal Romancia was formed.

Jabel’s got it. Every fighting game that has come out in the last couple of years has only been bitched to death. SVC (shitty), SC2, GGXX, and now T5. People’s expectations are way too high today. They need to STFU, since programming games has and will get increasingly more difficult with every generation of hardware.
I REALLY miss the SNES/Genesis days. That was the heyday of gaming for me right there. And back then, EGM and Gamepro were badass, also.
SF4 will be shit, according to its “fans”.
Just stick to what you like. We don’t live in a region that’s even good at fighting games. There’s no point in striving to be the best. Honestly, just have fun with what you have. We probably COULD get good at these games, but it’d be too hard, especially with how demanding school can get.
Just play games, enjoy them, and you’ll be respected, which is better than being some elitist fag on the internet.

and VF4 is good, IMO, they should have just stuck with evo. final tuned is just kinda stupid, toning down akria was really stupid, I don’t know about ver.B but all I know is that Kage in ver.A was too fucking good with everyone else toned down but him. and I can see why people don’t like VF4, there is too much shit to learn that it can be pretty annoying, I think that’s the game’s biggest turnoff. but I enjoy it, even there is only one guy in el paso who play’s it, and dex and mike in LC play it as well. but I did’nt know crap the last time I played them so I don’t know how good they are

SvC WAS shitty. Soul Calibur 2 never was not that hot if you ask me.
The problem that GGXX had is that there never was an official arcade release in the US, so competition was minimal unless you go to California or other hot spots, so a lot of the “comp” of GGXX included “anime nerds” who more often than not don’t go beyond the scrub level (not counting Chaotic Blue the level of GGXX in Anime Expo was pretty sad - even a n00b like me was doing decent with bad controllers). There was some interest on GGXX here in El Paso, but for example, I never got the game, and since Carlos and Fernie never got into it we never really played it so it eventually died. I really like #R, and Demetrio still likes the game. I am pretty sure Lando and Cesar don’t play it simply because there is not many people to play with.
T5 does seem to have some balance issues, but its too early to tell how bad this problem will be or if it will kill the game for me like the case of CvS2.
On that note, I like hard games or at least games that require a certain amount of effort to get decent. That’s why I like ST, GGXX, EFZ, 3S, I would have liked CvS2 a lot if it weren’t for balance, and i would have gotten into VF if I ever got it.

I’ve read on TZ that Steve is pretty damn good in T5. Not broken, but he has a signficant edge over everyone else, supposedly. The game’s OK IMO, so I really don’t give a fuck, and everyone sucks here in LC. I’ll rent it, learn some shit, and piss off every scrub there is here. Just like I did with SC2, haha.
SC2 never attained the level of success, of say, MVC2, but I don’t think you were ever really exposed to a place with good comp., like Alb… They loved it over there.
GGXX is cool, but no one plays. VF4 is good, but everyone lies about playing it. “Oh, it’s so deep and hardcore, but I don’t even play the game!” I’ll pick up EVO sometime, though.
And yes bitches, I’m on NyQuil. I’m sick, but it’s still the shit.
Oh yeah, fuck balance. No fighting game will EVER be perfect, so don’t get your hopes up. There’s some simple logic here: less characters = more balance (well no shit fucking Einsteins), or more characters = less balance.
MVC2/CVS2 both have a ton of characters, so of course there’s gonna be some damn balance issues. Games like GGXX and VF4 have less characters, therefore less room for imbalance.

I cannot expect a perfectly balanced game, but I can expect a reasonable amount of balance to like a game. #R, ST, EFZ and 3S even with Chun/Ken/Yun have a reasonable amount of balance. IMO, CvS2 does not fall in that category.

Of course CvS2 falls into that category! Capcom may have overlooked a few things e.g. RC’s, but that’s the beauty of CvS2. Even though more powerful characters exist, thanks to the different grooves and RC’s, nearly half the cast is playable at high levels which is just fine and dandy. I can say that more characters are playable in CvS2 than in plenty of other games. Besides, you have to consider that you can’t really compare “Team” fighting games to single character fighting games because of the nature of forming teams. Anyway, I will agree completely with what the VMan said about a year ago, “We live in America. Everyone here loves characters that you just have to hit c.HP to get wins.”
Honestly, I don’t really think that it is that much harder to use Mid or Low tier characters, we just don’t have enough people who use 'em and even though everyone enjoys diversity, there are few who actually take it to the next step and learn the “weaker” characters.
In Casual play, Ohnuki still kicked everyone’s ass with Ratio-1, N-groove Dhalsim. I saw him get dozens of OCV’s. Crazy huh? Even though he was a dick to me at Evo 2k3, I still wouldn’t mind following his example.
