If they’re spaced properly, then yeah, you’re shit out of luck, unless they cancel that max range poke into a fireball. But every player has patterns, and it’s not too difficult to anticipate when a cr. forward is going to happen in a block string. Cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. forward xx fireball is very common and easy to read. I can see myself landing it in the second or third round of a match, where I feel like I have a good handle on my opponent’s tendencies.
My bad. Im used to explaining crap like hitboxes etc to people. Didn’t mean to talk down to you like i did. Sorry bro.
Fuck, all this time i didnt know that 1 frame was in there. I knew it was fine with Ken, but as far as Ryu goes, i thought c.mk -> FB was, in essence, a true blockstring.
Anyway, since i managed to derail your original question, im going to stop putting my foot in my mouth and making myself look like a tool, and just ask it again myself, to get everything back on track.
Does Ultra Spark go THROUGH low fireballs, or just UNDER the higher variants?
Pretty sure it went right underneath.
True block strings hardly exist beyond a few jabs and shorts, unfortunately. It’s safe to assume that everything is untrue/unsafe.
heh it’s all good. As long as we’re on the same page, Amigo!
So, it seems like Fuerte is going to be moving on up in the tiers. It’s nice to know that Joke characters…besides Rufus…can be good!
I don’t think the ultra alone will move him up in tiers.
I’ll reserve my thoughts on that after the game drops and we re-evaluate his other tools and deficiencies.
How to make Fuerte top tier:
Shower kick knocks down.
The faster normals would have definitely did the trick in moving Fuerte up a bit in the tiers, but I am unsure about how the new ultra alone will affect his tier placement. My prediction is that, assuming he only got a new ultra without any other changes, he might remain in the same tier (low-mid) or move up to be solid mid if many of his harder matchups got some notable nerfs (that will drop the number of the many 4-6 ones he has right now on the tier list and make them 5-5, leading to a well-rounded character despite having issues with some of his tools).
I know Fuerte players are very happy and looking for SSF4 to continue playing there upgraded character good for yall.
well, if the rumors are true. SRK was nerfed and FAs are faster all around, except seth. Since Fuerte’s FA was so amazing, i consider this a buff to him as well. So, with both of those, along with the possibility of faster normals, he has to move up, right? I wasn’t just talking about the ultra, but that has bound to make some matchups a little easier. Not that i mind Fuerte being low tier, it’s just nice to be acknowledged!
As long as most of his matchups are 5-5 i’m happy. Just having those few characters that completely dominate Fuerte and leave him with little options during the match is annoying.
If FA is notabely faster then I agree that it will help Fuerte a lot, but still unsure how much it will affect his tier placement overall. I also wish Fuerte gets a solid spot as mid tier because I feel he needs more recognition. I personally don’t mind playing a low tier, as long as I find him top tier in terms of fun but I know some people who don’t like to even bother trying low tier, and I think they are missing the fun of using Fuerte because of that.
On an entirely different note, I hope Fuerte gets a more extended storyline in Super, it will help a lot in getting him more recognition. I got very sad today when I read that R.Mika was so close in making it in, since if she made it then it is a chance to show more story between her and Fuerte. But I still think there is so much potential for Fuerte to have a proper story with both funny and serious aspects, even if R.Mika is not in the game. His personality is a part of why I got to like him this much, so if they expand on it and talk more about his origins then a lot of people will take more notice of him.
I could see it now. Fuerte gettin’ glomped. He’d die a happy hombre.
FA is something I was never good at using with Fuerte. Great range but too slow and always got me hit out of. But seeing as it’s faster. It will definitly be used with gusto like his other good normals.
FA being faster is all well and good, but I’d like it to have a bit more frame advantage on block. I mean you are putting pressure on the opponent, it shouldnt be an easy reversal for them.
(I’ve been hit with srk waaaaay too many times when i go for jab tickthrow after a blocked FA)
I just hope RSF is easier hahahaha
armor cancel into ultra 2 is pretty huge for fuerte. fuerte’s main problems dont really have anything to do with his offense; he generally doesn’t have much trouble getting in and getting his offense started. fuerte dies because he has some of the worst defensive options in the game
ultra 2 trades in some of the offensive power (ability to ultra against people jumping back) with some serious defensive threat; armor cancel into ultra2 should likely punish jabs, raw ultra2 is fast enough to be a serious punisher on block in situations where he only got throws (or nothing at all) before, random ultra in general gives opponent a legit reason to hesitate before attacking fuerte
what that means is we’re a lot less likely to just be attacked an entire round by opponents who have nothing to fear in reprisal. this translates to more neutral situations, which fuerte generally has an easier time of converting to momentum than his opponents do
ultra2 (with armor cancel) just made fuerte a way more solid character by addressing his biggest weakness
note: shoto low forward into fireball is a block combo against fuerte at most ranges; fuerte is really fat
This, coupled with the fact that Dawgtanian thinks Fuerte received 50 more HP, means Fuerte’s biggest problems were fixed in a fair and balanced way. I’m happy with the tweaks he received, he’ll be a legit threat now.
I always thought 900 hp is too little for Fuerte based on his physical build alone. 950 seems like an ideal stamina for a luchador like him (1000 is ok too but 950 FEELS right lol). I really hope its true. That would also mean the difference in hp between Fuerte and Zangief just got reduced in half! from 300 to 150, since gief got 100 less now. That would make the matchup a lot more managable imo.
Regarding ultra 2, man I am soo pumped now, I really want to just try it. First thing I do after getting the game, after warming up in trial mode and unlocking some stuff, is to go into training and just try out different possibilites with the spark! I also want to play a bit with the new characters in single player just to get a feel for them, to help in getting fimiliar with their style so that I can own them with Fuerte later
Some common stuff that I’d like to test the allspark against:
abel’s f.mk, pressure
rufus’s dive kicks and galactic tornado strings
sagat’s tiger knee strings
honda’s headbutt (heavy/ex)
dictator’s c.lk xx scissors stuff
viper’s mp/lp thunder knuckle strings
frame data will probably provide all the answers, but till then hopefully someone who gets the chance to play a test build can try these things out. or I guess we could just wait a month or so. heh.
I know that Galactic Tornado is extremely safe on block. I think it is -1 on block, and -2 for EX. So it might not be possible to punish in this way. But its hard to know since frame data might change a lot in Super. Once we have the frame data, I will compile a list of all the moves that can be punished on block by the spark, I will try and put them in one thread so fellow Fuertes can refer to it quickly.
Fuertes current Ultra can beat vipers mp/lp thunderknuckle block strings. I did it last night and it even worked when they tried to cancel it into a dash.
This will definitely work for the ultra spark also.
