you can win a tournament with fuerte. No matchups are that bad in this game like they were in super.
i think if a character fits u well there should be no reason why u cant win with whoever. keep in mind that becuz ur playing fuerte im pretty sure the element of surprise would go to u becuz most ppl have never played a fuerte before.
I don’t think the “surprise” thing is still relevant as SF4 has been out for quite a while now. Of course, I still bring scrubs to splash mountain but I would also bring them to crossup forest or footsies plains…so it as nothing to do with fuerte in the first place…
The surprise element isn’t there, but what you’re gonna do next. Every now and then, I’ll toss in a QBomb in.
Off topic, but does anyone besides love breaking the opponent down mentally to the point they start using online tactics?
No your are not alone, far from it! The main reason I play fuerte is to have that great feeling when you know your opponent is like “ok fuck that…my brain isn’t fast enought, just mash!”. And if he rages, then that’s bonus points to your ego
I also like to play a very slow/defensive first round, continuously jumping, fainting and running. I start the second round the same way, wait for a mistake and then I activate the “crazy mode”: Mash paradise and punish heaven!
I tend to start based on how I feel and who I’m fighting. To paraphrase a guy I know, I go insane with a purpose. I don’t play defensive except when it’s someone I’ve never played and when the opponent is low on health. The reason for the latter is because this is when players can start to get desperate so I consider every one of their options and it’s also to disrupt the rhythm they’ve been accustomed to.
Overall, it’s all about the way you feel the fight and your ability to read your oponent’s playstyle as fast as you can by taking the less risks possible. Of course I do turtle when I get the lead and mostly play a rush down style the rest of the time. However this made me wonder is “Turtle + surprise blitz” could be a viable tactic in addition to the more traditionnal fuerte game style.
There’s a traditional style?
lol sorry for the misinterpretation, I’m french and cannot always translate what I want to say in english with 100% accuracy. By traditionnal, I meant most frequent, or more popular, just like most dhalsims will yoga fire and zone you, or most ibukis will try to vortex you. There are exceptions but I think each character have a more “frequent” way to be played. Fuerte by example is “get a knockdown and mixup all day until you stop for more mixup or get punished”. Although there are exceptions, most opponent will expect that kind of gameplay.
Turtle + surprise blitz is my normal strategy…
I got what you said, it’s just that from experience that I never see one Fuerte player play like another. We have similarities which are inherent, but the way we all get to our objective varies from person to person because of Fuerte’s mixup nature. Densuo is more defensive while I’m more offensive with a method to my madness.
^ Even RS pressure habits change between Elf players. Timing, normals used…Tendency to do it, and even the duration…
We all play differently from each other.
^ I’m glad to hear we all have different style, but I never thought they could be so diversified. That’s a great thing tho! Many ways to spice up our fights!
Is it bad that I don’t even bother with run stop pressure most of the time because c.lp is so good? I’m catching myself only doing it after a blocked crossup or safe jump on characters without fadc-able reversals, or maybe after a shower kick combo (s.lp x3, c.lk. c.mk, run stop shenanigans) but I’ve started using chain jab there, too. It seems like chain jab is as or more useful in a lot of the same situations I’d use run stop pressure. Maybe all this online play with random uppercuts and wakeup ultras has made me too cautious in situations where I could probably be blowing people up by taking bigger risks.
I like doing run stop pressure because the mixup is more unpredictable whether im gonna stop throw, splash, tortilla, overhead.
I use jabs to push people away, sometimes pressuree. but the hitstun on block is like only+1 which isnt that great. so if i try to press another button, im probably gonna get hit outta it.
Thanks spab, now that I think about it that way the spacing on c.lp is probably feeding my laziness. I tend to play pretty reserved (for a Fuerte player) and that breathing room appeals to my bad comfort zone habits. As far as the block stun, I don’t get hit out of s.mp after blocked chain jabs usually, not sure if that’s because its legit or just people don’t know what works yet.
With run stop, I’m not throwing or shower kicking much, locals and longtime xbl buddies are getting good at reading me and punishing accordingly. Gotta fix that. c.lp c.lk c.mk xx run works right? might be a good way to bridge my c.lp abuse. Got a lot of work to do when I get home.
Usually after chain jabs I’m throwing far mp crMK or overhead into more chain jabs. Land overhead to jabs and people start mashing. Now if only I had rsf…
Yes, that works. You can even do two standing jabs, not just one, and if you are feeling spicy you can just do standing short instead of crouching short, but you can’t plink that one…so just know the timing.
Also, throw! Shower kick! Use your options…the more you vary your offense, the harder it becomes to read you. Don’t limit yourself man.
I’m not using Fuerte anymore until I get the RSF down. Had a practice session that was going well. I feel like I’m real close so I’m just going to focus on finally getting it down first before shenanigans and other things.
Work on raw RSF on Ken (will make you a lot crisper on that first run stop fierce rep) and make sure you know the RSF timing after a focus crumple on Dhalsim/Dan, who are a little different. Few things feel worse than getting a good read on Dhalsim and blowing it.
