eXcellent teamwork guys. I’m at work right now so when I get home (Sunday) I’ll update all of your info into the Viper match up. Thank you for taking the time to post your findings and for confirming it with extra testing in both a polite and concise manner. You guys are great.
I lol at anyone who ever gets hit with a non ex overhead, as soon as you see the motion just jump straight up and then punish as you see fit.
Shoot… its the least we can do,thanks for organizing this and using the info we all have contributed to =) we will all keep workin. im going to go test more on Boxer tonight …
It worked, I fought against the same player and I only lost two of nine matches (he left)… excellent guys !!
I’m still working on focus techniques Vs. C.Viper and by the way I’ve been working on some nasty techniques against Ryu, now I just need some time to post…
Later !
:clapdos:
this is what makes it all worthwhile right here guys.
im stoked!!! i was always annoyed by people that would just jump straight up and kick when ever i ran at them and i was really having a hard time with that until i saw the tetsu vs nemo vid!! run towards them and cancel while holding jump and go for the air throw!! WIN!
That does work but I wouldn’t abuse if a chun or any character is aware enough they’re neutral jump fierce beats out air throw
Today I used a turtling and run away strategy against Balrog (Boxer) for the first time, and it paid off really well! Before I always lost to most good Balrogs, and there was one that I struggled with a lot. I always tried to rush him down and be aggressive but I end up getting murdered. Today though, I followed the strategy of getting a life lead early and then running away till the end of the match, with a few surprise and random attacks, I think it has been mentioned before, but this strategy makes Balrog a lot easier (still a harder matchup in general), I actually won 3 times in a row with this (then the guy switched characters)
Thanks a lot guys for suggesting this strategy, I think against certain characters it actually makes more sense now.
i hate having to pull out the run away card. i feel like such a dweeb. the only opponent i play run away with is gief. fuck gief. fuck gief and his spd.
Yes I used to hate this too, makes me feel very cheap… but against certain players with certain characters I think it is important for me to use it now till I have a better grasp on the matchup. Besides, Fuerte is in a way designed to run I hope I don’t have to resort to this strategy very often, but for now I really do need it against charge characters and gief.
A win is a win is a win. Why play their game when you can take the lead, and turn the tables?
thx, that does make me feel a bit better I do enjoy playing aggressively for the most part, gives me a rush in the blood. But when that leads to me losing constantly against certain players, its really time to completely switch gears and take the lead through defensive measures. I think I will slowly try and reach a midpoint between both of my current opposite strategies, Ill try and be patient, not necessarily just running all the time, but choosing the right moments on when to run and when to be aggressive. In that way, I think I will enjoy the game more, and also enjoy a good amount of success. For now, I will take early lead, run and observe, and formulate some strategies on how to be better at well timed attacks rather than just charging in and getting killed.

got my first hatemail today from a balrog player!! i feel like i just joined a club.
i suck at this matchup and always seem to get too aggressive but this time i said no, let’s be as patient as we need to be. and after three long rounds i won by timeout because the mother@#$%er turtled the entire time. the few times we exchanged blows id get in a 3 hit RSF or something and then run away. because F him, i dont need to attack you if you’re just sitting there. the final round i blew the last three seconds with my ultra.
since this is a matchup thread i’ll try to make this useful.
yes, NEVER be ashamed to run away if you are ahead and dont want to risk it. i had to learn this after countless losses not by being the worse player, but by being impatient. i was defeating myself. i was trying to use him like every other SF character. but Fuerte’s not like that. you dont have to run constantly and score hit after hit. be explosive. turtle, run away to get a feel for the guy and what he knows, and then EXPLODE EXPLODE run away…he has to chase you if he wants to win.
sorry, im just feeling great because i finally beat a balrog like every other balrog ive ever played. use that clock guys, and say to yourself, “patience!” before the match
I need back dashing/rolling Abel fighting tips. Also I need a game plan against Rufus. Can forward medium kick go through some of Rufus’s moves?
If you can bait a snake strike (whatever his DP is) out of Rufus, it’s basically a free crumple into RSF.
Slides are a nightmare for Abel. His backdash is slow as shit so well placed slides will punish. Quesadilla bomb can punish the back dash but you have to really havy your opponent figured out.
If he rolls, You get a free grab. See the matchup video thread for all the stuff you can do vs Abel’s roll.
I’m noT very experienced vs Rufus. I suggest looking over the matchup info, and cross-referencing by going to the Rufus subforum.
Oh and don’t get hit by ex snake strike
Welcome to the winning team bows in respect
I can’t wait to face more Balrogs and piss them off. Its funny though, the guy who I played with last time (the one who kept owning me with his Balrog till I changed my strategy and started owning him) was very nice, I thought he would hate on me but he actually complemented me on my running away strategy and told me that it is much harder for him to catch me, and it provides him with a much better challenge than an aggressive Fuerte. It might feel strange a bit when you first start to apply this (I felt a bit guilty that I am being cheap), but really… who cares!!! it is a viable strategy and there really is nothing cheap in this game. It seems that when people get used to you running away they start charging in with no fear of you attacking them, and thats when you strike!
:china:
something i noticed from many dhalsims:
before randomly teleporting in on you, he’s going to want you to stay put. normally when on opposite ends of the screen he’ll throw out a slow fireball. depending on what you do, here are some common responses:
- you stand still to block—> teleport combo. bad option
- you focus the fireball and dash forward–> straight fierce or jab
- you jump back–> air teleport on top of you while you fall, or repeat fireball
jumping forward against dhalsim from full screen isnt practical.
i tend to put myself in the #1 situation to bait a teleport. stay grounded, and if he jumps backwards when he clearly cant hit you, watch for the teleport. here you can predict it and jump back for either an air throw or jumping HK. it is right here you can attempt a splash or other quick throw while you are close. if he’s the kind of guy who abusesa wakeup teleport be ready to run through it and slide to keep the attack going. if he gets away, dont worry, it’s another game of patience.
Anyone have tips for Elf against a turtling Blanka? Also, what’s some safe oki to do against him when he has ultra?
