El Fuerte Matchups and Strategies v.2 ***Updated 02APR10***

ya sometimes after i lose a match i realize i should have just kept my distance. its usually against boxer and blanka! dam turtles

As far as the backdash spd not being free, yeah that works every time. However you are still in a not so good position since you have to guac or jump or something to avoid the spd, which means if he doesn’t spd and instead presses jab or lariat or something you are gonna take a lot of damage if you tried to jump or guac. But gief cannot punish your meaty tortilla with anything for free. Knowing that you can base your mixups around it with the least risk, provided you are in a position where you are forced to mix him up(he has big life lead).

Nah. He can just push you toward the corner, and jump fierce/crouch fierce when you try to walljump over… Balrog RAPES up close with his stupid jab/throw game IMO. Fuerte’s backdash sucks. I guess it’s hard to catch you but not that hard…

Tru dat word this match up is at best 5-5.

Just verified that combo. Updating again :3

In other words. HOLY SHIT WE FOUND A USE FOR GORDITA SOBAT

EDIT: Does anyone care If I add the amount of hits /damage / stun stuff does?
EDIT 2: Perhaps Gordita does have a use.it can combo to super and can be FADC’d

Hi elf users this won’t take a minute.
I have a few survey questions for Sakura Forums Research.
WE are keen to know the opinions of the vs Sakura match up across the character forums.
[]What’s the best approach to beating a average/good Sakura player?
[
]How do you beat a defensive Sakura and how do you beat an offensive one?
Get a life lead and turtle. She cant do anything to him afterwards.

bad jump ins get tortilla’d

Every charged fireball is a free everything

dont guacamoke her jHK

Wasn’t that one of the combos in the trial mode? I think it went Fierce xx run > gordita xx super.

Still better to fierce into super or fierce run stop, I would think it’s a waste of meter to FADC a gordita.

Primary Battleplan:
-Bait some kind of defensive move and get the knock down, then work the game from there. Take advantage of her not so good wake-up options.
-Counter/punish whatever she does offensively, for the most part it’s not too hard.

My notes on this matchup:
-Punish the hell out of the shoryus with RSF (for some reason, lots of Saks think this is a good wake-up move when it’s exactly the opposite)
-Don’t get caught up in the footsie game, but then again this applies vs just about anybody with Fuerte.
-The EX tatsu mix-up game is easy to escape if Fuerte has meter, so that takes away a big part of her game right there. That being said, the EX tatsu is probably the best thing she has going for her in this match-up since it’s safe on block and will break EX runs or run xx stop happy Fuertes will get caught by it every now and then.
-Both of these characters rely largely on mixups and Fuerte has the upper hand in that category by a long shot.
-In the end, I think this match tends to swing a lot. Whenever someone loses their meter in this match, that person is at a huge disadvantage if the other has meter.

There was a thread in the Sakura section I came across about how to handle “scrubby Fuertes”. There’s some good stuff in there about what to do against Fuerte in general, check that out.

AHAHAHHAH this guy went around posting the same exact thing in the gief forum too.

Pretty much agree with you completely.

I’ve found the target combo pretty useful to keep chars like Balrog and Abel at a distance. Also close MK seems to have throw invulnerability (after the slooow startup).

Yes. I did go around all of the forums. Its for a good cause. One of your elf’s Aions84? Actually dropped in and enlighted all of us. He is a good man!

Thanks for all of this extra info! I will trott along now with it back to my section so we can try to come up with something or at least raise elf awareness. Cheers again!

Problems with C.Viper

Since I have not fought with a good Viper … until yesterday, I need some advice (advanced tips) please.

Crouching Viper or getting up

What’s the best way to attack her because:

 1. If i do the Tostada and she does the Seismic Hammer(EX) or the Burning Kick(EX) I’ll be punished even with a combo
 2. Same for the Tortilla attack

Is there a way to safetely execute this attack (specially the Tostada)?
What else I can do thinking of making some damage or starting a combo when she is in the ground?

 1. Whats the best way to counter the Burning Kicks apart from the Guacamole? Should I use the Shield (EX) then the tostada?

General Strategy

 1. Which is the best way to punish Viper because:
 • If she blocks my tostada I’ll be punished with a combo
 • If I do the Tortilla and she jumps backwards I’ll be countered
 • I can’t wait away 'cause of her Seismic Hammer
 • Plus she can do the (EX) moves limiting my attacks

Note: I checked the first strategy of this Topic, but as u can see I need some “specific” advice.

I agree, Viper is tricky. I think the key is who feints best and who gets who jumpy.

Feint more. once you see and hear the gleam you have enough time to stop and jump hold the stick the way you wanna jump as you run so you can stop and jump immediately.

Tostada is quick so it’s well within her invincible frames of EX Seismo. your best bet is to feint and get Viper jumpy.

Seismo Spam, just hang back and LK Guac for meter. you can always focus it too.

Burning Kick can be Focused, Air Thrown (Jump straight up), or you can back run and see if Viper bites and goes for the move anyway.

I think the Air Throw video shows something specific for the Burning Kick. that can come in handy.

This is something I want to test. But I think Far Standing :hk: forward +mk and slide will make a good meaty against her when she doesnt have meter.

I had a long reply written for this, but my browser screwed up on me…good notes from Densuo, here’s some more stuff.

-Spaced out, not meaty slide works well against her EX seismo and BK on wake-up, it will hit the seismo once the 13 invincible frames run out and it will go under the EX BK. Slightly delayed tortilla and tostada are good too. Safe tortillas avoid the EX seismo, so work on the spacing if you’re getting it by it. Over aim it maybe?
-Neutral jump right as she wakes up is good, avoids most of her wake up options and leads to RSF on whiffed (EX) seismo and regular flame kick.
-You can counter BK or air BK with ultra as well if you know it’s coming (like after a seismo or wake up cross up), you need spacing if it’s grounded though. (EX) Guac works good, neutral jump HP, well timed and spaced tortilla and tostadas. EX runs help if you’re having trouble with spacing and timing. You can airthrow it too.

Lots of good stuff in here:

Against EX flame kick, gone wrong (at the end):

I Think the viper match is great for building ultra. Seismo cancels quickly but our dash is short and fast for quick recovery from utilizing focus attacks so I think this is a match where a Viper gets predictable we can have her eating more then one ultra. The most dangerous place sadly is mid range as her knuckle move is decently fast and armor breaks AND has three different friggin versions (seriously WTF). I’m extremly uncomfortable fighting her in that range namley because of that move. I think it’s likely more due to me not fighting enough Vipers but out feinting her I feel is the most important thing. That and her invincible frames for ex seismo (as well as the frames you get from feinting it, see the viper thread for more info. ) just make it trickier.

i really do play vipers on the daily. some more things that work quite well are run slides and focus attacks. if they like to burn kick on your wake up, it’s a free ultra. to make her wake ups more difficult, insert more meaty f MKs and far HKs. and again you better know your rsf by now cause her life will be gone before you know it.

Tnks everyone for the tips, very useful stuff & videos

I worked on tecniques to counter the most annoying attacks of C.Viper which listed below:

C.Viper = Fuerte
Seismic Hammer(EX) = Normal HK (sometimes two hit damage)
Seismic Hammer(EX) = 1 sec delayed Tostada
Burning Kick(EX) = Crouching HP or Absorb damage (EX) and Tostada/Fajita/Calamar
Everytime she jumps = Crouching HP
Jumping Burning Kick = Crouching HP - No matter if it’s high, medium or super delayed Burning Kick, if u don’t connect u have chance to start a combo when she lands

Still working on focus attack…

Agree with everything posted here u should never get hit with ex seismo while ur mixing her up, ur most likely doing ur wake up splash or tortilla to early. Just learn the range for safe tortilla and splash. Also if someone could test this out or correct me if I’m wrong, doesn’t even lk guac take her out of ex burning kick??? I’ve done it a couple of times in game, just wondering if that’s legit or not.

anything she does in the air you can guac. or air throw… =) i just tested it out … you can also cr.fierce(delay it a little) her cross up burning kick… well any burning kick…but delay it on the one where she crosses up…

Boxer:
so i dunno if this was ever posted yet… but when he trys to punish you for crouching in his mixups…(his overhead punch) he might as well forget about that option…basically you get an easy knockdown on reaction…cr.fwd stuffs it from there you can: RSF (1 fierce to slide i have gotten so far)…Loop cr.fwd run away (to annoy)…Loop another cr.fwd and run mixup(tostada, tortilla, fajita)… we gotta shut this fool down lol expose them weaknesses. =) im gonna keep testing… =)
