El Fuerte Matchups and Strategies v.2 ***Updated 02APR10***

munchi does ibuki’s raida catch crouch techs? i know its unsafe on block, but if it catches crouth techs then it could be annoying.

I have some time today and tomorrow so I’ll do my best with these as well.

I really wish I had stuff to contribute to this thread.

i beats out some really strange stuff … i dont know for sure about crouch tech , but i will test it out and post what i find … if i were you though i wouldnt try to crouch tech … i would poke and find the knockdown opportunity and dont let her out of the vortex

my friend is maining ibuki and i have notice that she is mad free on her wake up. slide beats all her option cept her ex dp and tortilla beats everything she has. So far im liking fuerte’s odds against her. After seein raida beat ultra 2 , im curious if there are any othere shenanigans i should be aware of in this match up.

Akashwan, I did you a favor and compiled a list regarding reversal Ultra Sparks regarding the characters from SFII, save for the Devas. Note that all of these were done at point blank range.
[]Ryu: Reversal Spark stops both.
[
]Ken: Stops Ultra 1, but will get first hit of Ultra 2.
[]Chun-Li: See Ryu
[
]Guile: Ultra 1 and Reversal Spark both whiff, but does catch Ultra 2.
[]Dhalsim: Stops Ultra 1, but the both whiff for Ultra 2; can be Guac’d though.
[
]E. Honda: Ultra 1 and Reversal Spark both whiff, does not catch Ultra 2.
[]Blanka: See Guile, both versions of Ultra 2 can be caught.
[
]Zangief: No on Ultra 1 and both Ultra 2 and Reversal Spark whiff.
[]Cammy: No on Ultra 1, but yes on Ultra 2.
[
]Fei-Long: See Ryu
[]T. Hawk - See Zangief
[
]Dee-Jay: See Ryu
It’s safe to assume that all other Ultra grabs beat Reversal Spark.

Here are the characters I tested so far for when ultra spark works as a reversal ultra or not, **note that I did NOT do it in point blank range, I took a small distance away from each character as I tried the spark. Please check KumaOso’s list for the results when the spark is done at point blank range. **

EDIT: I have tried each ultra several times, but errors still can occur as Paper pointed out one already. Please do tell when you find an error in the list and I will fix it.

 1. Ryu: beats both
 2. Juri: loses to U2
 3. Guile: whiffs to U1, beats U2
 4. Ken: whiffs to U1, whiffs or loses to U2
 5. Chunli: beats both
 6. Blanka: whiffs or loses to U1, Beats AA U2 and loses to AG U2
 7. E.Honda: loses to U1, beats U2
 8. Dhalsim: beats U1, whiffs or loses to U2
 9. Zangief: beats U1, beats or whiffs to U2
 10. Ibuki: beats both
 11. Abel: loses to both
 12. Rufus: beats U1, with proper spacing can beat U2 but there is risk of losing to it as well.
 13. Makoto: beats U1, beats or whiffs to U2
 14. C.Viper: beats U1, beats or whiffs to U2
 15. El Fuerte: beats or whiffs to U1, beats U2 (lol)
 16. Dudley: beats both
 17. M.Bison: beats U1, loses or whiffs to U2
 18. Vega: whiffs to U1, loses to U2
 19. Seth: whiffs or loses to U1, loses to U2
 20. Sagat: loses to U1, beats U2
 21. Balrog: beats both

I will finish the list tomorrow, expect an update to this list soon

EDIT: @KumaOso: looks like we were posting at the same time  thanks a lot man, really really appreciate the effort. I did my spark with some distance, not at point blank, so it seems that caused some differences like Ken U1 and Honda.

I know for a fact that Elf’s ultra can beat Rufus’ ult 2 with proper spacing.

You’re posting results of a half-assed experiment (no offense)

The truth is if you want to give a clear list of what you can and cant counter ultra there are a lot of variables that need to be accounted for.

That being said, just block it and ultra. (or ex guac over and ultra if you would get chipped to death)

First of all, no offense taken.

I tried each one of my results several times before posting, but that doesn’t mean it will be free of error. I did it against Rufus U2 easily more than 10 times with slight differences in spacing (never at point blank though) and the spark always lost. However, after reading your post I tried doing it again and in a couple of instances the spark did actually beat it. I still can’t identify the spacing that will make it work consistently.

My point of making the list is for it to eventually be free of error, so if you find out that there are other errors in it or variables that are unaccounted for, please tell me and I will edit it. After I am done with it I will redo it all over again just to double check myself as well. For now it is just a prelimenary list, hopefully it will grow to something more meaningful as people figure out more details.

Theres a post somewhere with buktooth saying fuertes new target combo is useless.

It beats blankas electricity for free.

It also works as a great stopping tool against a lot of charge attacks, such as Balrog, Dudley, E, Honda’s headbutt, and even Blanka’s roll. Problem is that it requires some precise timing. I think jabbing is easier and safer.

i actually like his target combo alot. its realativly quick and stuff alot of pokes. i cant complain , though i need to figure out how to encorporate it more.

Far mp and qbomb do the job for me as far as beating blanka balls. Although I think car mk is good to mix up between shower kick. Hey that reminds me does far mk or target combo cancel into run?

block the blanka ball and punish with run slide, that is the only reliable solution.

no, cl. mk does not combo into anything.

meaty slide beats everything except uppercut iirc.

Wait, I tried this in super. It doesn’t work unless they’re not blocking. When blocked, he’s sent further than he was in vanilla. It’s the one thing that is annoying me right now. It gives him more of a right to spam the roll.

only ex uppercut beats it

I respectfully disagree paper.

far standing mp is better then before if you ask me, seems easier to time. And is an easy swatting of the blanka ball and sets him up for run stop baiting. Said baiting works nicely considering under normal circumstances we need to stay put.

All my run slide attemps were blocked. But I’ll have to double check. I know in vanilla I punished blocked balls with reversal run > slide.

I see el cor states his was getting blocked too but I’m gonna hold off on this until I play another blanka or two and look over the replays. I wonder if reversal run tostada or fajita would work now…

yes it does actually … i find myself using it more often in super as a poke miixup . i run in and throw out the target combo, but i always try to buffer the run just in case i want to go for a throw mixup ect. i have been trying to find ways to destroy my opponents brain! i have been using RSF -> EX Q-Bomb every once in a while too … its kinda tough

No.

Dudley’s reversal jet uppers and I believe ryu mp/hp dp were hitting me out of meaty slide.

Cammy’s cannon spike I was hitting her out of all day with meaty slide. With ex winning.

Let’s put these through training mode with fuerte spamming meaty slide before throwing out all encompassing generalizations that get us killed.

I’ve punished blocked blanka balls with run slides just like I had in vanilla – has worked as I’ve expected it to. Remember you have to block it standing.
