El Fuerte Matchups and Strategies v.2 ***Updated 02APR10***

Added info for Balrog matchup. I’ll be adding information into the ‘tricks’ section soon.

I do hope that everyone here has learned to stop tryng to do something EVERYTIME you wall jump… As awesome as it is, it is a real way to get predictable. Dont forget to control its distance and bait with it. Jesus, its a better bait ten Vega’s wall dive.

Why’d Vega have to suck… he was an alt of mine.

;_;

Another easy safe jump vs. sagat, after Ultra, whiff low LK, then jump in with deep HK.

Well, he’s getting buffed in Super so he’ll be a good alternate along with Guy/Ibuki/Makoto for us speed demon lovers.

Vs. Cammy

Safe jumps:

Tortilla, whiff MK guac, jumpin deep HK

Ultra, whiff low LK, jumpin deep HK

Run-slide, hold down, as soon as you see your character crouch, neutral jump HP.

Safe tortillas:

Tortilla grab, whiff LK guac, dash forward, tortilla all the way forward

Forward throw, dash in, immediately tortilla without pressing any direction(this one will grab her uppercut instead of missing it)

Guacamole grab, dash in, immediately tortilla without pressing any direction

Punishing her backdash:

Cammy’s backdash is hard to punish because it is fast and low, so the only option select that you can punish it with is Ultra. There’s 2 ways to deal with it, the safe but low reward way and the high reward way that is less safe.

The low risk way is with an airthrow. An example setup is:

Tortilla grab, dash in twice, run back then immediately cancel and hold up-towards. Do a really deep airthrow at the end of your jump. This one will grab her if she jumped or backdashed, and if she uppercuts, she will miss you. If she does nothing, you are in a fairly neutral position.

The high risk way is with a jumpin combo. Example of that is:

Tortilla grab, dash in 3x, run back then immediately cancel and hold up towards and hit HP. You’ll land right on the recovery at the end of her backdash and get a full combo to punish. This is more risky though, since you will be jumping over her head when she wakes and she can airthrow you, or jump back and hit you, or DP you after you pass over.

Random matchup tips:

When under pressure from cammy with no meter, perform option select throw tech with down + LP + LK + HP. You’ll tech her throw attempt, and if she went for a tigerknee dive kick a low HP will come out and hit her.

She can punish your tortilla with a instant air ex dive, even ones that are normally safe.

You can punish a blocked uppercut with run in and RSF, or ultra.

#1 priority is to build meter before fighting her. If she knocks you down and does her meaty hooligan tricks and you don’t have meter, you literally can’t escape as far as I know. Option select EX run back tech is invaluable if she gets the momentum going on you.

Your best antiair is an airthrow or an ex guacamole. Low HP is iffy because if she alters her jump with ex dive then you’ll lose. Her jump RH is also very beefy and long, like Ryu’s, so if you are in doubt, just block and look for your chance to tech a throw or spend an EX run to escape.

You can’t antiair cammy with ultra if she has meter at all. If she has no meter, you can do it if she jumps backwards because she can’t perform her non-ex dive kick when jumping backwards.

Like Sagat, don’t do stuff like meaty slide, random splash, jabjabjab pressure strings, often at all vs. Cammy, especially when she has 2 meters. Uppercut FADC uppercut takes off a ridiculous ton of life.

Random Tip of the Day:

Zangief’s EX Green Hand is -9 on block, and Fuerte’s close st. fierce comes out in 8, so there’s no reason to ever punish with a throw. RSF all day. It’s not a difficult frame punish.

that’d mean gief has to do the green hand point blank, I don’t think you can RSF if he does it from a distance so he hits late

http://allisfighter.com/blogpost.aspx?id=62253
wasn’t sure if this was posted anywhere, heres more info on fuertes ult

If you dropkick zangief while he’s doing green glove he can piledrive you.

No. Everytime I dropkicked Gief I backdashed or jumped back. Mind your distance. See the distance from where both characters start? If you dropkic /green hand at same time your clean and clear for a counterhit dropkick.

I call lag

With how good this ultra looks…I wonder what use the giga buster is going to have. Noone will ever pick that crap since I bet you can antiair with the U2 also. I’m also sorta glad for the sake of the game that fuerte’s normals weren’t buffed tbh…if he got that plus this broken ass ultra he’d just break the game wide open.

Fuerte’s dropkick is never a free piledriver. You can simply look at the frame data and see this, not to mention personal experience.

Unless it deals significantly more damage… It’s not gonna be used. Some people didnt like the idea of selectable ultra for SFIV for this very reason. that it would void out other ultras.

I’ve lost all faith in far RH vs. Gief

I started using it to much and now theres this gief that on reaction focuses the first hit, back dashes the 2nd hit and punishes with a green hand or (god help me) whiffed far RH (gief’s big leg) to ultra.

Life sucks.

D: oh god no… another tool lost vs Gief…

For Seth, I find as soon as he walljumps towards you it’s a free ultra. If someone can test this just to confirm, but it has always worked for me.
Also if you can c.fp when he j.fp limps, you will trade with him but he will take more of the damage than fuerte.

Wow, yeah, good call, you’re absolutely right. Your comment goes hand in hand with today’s article about not falling into the frame data trap and relying on it too much. I should test what you’re able to punish a blocked EX Green Hand with at max range.

you can punish with jump back.

It’s possible to RSF punish the ex green hand no matter where he does it if you block, in an offline environment it’s not too hard if you p-link it. Online, I just throw him unless I’m real far behind and have to go for it.

You can also punish blocked green hands with ultra, if you want.

ok question. my brother tends to spam f+mk followed by crmk for pressure, can I get in a fucking ex run or SOMETHING as it seems I just cant escape it, or is the only option I have a friggin jump back? The Ken matchup is aggravating as his dp is there on missed block string, dropped RSF, can’t tortilla it, everytime I do a safe one it gets hit with an auto correct (I hate this auto correction garbage), Can’t guac him due to that amazingly beefy jRH,it’s just like, well shit what the hell can I do?

It sucks enough that he knows better then to jump needlessly and rarely fireballs so opportunities for anything are pretty scarce , I think he’d wipe me out totally if he actually used throws

I think Ken is harder than Ryu and Sagat for Fuerte, he can be really annoying with his pressure. One thing I like to do to make him stop spamming f.mk is dropkicks. If you do one right after he does f.mk with the proper distance you will stuff it. If you miss the proper timing and do it a bit early you might trade. And if he is too close, his f.mk wins, so try not to let him get too close with it and stuff it before that.

On his wakeup, I find doing safe jump crossups a lot better than tortillas against Ken, but I try to mix it a bit to not get very predictable with the crossups.

Yes you can. Ex Run Stop Throw nullifies f.mk completely. Just absorb the f.mk and throw him outta his recovery. You can Ex RSF too if the distance’s good.

You CAN safe tortilla Ken. Safe tortilla should not get hit by a dp, no matter what. What you’re looking for though is not to beat his dp, ala Ryu’s and Akuma’s, but rather to cause it to whiff, like against Sagat.

Taking this into consideration, buffer ex guac, ultra, or prepare to jump up airthrow the moment you input a tortilla. This may take a little getting used to, but get your spacing right and punishing whiffed dps after a safe tortilla should be second nature after a while.

The beefy j.hk can be ex guac-ed. it’s hella slow and completely ultra-able too.

In short, against Ken, make sure you tech his throws, punish his whiffed dps, get him in the corner, and don’t do over elaborate block strings. he’s tricky to deal with at first but is by no means an impossible matchup for Fuerte.

hope this helps.
