hey. ive been having issues against abels!! i can really only beat them if my wake up game is on! ive been tryin to figure out how to throw in the rsf but most of ablels moves start with jabs and stuff so its hard to focus his attacks and his lame flip kick is armor breaking. wtf do you guys do against abel in order to throw in some rsf action?

Abels catch on and start either rolling or Dashing excessively while you kill the clock, punish that.
I’m starting to wonder if Q-bomb is useful in this matchup when you are playing keep away. I think I’ll experiment with it in training mode, if Q-Bomb beats CoD, we might just make poor Abel another guy who can’t catch fuerte.

LK guac beats wheel kick on reaction.
release a mk (my prefrence) Q bomb whenever he focuses.
Slide for knockdown, slide right before his wake up to teleport to his other side and then drop a far rh.
If far RH is a counter-hit or hits him on his crouch block hit him with a C.mk loop (this will beat his throw since you’re in the air with a far hk)
if he jumps the far hk will juggle him, hit him with a guac

When he fucks up, do the RSF, Otherwise punish shit with what can be punished, keep it simple.
Brainz has actually done it a bit differently. He’s actually hit Gief withthe standing MK. If you do it earlier so Fuerte’s foot is in Gief’s face as the screen freezes, your MK will whiff as well, and with your quicker recovery, you can do anything you want, including RSF.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any way to record video of this. You can try in training mode by setting Gief to spam Ultra.
I think it’s really hard to land RSF on an opponent who’s playing it safe. If you work on your other tricks though, it forces your opponent to do high risk stuff to get out.
One thing I can think of is if you think Abel will do f+MK, EX Run to absorb, immediately cancel into Fierce.
Not sure if this is known or not, but I just found out that Fuerte’s s.MP shuts off Fei Long’s ultra.
yeah i don’t really RSF too much. punishing whiffed/blocked reversals and level 2 focuses are generally the only times i attempt it.
i prefer tortillas or cs.hk -> guac to punish like 90% of my punishes.
and the almighty punishing reversal attempt when you’re RSFing.
That match up is sooo retarded, the only opportunity you have to rsf is if he gets to predictable with his strings and you can tell when hes gonna fwd mk you can focus crumple that. Other than that you have to grind out your damage against this french bitch. The only thing that makes this match up bearable is that you can land ultra on abel pretty easy.
Needs more Q-Bomb
Yes, Q-bomb really helps against Abel. This is really the only matchup that I try to keep one charged as much as possible.
- Q-bombs and slides work great against Abel.
- Abel doesn’t have great wakeup options so make sure to capitalize on that, the one who applies the best pressure in this matchup is the victor.
- Don’t be too predictable with jumping away from him, or you will eat lots of wheel kicks and skyfalls.
- A lot of his moves can be punished on reaction with tortillas.
- Saving the meter specifically for ex runs is very important in this matchup, its the best way to get away from his annoying pokes.

Do not qbomb from too close. Otherwise he’ll grab your ass out of it. Use it for when he wheel kicks or slams dash or gies fir his lame focus
To the discussion on Sobat on the previous page, Sobat is great for continuing a combo where your attacks are moving the character away from combo range. You can usually follow up an attack with a quick run.stop.Sobat and the combo will still be going. It’s great for going into your Super.
Don’t use Qbomb against Abel…
On block it can be punished by his ultra.
Don’t use EX run away from Abel either, they will begin to Tornado throw you out of it each time.
I’ve found q-bomb effective versus wheel kicks and fa spam. Not as a normal attack.
Just make sure you don’t be predictable with Qbombs and EX-runs, otherwise you will be punished as Dawgtanian mentioned. Qbombs are good against his wheel kicks or FAs so use them as a punish when you are sure it will hit.
About Ex-runs, what I do sometimes on wakeup is that I do one dash away and then ex-run, it helps in evading his tornado throw if he started getting too happy with it. Never stick to one way of escaping though, mix it up to be able to escape his pressure and get back in the game.
