El Fuerte Matchups and Strategies v.2 ***Updated 02APR10***

i wonder what densuo is up for… :stuck_out_tongue:

I have some catching up to do. I’ve been away since I got Double Perfected by life, my bro’s PS3 went Kaput, and my Comp caught the dreaded sality virus thanks to my sister’s Limewire use (and my failure to keep closer tabs on that + proper AV usage)

I plan on reading everything in the top and seperating all the info into proper segments and then add them to either the front main post or, more likely, individual posts like the ones that cover matchups. I was thinking of making an individual post for ‘tricks’ if you will, known glitches, and even a separate post listing what needs confirming… I just need time.

So yeah, please excuse my epic failure. I’ll have this thread caught up by the end of the week.

that said, i can honestly say that im looking forward to it
theres been so much info lately overall that it needs this kinda “clean up”.

Your work is always appreciated Densou, very well organized. Looking forward to the updates, take your time

I was just doing some training against Bison, and I found out about this, I am not sure if this is already well known or not, but I hope it helps: (I posted this in the “Dash” thread but I thought it might be better to have it in the official matchup thread)), its regarding Bison’s EX headstomp:

"If you do psychic EX guac (meaning right before he does EX headstomp or almost at the same time) then he will win. However, if you do it after he does, you will either escape through it or even catch him if you do the timing well. Try it in training, I just did and I caught EX headstomp with EX guac several times cleanly without a trade.

Something on that note, if you want an easier way to beat EX headstomp without even wasting EX meter, just jump and hk! If you jump in place (without right or left direction) Fuerte’s hk in air (aka his ass) beats all headstomps (EX and none) cleanly. If you do it a bit late you might trade however. "

gotta try that neutral jump hk, sounds nice  i mean in the way of humiliating your opponent

+1 on block…
sux cant post much …i have to invest in another ps3 system,sf4,and a stick…my stuff got yoinked/stolen …but i still have frame data and they didnt steal my fuerte notes
its killin me…i was up to 10+ with the infinite…hope to be set by january or feb. …i will go insane if not!

Good luck man, hope things work out for you very soon.

Whoa. Sucks to hear about your stuff being taken Munchi. Hope you’ll be back up and running soon, even though I don’t know you (or anyone else on the site)well.

About EX headstomp, personally I don’t have the reflexes to beat it(unless it’s telegraphed) so I just block. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a funny story about Bison’s Devil Reverse though. One time I anticipated my opponent’s Devil Reverse and timed a nice Ultra for him, but Bison has air control practically all the way, so he switched direction AFTER I did the Ultra and I missed by an inch for the lose. I then tried this on a weaker Bison player another day, anticipated the direction switch and adjusted my range, but he DIDN’T change direction and I missed for the lose again. :crybaby:

Back to Gordita Sobat.

  • Follow up with focus attack as an extra option. Works pretty well.

  • Frame advantage on block isn’t exactly enough to beat out certain characters with really fast pokes. However, lots of people aren’t used to the timing on the recovery. In fact a lot of other players think Fuerte has disadvantage on block, so you tend to get away with a lot.

Let’s Kill Shotos Together

I’m always looking for ways to make the opponent want to do something. Quick example: Tostada Press till they start standing up to try and block, then do a Slide, so they want to block low, they do a tostada press, or do Tortilla Buster/Propeller til they want to jump, but reinforce them to stay on the ground by peppering them with Tostada Press/Slide.

My method needs to get strong though. I need to know how to make them crouch, but by them, I’m really talking about Shotos. It seems more often than not that Shotos would rather Shoryuken than crouch. For example, if I do something to make them want to crouch (like slide or tortilla buster), their trigger finger is ready to fire off shoryken’s rather than crouch any day. That coupled with SFIV’s magical shortcut system makes srk’s come out even more easily. Haha.

So I’m looking for a strategy specifically against Shotos to make them crouch and not shoryuken.

Use feints to train him not to throw out dp’s. (feint and punish whiffed dragons) Then start mixing your feints in with slides. Once youve hit him with a few meaty slides, (not in a row, obviously, although that IS surprisingly effective if done sparingly.) they’re probably either going to start throwing dragons out again, or block low.

Obviously this isn’t a flawless strategy, but its probably a good point to start from. And obviously the opponent has more options than ‘block low or DP’

 appriciate it guys…we all talk on here…we all play fuerte…meaning were all cool peeps lol.
on a positive note  i think fuerte gets away with alot…gordita is like most of fuertes moves…you cant abuse them over and over…if you cant be read by your opponent then you can get away with almost the whole arsenol that fuerte has…there were alot of matches where i used the majority of his moves and got results.

Thanks ILL_BILL. I’ll make sure to incorporate that into my gameplay.

I dont think there is a specific strat to make shotos crouch, at least for your lower end g1 shotos. Even if you punish there dp’s seven times in a row they either don’t give a fuck, or have meter to try fadc. So I would just make sure you get your safe tortilla down and splash them do death.

Better advice than what i gave. Safe tortilla is the shoto killer imo.

I’m getting tired of my main option being to down a shoto as soon as he gets up. I want to be able to do more, I guess. Shower kick, Jab, Jab, Jab, Jab, Jab, cr. Forward xx run , sudden stop, Jab, cr. fwd. You know what I mean. From my experience, Safe Tortilla is punishable with jumps, and good dashing on wake-up.

Its not punishable with jumps at any rate. If theyre punishing you with these, then youre timing it wrong.

Backdashes im personally a little sketchy on. Ive punished backdashes before, (free throw if your timing is on point) but been punished by them as well, probably due to my tortilla being timed poorly. meh. And if theyre backdashing, you have other options to get around it.

Use those blockstrings too. Theres no reason not too. Just watch out for mashed out DP’s.

Safe tortilla is not punished by jump unless you don’t follow up on it. As soon as they jump and you recover from the tortilla, do lk guac right after and you will still catch them in air and keep them pinned (airthrow also works if you are fast enough), even following up with an ultra right after tortilla works in many cases (be careful of EX tatsu as it can waste your ultra by keeping them in air).

Of course you can use the jabbing strings and corpse hopping, those are good techniques but not against people who love to mash DP on wakeup. Use safe tortilla enough so that they barely use DP. Make them learn dashing so that then you can start using your slides, which work great against dashing but poorly on DP (note that if you do the slide from far enough it will slide right below the DP and then you will recover before them and be able to punish). Do some normal throws once in a while. do neutral jump and cross fierce punch, it avoids DP and dash if timed right. I also LOVE doing run back (to give them the impression that i will do tortilla and let them jump) and then stop and give them EX guac. You have a LOT of options against shotos, so mix them up well.

Haha, thanks akashwan. I also love doing EX guac when they jump. It’s so satisfying.

As for block strings, what of block strings do you like to use? It’s kind of hard since none of fuerte’s normals chain (right?). I have been working on my links like crazy though. Shower kick to jab was the first one I tackled.

Unfortunately, I am not the best person to ask on this, I tried some that were in the trials, but I am still not very consistent (many of the block strings seem to include the gordita sorbat), I need to train more to be able to answer this properly. Of course you have the basic ones like triple jabs, shower kick followed by s.lk and then c.mk, or the one you mentioned. Here is a video that brainz has posted in the video thread, I think this Fuerte player demonstrates the use of block strings to almost full potential, i hope you can get some that you can use: (credit to brainz for this awesome video of course)
