El Fuerte Matchups and Strategies v.2 ***Updated 02APR10***

I fight an Abel on the DAILY and I know that the SLIDE is one of the worst moves to do against him. If he blocks, he has pleeenty of time to Tornado Throw, which cannot be tech thrown! In fact, even if he doesn’t block, he can EX Tornado Throw (which is hit immune). Aside from that, the Abel player I spar with knows the backdash timing for my run->slide. He takes full advantage of the 8 frames. People, please STOP recommending Slide as the main weapon against Abels. If he does Wheel Kick, don’t try and Slide. Just run back and Tortilla, or do a crouching Fierce (antiair). So much easier, and less risky.

You are wrong. Run slide is fucked, but c.hk usually gives you massive frame advantage.
Far HK on his wake-up is great as well.

If you’re talking about “teleporting” to the other side of the character by using C. RH on their wake up I have a full list at home.

Your wrong its actually really good on wake up I play one of the best abels in the country and he has to be super psychic to ex TT or you have to be hella obvious and be crouching on his wake up. Of course if you use it alot people can guess so use it sparingly, if you have an abel who is just trying to TT you on his wake up st HK is really good in this match up.

P.S. you should never be run sliding people on wake up hella punishable.

Okay, so in summary:
Calamari Slide–> Risky and easily Punishable
c.HK (Sweep)–> Less Risky, provides “massive” Frame Advantage

Against Abel waking up, instead of doing far HK so it hits as soon as he wakes up, I’ve been delaying it juuust a little bit, especially midscreen, because I kept getting EX TT’d or Skyfall’d from my extended hitbox. This way he misses with the grab and then gets kicked. Been doing something similiar with RUN–>Splash. Delaying the splash because he started doing well timed Skyfalls. Of course, this isn’t an all the time thing, I just try it once in awhile when I sense a Skyfall coming.

If you know he is going to grab you out of the air then why don’t you just use slide instead of delaying a splash or hell just RSF it…

i can honestly say that the caramel slide is really punishable overall… i would suggest if something works good at wakeup-options against an opponent (dumb ex.: splash) then just abuse it all over the place :smiley:

to the abel topic: doesnt safe tortilla work against skyfall grab? i mean the REAL safe tortilla :wink:
another question: what about fajita buster against skyfall grab?

Abel can skyfall fajita buster, tostada press, unsafe tortilla, all depending on timing and angle of attack, of course. If you do REAL safe tortilla, his skyfall won’t catch because of the angle. I’m pretty sure he cannot skyfall the flying gigabuster… but he can skyfall the far HK and a dash (specifically backdash in my experience.) With that said, I wonder if he can skyfall close MK, since it is invulnerable to low attacks for a frames.

Caramale slide should be used in combos or after you EX run through something with high recovery

gotta live up this thread again! im having troubles with the seth matchup… doing j.hk and j.fp in the air against his j.fp but if he does it to late im just whiffing =/

guac works well sometimes but its rather psychic, same goes for focus… i tried so much but if i aint close to him theres no “getting inside”… any advices?

ps.: im trying to turtle a bit if i got life lead but his accelerating jump is like fuertes so he pressures me again and i lose a chunk of life :frowning:

I am not very fimiliar with the Seth matchup, but I know that if he likes to jump with fp, then airthrow usually works wonders as it has a higher priority than his j.fp from my experience. Also, you can punish his accelerating jump with airthrow as well, this will make him less jumpy in general, and then you can apply your pressure from air more.

As for guac, I always use EX guac as it is safer and has extremely high priority, but I also tend to be a bit psychic about it so its not completely safe. Make sure you bait his wakeup teleports if he overuses them, you can run stop and then run again and hit him as he reappears, and in case you have ultra you can catch him as well.

Don’t throw him too much as he has a command throw that can catch you off gaurd, getting too close to him is not a very good idea imo as his combos can be very damaging as well. get a life lead and turtle a bit, then he will try and come to you, and the easiest way for him to get in and close the distance is his accelerated jump, thats when airthrow becomes crucial.

you can do EX run to get in too =) also run,stop xx guac(any version)…

i have been using something alot for the past few months that i feel i should share
*Gordita sobat ! its + on block (like by 1) this makes me happy because i thought i had no mixup purposes whatsoever…You can link cr.lp …so im guessing that makes it safe-ish because once you link the cr.lp you can run,stop mixup again cr.mk loop …which i have been using a great deal it has been a life saver aside from the RSF =) its sweet because like i mentioned before,when you do cr.mk and it counter hits you can RSF…
does the stuff seem useful for the rest of us fuertes? let me know

I was aware of this, but its good information nonetheless.

It’s gonna stay useless unless they fix it to break armor, give it more active frames or faster startup.
