El Fuerte General Discussion Thread

I really like this topic on speaking about fuerte’s potential or moveset. I still consider myself one of those fuertes who random out my opponent but I find as I learn more about the game, playing the game, I can mix them out way better. One obvious example is learning that scrub shotos mash dat dp si i constantly cross them with a splash (don’t know rsf yet, getting three hits 60% of the time). If the shoto blocks the cross instead i then know I have to bait it out instead of simply raping it. At this point I pretend to be a scrub and approach with wall jump fierce punch and then eventually don’t jump the whole way, voila, failed dp and then either slide or ghetto rsf (hk ex guac).

Definitely fuerte’s game is dependent on opponent. But I think el coro (i hope i got it right) may have been referring to let’s say, bad mus, or people who know how to fight a fuerte. Le’s say atm one of my problems is akuma and his roundhouse kick that avoids all my shit if i call it, and also honda who sits back and if i move a second i eat a headbutt or anything else.

Which reminds me of my questions;

  1. Is there anyway to punish bison’s purple attack (both the jumping one and the one when he comes at you)?
  2. Any punish for honda’s headbutt?
  3. I’ve been having trouble with vega as well, what do i do agianst his wall shenanigans? An do i camp him out or get in there?

Made a video on Fuerte’s Armor Cancel Ultra 2.

Vega’s one of my Most hated match ups. I hate that fricken invincible backflip like the devil. slide > slide doesn’t always hit it for me for some reason.

Any way Other then Vega’s Backflip he’s pretty free on wake up. So try to stay on him

If he does the wall jump > izuna drop/claw You will have enough time on reaction to either: Jump butt kick him or air grab him out of it.

Other then that don’t let him poke you. Vega has much better pokes and range then you do and can keep you out with them.
This is a fight I tend to turtle depending on whats happening. Its very annoying sometimes to try to get in on Vega as he’s poking around with that claw so I try to get him to come to me.

Also don’t try to punish his rolling ball move if your blocking it tends to lead to him counter hitting you into stupid dmg

honda headbutt can be punished on reaction by dropkick (s.rh).

and if you are in the corner, you can punish a blocked headbutt with U2.

If vega likes to spam back flip, you should be raping him. Each flip type looks different so there should be no guessing.

I don’t like that match up at all.

Bison devil reverse. Run back tortilla if he goes for it.

Stuff headbuts with standing mp.

El Fuerte is a character where you don’t just play him, you pilot him.

Headbutts are better punished with st. HK not st. MP (Not EX though)

And if Vega does his backflip you can OS run.

ok so wait. Like do i do the st. hk before it comes to me? Or do i do it after he hits my block? And Paper i understand where you are coming from, but those are the things people abuse against me that i need to overcome. I love fuerte, he’s what got me into sf4.

Btw, vega’s backflip is annoying but it’s his aerial game off the wall that shuts me down. I don’t know how to punish before or after it’s animation and when i predict one of his jumps and i go for an airgrab i eat a grab or the hit itself regardless. That’s whats fucking me up.

for Honda, you do st.hk on reaction, meaning before it comes to you as opposed to after blocking. Another way to beat it is j.fierce if you time it right as well.

regarding Vega, airgrab is good and should work, just do it more in training through record to check on timing (jumping on reaction to his start up wall animation will either get his wall jump attempt with airgrab or avoid his sky high calw attack, so its relatively safe unless you mess up the timing). Another way to handle wall jumps is to just absorb with FA and dash away, you could even FA and punish into whatever you like if done from a proper distance. If you have low life and scared to eat damage from either option I mentioned then you can j.lk to interrupt him all day.

This.

I find timing st hk hard since im usually scared of hondas. But hey. Do what works best for you.

Edit: serious question: does anyone else find themselves using tortilla LESS often in super then they did in vanilla? By this I mean tortilla to land it for damage, not the safe tortilla.

If I posted how I did in my pool (N) at Evo this year in this thread already I don’t remember. I was drunk from around 11PM on Friday well into Sunday.

Pool N (3-2):

Beat a Chun/Seth
Beat a Balrog
Beat a Blanka
Lost to an Balrog <-- CJ the ShowStopper (apparently, I don’t know the guy)
Lost to an Adon) <-- GamerBee

I was so close to beating GamerBee :frowning:

Don’t use El Fuerte when you’re sick lol, I went on a losing streak and my temperature rose.

As already discussed, you have to be in your prime to play El Fuerte. Otherwise, you can’t think straight, nor can you execute as well.

You guys aren’t talking to me, but just to say, I didn’t get drunk until AFTER I was knocked out of the tournament. And there is a reason I didn’t play any money matches.

I usually mash HK all day vs Honda, I have almost no real experience because I play mainly online ;-; And I don’t use Tortilla as much either and I don’t know why.

When I drink I usually get some serious drunken master type fuerte play, where you cant read how I’m coming at you, and you cant hit me. It’s pretty awesome. Unfortunately that point is finely balanced between being sober and being tanked. Drink too much or too little and I have no positive results in my fuerte play.

Fun fact: When I was playing in the Salty Suite, at one point I had double vision I was so drunk. Messed up safe tortillas pretty easy that way lol

I find that I use more of Fuerte’s pseudo block strings now rather than relying on tortilla shenanigans. Guess the less damage all around and less priority of SRKs in general makes it more feasible to go slightly rush down with Fuerte.

I’m still stuck being oldschool and using tortilla a lot because people get easily mixed up in to it when you use cr. hk or splashes. I’ve yet to learn the run stop pressuring but man that shit is too good. But man i hate when the smart ones back dash and I have to airgrab that ass.

hey guys i wasn’t at evo but i’m looking at some pictures that people took of evo and did any of you guys manage to see this particular fellow?
