El Fuerte General Discussion Thread

Okay. No different voices or anything when he performs it?

A lot of people seem to think that random DP’s, or invincible/armored moves “own fuerte for free.” Please, don’t focus on splash mixup as the only part of his game. It is an indispensable tool, but its not all he has. Mainly use it to gain a lead, establish some offense, set up other things. DO NOT FORGET RUN ~ STEP BACK(LK). Just about anything that’s gonna take you out of the splash mixup, will leave some amount of vulnerability if you run-stepback or run-stop.

Im looking for clues in the vs blanka fight. Mainly best answer for a baited wake up electricity. Im sure a c.forward will work… but thats not a much damage. Perhaps a slide, but it is quite slow so Im not certain. We’re thinking maybe a wall dive attack might be able to get in there, or EX chestpress, aka the worst move in the game (charge two kicks for 3+ seconds?.. ugh.) Possibly, a well placed run-mk kick move… his foot seems to stick out sort of far, might work. Also, Im thinking a well placed focus attack might do it. Im theorizing putting the focus right on top of him, because the electricity doesn’t do multiple hits very quickly, to my knowledge. Its like 1… later on 2. These are just proposals. At any rate, if you do bait it, you can at least get something, and risk nothing, so that’s fine for now.

A good tool in the vs blanka fight from calipower, fuerte can catch a blocked blanka with ultra. Useful!

Also, dont forget his airthrow, and his off the wall command throw (f+hp, or just hp off the wall out of run, I do believe).

Ok finally, video of El Fuerte Rape with double fierce combos:

and…** the infinite.**

FU#O@HFH#L@HKHSDJKHVODHCHAAA

that being said, vs blanka the splash mixup is pretty good vs him because it beats wakuep electricity 75% of the time and trades about 25% in my experience.

ive noticed that blanka’s elec hitbox is alot wider in this game, but its also shorter. maybe j.hp would work. did i mention already that you can reversal run HK slide a blanka ball on block to punish? shit is pretty easy.

I’m tired of seeing videos of fuerte vs people who have no idea how to either block cross ups or tech throws.

i love how someone walks in front of fuerte doing the “infinite”, and then it magically is not happening anymore. i wont deny its a loop but hes definetly getting pushed back…

uh… its hard to see the crossup coming… he can aim it either way. It doesnt always cross up. Then theres the grab option… you cant tech the command grab… and its hard to see a poke xx run stop grab coming, when youre scared of getting fierced to death.

I have confirmation that at least 6 fierces have been witnessed, with the note “I think its an infinite”.
Whether or not its an infinite… 6 fierces is gonna be a dizzy 90% of the time. Pushback is then negated.
OH and that was midscreen anyway.
Arguing about whether its an infinite or not is pretty pointless. Its obviously fucking great, and thats all that matters imo.

Im thinking 3-4 stand fierces max character dependent.

Edit: just saw your post. 6? Yikes.

that’s it, I’m learning him. I wasn’t interested when he was bottom tier but if he has an infinite, I’m there!

So what’s the command? is it being cancelled into something or are you just walking forward with frame advantage, ala dic’s st. short in ST. EDIT: I’d guess he’s cancelling into and out of his run?

I’m not referring to the dash mix up game at all. I’m referring to the videos i keep seeing of fuerte that get posted anywhere. They are always vs some person who has no clue what fuerte is going to do.

And out of all the fuertes i played, 90% are throwing that body splash shit to cross up.

towards the end of the 1st video he tries meaty c.rh… i like it

the combo is hp, qcf+p, lp, hp.

or [fierce, run stop, fierce, run stop]

I am not certain if you need to run with a certain strength. I doubt it.

Mod: Aside from anecdotal evidence proving nothing…of course they are doing it now… its a crutch. he is a high maintenance character and thats the most abusable thing he has. Im sure 90% of the shotos you play throw fireballs and do uppercuts… same thing. Does that mean thats all to their gameplay? No.
I mean I understand that you want to see videos of him doing more, but the crossup is almost ambiguous and incredibly hard to defend against when setup perfectly anyway. Its fast… I mean what else is there to say? No matter what 90% of the Fuertes you played against did, you can either cross up the move, or not cross up the move. Its glaringly obvious that the best choice is to cross up with it initially, you are going to go for what is successful. Dont know how many other ways I can put it.

ive been playing in beginner mode trying to get that infinite but the timing if way damn fast. he doesnt get pushed back like you guys are saying because he is constantly canceling into the run, where he, you know, runs forward. eventually enough people will get the timing down

the splash/jump grab mixup is incedibly effective (notably on zangief who needs to waste ex green hand to get out). im backing up skisonic here. i do a great deal of my damage with it. the mp jump even slams people trying to jump up back down. its also mad easy to bait everyone with an uppercut into doing one with a simple run stop. if you keep splashing the shit out of them on their wake up, everyone eventually gets frustrated and starts spaming uppercuts. thats good if you’re looking out for it.

that shit beats kens ultra too, shinryuken. if ken trys to ultra when fuerte is comming down from a splash. actually most of the time the two miss each other for some reason. and thats even better because you get a combo opening when ken lands.
ken bitches everywhere wasting their ultras

crossup splash will actually beat most ultras clean if not trade/ultra whiffs. some very notable exceptions ive seen:
c.viper
el fuerte <== i did this to keits at evo then he did it to me again later =p

i think non-crossup gets hit by alot more shit.

I’m not gonna believe that’s an infinite until I see an infinite with it.

Also, poor Fuerte. He seemed so interesting at first, and now to hear that he depends on nonsense like wakeup wall dive-like crossups and an alleged infinite, and still can barely compete? Sounds like a real great character…

Also, a lot of ultras are pretty vulnerable on startup.

El fuerte is just damn fun. But what the hell do you do when someone like honda gets a lead and turtles on you? Well, there may be an answer for that but I’ve been playing him for like 2 days and have just been learning the spacing and timing for that crossup/non-crossup body splash bullshit [of course].

He seems really good at lower level play, but I’m sure once you hit mid or higher you obviously can’t spam that crossup shit. Maybe set it up and get 2 of them in, but after that… then what? I was trying to mess with his normals and I can’t find a fast, long-ish poke. S.fierce is pretty slow it seems, and his s.forward is way shorter reaching than I thought. x_________x

Fuerte is too serious. Stories from all over are pouring in now!

I played a good Fuerte today. He had maybe 300 or so plays on his card, but only like a 20% win ratio. He worked hard for his wins, and was merciless with cross-up splash one or thrice, then mixing that up with the throw. Also, when I tried to do lots of jumping back tricks, he would run up under me and then do EX kick throw move. It actually was a pretty tough fight. I still won with my Gief maybe 4 times with only one loss to him, and I would guess that as a player, this guy was better than me. The trouble is if Fuerte can get you confused with the wake-up splash move it can really get frustrating.

Actually, if Fuerte just dealt a bit more damage (and the Chest Press would be changed to anything other than what it is now) he would be a pretty decent character I think.

There were two fuerte’s spotted in japan with over 80% wins on over 800 games each… Watch out…

I’ve put together a lot of the comments in this thread along with some other sources into an El Fuerte guide.

http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/jul/08/el-fuerte-street-fighter-4-character-guide/

I’ve credited people down at the bottom.

The problem I’ve ran into is there’s a lot of different opinions floating around about whether El Fuerte is any good or not.

He seems like he’s alright, but that his damage is so terrible it’s difficult to win with him consistently.

Do you all have anything you’d like me to add into the guide or change?

I’m trying to weigh everything and stay balanced, but your opinions are appreciated.
