El Fuerte General Discussion Thread

It seems like since super was announced we have alot of new fuertes popping up haha. Also el fuerte has encouraged fitness, cultural diversity, and becoming a better person XD go fuerte.

It’s just so ironic that his cooking would actually kill you.

I plan to do this today at my Gamestop. Can’t wait to use that U2. Going to make fighting Bison, Blanka, and Balrog easier, the only three characters that annoy me.

I will be posting a SSF4 El Fuerte Master Thread soon.

The thread will include an introduction to Fuerte, a Fuerte FAQ section, information divided for beginners, pros, and playing from the point of view against Fuerte.

I will be writing this from scratch based on information only found in SSF4. I will also include videos displaying more complex areas for Fuerte.

I still promise on uploading replays, but don’t expect any until the second half of May. That’ll be my part in helping with the thread and community.

Good job on the thread Paper. There are a few info floating around on the matchup thread regarding Guy and T.Hawk, and some others, so they might work as a good starting point for the new cast (up to your judgement and how you plan to populate the thread). Also, some of the info in the matchup thread regarding the old cast might still apply, things like how some normals/specials beat other normals/specials in terms of priority, that could save you some time to be able to focus more on the new aspects of the matchups.

Played SSF4 so far. Fuerte’s far HK got gimped. Like, so much beats it out, such as jabs now. That, or they just upped the priority on a lot of people’s moves. He no longer can use it as a safe poke. Next thing is his run back -> jump away. You have to run a little more before you can leap out of jumping attacks range. Like, I kept eating jumping attacks because the arc seemed smaller. I was using the LP version, so I’ll see if the other versions let him leap away faster and more horizontal. It was that or I shouldn’t have been up late playing the game. More at eleven.

HP nerf for many + EX guac buff = me very happy

@El_Cor: Dropkick still seems decent to me, but I haven’t tried it much yet. Any specific example of a move that it used to beat cleanly but not anymore? (I thought jabs worked before as well, are you sure this is new? I can’t seem to remember, since I used to do it mostly far away from jab range to keep some opponents from coming close).

Here is something that many of you will like, a good shot at Fuerte’s alternate costume:

looks too damn good, love the vibrant colors on it.

for reference, you can find the link to all new costumes here:

hahaha i can’t wait to rape with that costume on.

small bit of info i found while playing a mashing ibuki: meaty slide beats her ultra 2.

I know it is still to soon to really tell, but just from the bit that you guys have played, would you say he is high, mid or still low tier? Don’t really care where he is on the tier list, but more just wondering if you guys feel he is on even grounds with others now?

RSF feels weird in Super

Yes RSF is easier?/faster which will prob help most people…it helped me i went from 3-4 to 6-7…
Normals Link easier/faster, Extra damage on guac is really good. Since most of the new cast are small he has a good fighting chance but the matches are wacky.

I’ve been waiting for a good picture. Now to have this for my avy.

it seems like there’s a lot less time after a FA to start RSF… I’m missing on a lot of players as they crumple

Yeah for sure, especially with shotos. Going off SF4 timing, they’re already on their knees before the first cl.HP comes out making it whiff…do we know what causes the faster timing yet?

Of course it’s all speculation right now, but Fuerte definitely feels more evenly matched between all the characters. He might still have a few unfavorable matchups, but as somebody else stated, you don’t have to play 100% and then some just to get a win every now and again. Level 2 focus comes out super fast, so the ‘easier’ RSF is setup even more often. Ultra 2 has to be in the top 5 Ultras in the game at least…

You Fuertes know it takes a lot to play a decent game with our favorite luchador, and that sure hasn’t changed. We just have less working against us now. I dunno, when all is said and done I’d probably see Fuerte smack dab in the middle, high-mid at the highest.

P.S. Holy frijoles, that new alt pic looks niiice. I bet any color on that bad boy is gonna look great

I say he is a solid C-Tier at this point. But it’s a little misleading too, because his match-ups are fairly even with everyone.

I think Super just makes him more viable than he was before, no you don’t have to completely dominate your opponent in order to win, your chances in an equally skilled match are a lot higher just because you can actually get hit and still win a round now.

There is a new developer blog talking about some changes to all characters along with a picture of the alt.costume. I got my good friend and fellow SRK member Venomish to translate the part about Fuerte so that we share it here, here is the quick translation:

-target combo st.mk connects properly
-fajita buster bit more space between the two players after hit
-gordita sobat? 1frame faster
-guacomle leg throw uped the damage, including ex

-U2
throws both standing and crouching opponent
i cant say the slide is has a lot of range but it has invulnerable frames and it is quick to register as a throw
the damage is also more than U1
very easy to use

-c.lk more range

here is the link of the blog in japanese for reference: http://www.capcom.co.jp/blog/sf4/development_blog/2010/04/27_2192.html

Oh, very nice. I thought about posting the Google translation, but…yeeahh.

I noticed the larger distance after you land fajita, kinda nice I guess. Good to know gordita didn’t go completely unchanged, although a bit more damage on it would have been welcome. I’m surprised they didn’t mention any thing else about RSF besides “it’s still in”.

After almost 2 dozen hours on Super, I’m really happy with Fuerte’s changes. Maybe not his ‘changes’ so much as the fact that almost everybody deals less damage to him. That in itself helps considerably. Guac damage and U2 is just icing on the cake. Tengo mucha felicidad, hombres.

Regarding my prediction on where he will place in the tier list, I think he will be mid. Even if he ends up being low again (because a lot of the low-tier and mid-tier characters from before also got improved), he still fares a lot better in Super. In vanilla SF4, one thing that I noticed all the time is that in terms of tools, Fuerte had some very good ones. On a tool-only basis, he was evenly matched with most characters with very few exceptions. What really hurt him and made him a low tier is the difference in the damage he dealt compared to many other characters, so he mostly ended up having a disadvantage only because of HP & damage. In super, things are different, damage nerfing is going to help Fuerte the most in making a lot of his matches go even now (like they should have imo). His U2 helps him against characters where his tools were not very effective against, so I honestly think Fuerte has a good chance to place as a mid tier character, and to be taken a lot more seriousely.

Yeah, I am thinking solid C, MAYBE B tier, but either way things are looking much nicer in Super. I’ve already seen a pretty substantial increase in win rates in local matches.
