Wow… I thought for sure he was gonna eat that Ultra in the first round and third…
obvious but thank you anyway
repped…although I need to learn what to do agaisnt one rushes you down…usually its punish city for our beloved amigo but EX elec can catch me off guard…im getting use to the attack strings and set-ups…but timing is a factor
your right…Ex’s will rape
the blanka im having trouble agaisnt rarely jumps…its mostly hop, hop, focus cancel super…etc
if hes just hopping right up to you just slide or poke him out if it most blankas that do that are just waiting for you to jump or run back to hit you with a ball just run bait him alot and he will eventually ball where you can then punish. This match up is all about being patient thats why u see even TKD just crouch and wait against blanka this is by far besides honda elf’s worst match up.
Using c.MK is very effective against hops I believe, and I completely agree about being very patient. It can be a very stressful match, but not impossible since Fuerte does have the tools to counter most of Blanka’s attacks. Honda is harder because he deals more damage, and its not as easy to punish his attacks, but still not impossible since Honda is slower, so its easier to bait him and do wake up games on him, since his escape options are not as good as Blanka.
Nothing is impossible for our favorite luchador, he has the tools against all characters, but knowing when and how to utilize them takes a lot of practice and effort, as well as very precise timing, which is the reason I love Fuerte and main him, there is always more to learn and challenges to be taken :bgrin:
Blanka is an interesting case. Offline, blanka is not hard. You just turtle against him, play defense, and punish any attempt at offense, much like how tkd plays it. Blanka is really bad at fighting runaway/turtle because once you see through the gimmicks he really has no safe ways to attack. All blanka balls are stopped cold by stand strong as is his forward hop and you can antiair him with low fierce up close or if he is jumping with RH from a bit farther you can ex run into the jumpin and throw or start rslow forward(pretty good against people with no DP). As long as you don’t chase him around(this is very tempting, don’t do it) it is not a very bad match at all. If you knock him down with no meter or ultra, feel free to slide into him and start mixups off of that as he has no answer. If you block a slide, rslow forward a couple hits or low forward xx run back to try to bait something.
Online, Blanka is a bitch. You can’t turtle against him cause you can’t anti air him with input lag, nor can you react to and punish forward hops so stuff like forward hop to ultra and forward hop to up ball/throw etc etc becomes useful. He can do jab ball to throw or hit on you because it’s hard to react to ball with a stand strong online. If he does a fierce ball or slide and you are within half screen not blocking, you can’t block on reaction. You basically have to use the same strategy online as off and play very defensively, but it is much much harder because you can’t punish all the gimmicks on reaction online. If you are basing the matchup off of online play then you are facing it much harder than it actually is. Blanka is by far the most improved character online since reactions are the key to making blanka the low tier he truly is and online dulls that tremendously.
The most important thing about the matchup is getting rid of his ultra IMO. His ultra may be sorta crappy but it is a huge game changer in the fuerte matchup due to the threat of it. See, if not for his ultra, you could just slide into his wakeup every single time without any fear whatsoever, whether he had meter or not, because all he can do is EX upball, and you can punish that even if it hits you with your ultra. But sliding into him on wakeup when he has ultra is very dangerous since if fuerte eats blanka’s ultra the round is over. So if you can bait and get rid of his ultra then you can be a bit more offensive from there. A few ways that I’ve found are to do a slide too early on purpose so you recover in time to block(this works to bait ex up balls also), or to do baited block strings like low forward run stop nothing, slide jab jab nothing, etc.
Unless it is going to kill him, or you have a full lv2 ultra, I don’t recommend punishing his ultra with yours on block. Instead learn to punish it with lv2 focus to RSF, and save the ultra. RSF is comparable in damage to a lv1 ultra and if you keep your ultra, you take away his ex up ball on wake up which helps tremendously the rest of the round since he just used his ultra and now has no wakeup vs. you.
He can wake up with ex rainbow ball also but this will not hurt you, merely allow him to escape and burn his meter. If he does this vs. your slide you can even EX guac him out of it backwards if you are quick. Blanka’s meter is precious to him though in this match so if you can make him burn it that’s fine.
In general though you want to play very defensive in this match and do a lot of baiting and punishing his attempts to approach you with antiairs and stand strong.
agreed. We need to ascend the limits of fuerte…At times ive been able to Ultra away from blanka’s ultra during start-up…I am now doing this is other match-ups as well…costly yes but as long as have I Ex meter for support I go for it. Patience is a virtue, alot of players expect you to do off the wall loco splashes and what not…dont… a defensive fuerte can be dangerous
foward MK will save lives and put inner city kids in schools
there’s a live stream coming up saturday at a tournament if you guys want to watch me in action, ill post the link up then
well, just got elf to G2-A today after winning my 1st two tourneys i played on. feeling very accomplished. i switched from Sagat, to Gief, to Elf since the release. Great info in this thread.
My worst matchup statistically is still Blanka, but I think just turtling will help more. Honda used to be very bad, but I think I have a good grasp on it now.
Thx guys.
Agreed completely on Blanka’s Ultra. it is an absolute MUST dodge. I played several sets with my friend. and when I figured out how to make him throw out the Ultra and it was a wrap
I dont have a hard time vs Blanka at all in my experience. You have answers for anything he does on a block, plus Tortilla and Tostada(trades sometimes) beats his electric.
u gotta be careful of his weird jump and normals, and his Ultra does alot of damage(ever if blocked). But the beast is managable
ya its definitely more of an annoying match than hard one up much like everyone feels like towards fuerte no doubt
i will try to check it out…why not? post that ish
Should we consider making an El Fuerte guide on this board? I think it would be a good way to get more El Fuerte players.
I bring this up because for my other main Chun-Li, there doesn’t seem to be a general guide to her, and I plain on maining Viper in the future. I also doubt people would be willing to look through threads to find what they’re looking for.
EDIT: It seems Chun’s is in separate threads at least, same with Viper. I should’ve looked better.
Very nice write-up on the Blanka matchup, thanks for the tips!
I’ll have to try throwing out more standing strongs; I get hit by one too many Blanka balls and sometimes I try and Run Slide punish on block but he ends up blocking my slide.
Yesterday I played a Final Match in G1 Championship vs a Blanka and not once did he throw out his Ultra…I won, go figure.
So once Blanka has Ultra, don’t get sloppy and bait it out as hard as you can!
I agree, it would be great if there is a guide thread with all the strategies we mentioned in this thread against all characters organized in a couple of posts.
The Matchup thread has not been updated in a millenia. We need someone active to make a new matchup thread. Then we can rummage all the threads, grab things that have been confirmed by several players and post them in the new matchup / Strat thread.
I can do it, I don’t think it would be creating a useless thread. It’ll just take me some time to go through all the information and see what is confirmed or otherwise. But I’d rather get the ok from you Fuerte players.
i like
that would help a ton, espescially since I just recently started meaning fuerte
I would love that and highly appreciate it :lovin:
I’ll get started On Sunday. I’ll get started using info from the original Matchup thread, then work my way through General Discussion.
Man! i have been wishing this would come about for the past few days! i think that this will most def help a ton of people that are trying main the great luchador. It would be more useful to do this in my opinion… im amped about it! greatly appreciated
