Is it worth it to permanently work the Q-bomb into my game? My game is fine without it but I figure that since the Q-bomb is THERE that I might as well use it. Whenever I randomly throw it in, I’m never punished when it’s blocked because no one ever sees it coming.

Q-bomb has it’s place. If you’re having success with it then keep using it.

Nah. I don’t have too many problems with Rog or Bison. But I do sing this quite a fair bit if I come across Blanka, Chun or Honda.

Yes, use the Q-bomb in your Fuerte game. If you don’t, people will easily beat you with just jumping and attacking all the time. Not to mention the HK + Q-Bomb combo is always a nice, easy combo to throw out all the time. Just learn when to and when not to Q-bomb. For instance, certain characters have normals that can beat a non-EX version of the Q-bomb if they hit you with it with the right timing. I recommend using it right when they jump in the air or, if against a shoto, when they do tatsumaki in the air since that usually seems to out prioritize it.

Actually, other moves you ought to use it against:

Adon’s Jaguar tooth{Not sure if you counter the EX version of it with a Q-bomb, though. Though I’m certain an EX version of it will work}

HK Jaguar kick{you need REALLY good timing for this but it does work. Trust me, I’ve done it before}

Fei-Long’s flying kick attack thing{use it while he’s right in the middle of the attack and in the right position. I’m pretty sure the EX version counters normal guac’s, though, so watch out}

Can be used to count a shoto’s HP shoryuken. Not really advisable against MP or LP version however.

Cannot be used to counter Ibuki’s shoryuken, however, EX guacs will troll the shit out of them in such a situation.

The move in general is all about positioning and timing. It’s definitely a very good anti-air if used right, however, don’t rely on it too much. Remember, you also have a normal aerial throw and C.HP which works will for countering anti-airs. You can also perdict where you’ll opponent will land when they jump and use a run to avoid the attack and use a tortilla as a reversal. This requires really good timing, though, so you may need to practice it. Hell, in some situations, you may need to use the EX version of it to make it work. Also Make good use of both ultra’s, too, to punish anti-airs since those two ultra’s are a great asset to Fuerte. Personally, I use U2 but I think U1 is better for anti-air’s even with the lower damage output but it can’t be whipped out in as many situations as U2 can. Choose wisely.

You are using Quesadilla bomb correctly. You do not put it in the game. you use it so sparingly that no one sees it coming. that is EXACTLY how to use Q-Bomb.

It’s official, me playing as El Fuerte is like a workout routine. If I don’t do play for a while, I get sloppy.

I think some of my issue comes with that attack after the first knockdown. I often try for the cross-up splash, but I just screw up a lot. I probably should just spend some serious time in training mode working on perfecting the cross-up. Been trying to work on the RSF in training, too. I can hit one fierce > run, stop > fierce about 40% of the time, and that number feels like its quickly increasing (I’d want at least a good 80% before I’d feel battle-ready with it).

Played a first-to-ten with a guy yesterday, and while I lost 10-0 (he severely outplayed me in the middle), it didn’t feel TOO bad, like I was starting to find a bit of a groove with Fuerte (I nearly took a few of those matches :D). I obviously have a long way to go, but at least my mind set seems to be changing.

Now I just need to get Fuerte’s theme on my Zune and set it on loop while I play.

Quesadilla bomb does not combo off of HK. Only guacamole, tostada, and Super do.

Fp to qbomb is a bad idea. You should combo RSF or run slide or run bait.

playing balrogs who love to blindly do rush punches is what forced me to integrate Quesadilla into my game. the only one i don’t use is EX since it takes too long to charge and requires 2 buttons to use.

i really love using it for chip kills. when the other player is sitting there waiting for fuerte to do a tostada or tortilla or slide and instead choose to dance back and forth charging quesadilla. it makes a swell surprise to use (at my rate) once a fight.

still can’t do runstop for more than 3 reps (yet) so i instead choose to see what else he can use that he has. like his little target combo which stuffs random things and the standing mp which is much better than it initially looks to be.

other notes: only time a bison gives problems is when they achieve knockdown and then it becomes a bit of a guessing game with his crossup-psycho crushers. aggressive chuns do give trouble too. don’t know what to ask about that aside from me getting used to it first. don’t get to play too many of them who do more than poke poke poke. also played a viper recently and that is one of my worst matchups due to only playing about 3 (good ones) of them in the entire team SF4 series has been out.

I was thinking; El Fuerte has a page on the SRK wiki, but the only things there are the category titles and the frame data. I think it’s high time that we compile all our data and collaborate on giving our main a proper Wiki entry. We have all sorts of things like reversal Ultras, matchup data, option selects, okizeme options, and more. I was also looking at some of the other character entries, and things are still rather bare bones. Who ever heard of a bare bones wiki?

Good that you are branching out and exploring other moves, If you want EX Q-bomb its best to stock it during:

Long bouts of turtling (opponent hangs back and fireballs, you hold MK and HK while LK Guacing over fireballs. Balrog in general)

You (or your opponent) land Ultra(/Super) EX Q-bomb does gorgeous chip damage and stun.

Wiki entry is something to be looked at yes. but I still find the Beating Elf / Master Cookbook useful since it will be up to the minute fresh. I’m sure everyone here will likely be more active here instead of a wiki page

Rush punches are easy to simply throw him out of, also try run toward + fajita buster, using the invincibility of the fajita buster startup to go through the punch when you meet up.

Also, for run stop… I feel like the second and sometimes third hit are best done at a fast pace, making you lose ground very slightly, and then the run stops after that can come at a slightly slower pace.

I’ve gotten pretty consistent at doing 5+ RSFs online when I’m warmed up. Last night I was in endless doing 6,7, and even a 10 hit rsf everytime I hit a focus.

hmm. I just wanna encourage all aspiring/new Fuerte players to stick with your character, remember why you chose him in the first place, and keep working hard.

I’ll be the first to admit that he’s not an easy character to win tournaments with, and you need a fair bit of dedication to even get remotely decent, (getting streaks in the arcades for example), but the satisfaction that comes from totally outplaying your opponent makes everything worth it imo.

I first picked up Fuerte in July '09, and took almost 6 months to get competitive with him, and by competitive I mean not going 0-2 in every tournament I entered. I took 3 months to get RSF down (3 hits into slide. I do at least 3/4 every time now, max 10). I improved exponentially after playing in tourneys consistently and practicing, and after going to Japan in March '10, playing with the top players there and coming back to practice some more.

long story short, I took almost a YEAR to be where I’m at with the character right now, and I don’t even think I’ve mastered Fuerte yet. So yeah, stick with the programme. We’ll see Fuerte placing in tournaments soon, real talk.

So long as I keep having fun, I’ll be sticking with Fuerte. It’s a rocky road though, moreso than with any other character I’ve ever mained, but that’s alright. The reward is pretty high when I’m not facepalming at my losses.

Regarding RSF it is the 2nd hit that always trips me up. I seem to do it too soon and lost the space to be able to do the third hit or get too close and lose the hit stun to keep it going. This is the one thing that no amount of crappy quality youtube videos will ever allow me to get right. Meeting another fuerte in person who can RSF well (to receive protips from) is an almost impossible endeavor.

Now with Balrog can your really throw him out of all the Dash punches? The only reason I do not attempt to throw him out of dash punch (outside his wakeup) is because dashing straight and turn punch will stuff me so cleanly. Balrog pulls a Dhalsim and just stretches that arm out keeping him at a good range to not be thrown. Q Bombs stuff those options clean though. Balrogs (I play) only seem to go for Dash Upper with EX bar and Dash Overheads on Wakeup (which are the easiest to snuff). Oddly enough Dash Low (the only one I personally would abuse) doesn’t seem to get much use but you can still toss him out of this one, too.

Fajita Buster I find can only stuff him if I do it further ahead than Tostada. Fajita seems to not have much invincibility on the way up (if any) vs Tostada and is easily stuffed by jabs if they are paying attention or just by crouching as most Balrogs love to do if not rush punching.

I had that issue, and I just kept working on it on my own until I got it down. Sure, I can still only do 3-4, but whatever. Just remember that you don’t have to rush into the second hit like you might tend to, take your time (obviously not that much time, but you get what i mean)
