Lag sucks, with a character like ELF it’s even worse since the slightest lag spike can turn a safe tortilla into you taking big damage or make you mistime hits in RSF and so on. It’s hard to win with him in the first place and lag just magnifies that.
A few things that might help you…
-Against jump-in/sweeper types, space yourself better to where you can either c.hp/guac their jump-ins easily or be out of their hitting range and run back xx tostada/tortilla/jump away on reaction to all of their jumps. This will either teach them not to jump in or give you an easy win.
-Against jump-away+early HP/HK/MK types, let them get themselves into the corner (just walk towards them as they’re jumping away) and then guac/anti-air slide/tostada/tortilla them, keep the pressure on but do it smart, don’t get randomed out.
-Absorb or neutral jump fireballs, walk backward or forward in between to adjust spacing. They want you to jump forward, don’t do it! Recognize their patterns and go from there when planning your attack. When you get the hang of it you can start guacing over them, but let’s start simple.
-Everyone is a DP spammer until they prove otherwise, plan your offense around avoiding/countering DPs. There are several ways to do this.
-Remember that blocked sweeps, DPs and a shit ton of other moves lead to free U2.
-Also remember that Fuerte doesn’t have the tools to punish everything and trying to will get you hurt a lot by DP mashers. A lot of the times the best thing you can do is nothing at all.
@Private Eyeball: Do you play anything less than 5 bars connection? How often do you get 5 bars to begin with? if you have a decent amount of people that you can get a good connection with, try to stick with them for now to get the lag issue out of the way. Trust me I have been there man, losing when lag gets in the game is very frustrating, there is almost no way to punish SRK spammers with lag.
Fuerte relies heavily on timing, so any amount of notable lag would make it a complete nightmare to use him, and you won’t learn much as well. Once you get the lag issue out of the way, then its time to hit the lab and start improving your strategies. As a general rule, make sure your defensive game is good and don’t focus completely on offense. try to study the pattern of the opponent the first few games, don’t think of winning but of learning instead (winning would be icing on the cake in this case :). In case of scrubs, you will soon be able to find out their strategy, and then if you had questions on countering them on specific tactics we can help you out in here some common tactics they like to use is spam DP (just run -> stop to bait, then punish with your best combo that you know, or ultra), some like to jump back a lot (a good way to handle this is to run -> stop followed by EX guac to catch them as they jump. Try to make them jump back till they hit the corner and then you won half the match).
EDIT: looks like mexiwont got to it faster God I love our Fuerte community.
Slide xx U2 works because it’s a throw bait. You have to input the U2 as late as possible.
The theory behind it is to get your opponent to block a safe move, preferably one that leaves you up close to them. Once they block, you force them to crouch tech in order to not get thrown, but of course U2 will stuff their crouch tech clean.
nope because once they release your gonna be in your invincible frames on the way up to your splash, and if they backdash, theyre gonna land on it. I’ve done it on a fei a couple of times so im guessing it works with most of the cast.
Started playin online again after a couple of days break and this is how they treat me lol. I smashed this Guile and this is what he sent me lol.
And when I told him I was black this was his response.
I remember (I think) reading about how you’re supposed to do qcb, u/b + lp + lk +mp for the throw/EX run OS… I don’t know if that’s true or not. I get thrown when I try that. Something about canceling jump startup frames? I don’t know why. Maybe I’m crazy.
Since Super was released, I have been using U2 exclusively, but sometimes I start questioning if I need to use U1 in some cases. Wondering if anyone thinks U1 is notabely better than U2 in any specific matchups?
IMO just the fear instilled by “wow I could get ultra’d if I do… anything” is worth using U2… so much easier to land. Then again there’s punishment situations that only U1 works on. Honda’s headbutt, Blanka ball, blocked point blank EX psycho crusher…
Poor Guile. lol I wrecked one the other day and he kicked me from the lobby. I sent him a message and he replied with a voice message. I didn’t bother listening to it since most of them are too inaudible to decipher.
@Mechanica: what you said is mainly why I always pick U2, to instill that fear but then I start remembering U1’s range in some cases and how it can impact matches I’ve played, and I start having some doubts (maybe I am overthinking this…). I have to say though, the big damage nerf to U1 doesn’t help its case at all.
